Hey, I actually followed some of that! It helps to understand how I should be analyzing songs. A request of mine would be Polka Dots and Moonbeams the John Denver version on KZbin. Primarily interested in the reason how they're able to use the same melody notes for transitioning from one specific key into two other different keys. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this. Know the "Take the A Train" the melody, the changes and the #11, but did not know the A melodic Minor relationship. Will use it!

Nice analysis, thank you. Another Billy Strayhorn song, Lush Life? That's quite involved. He wrote it when he was 18-19 years old I think!

Which version of the real book do you use? I have the sixth edition and i dont have the intro part and D9#11 is replaces with D7b5? Can you explain i comment what is the deal with that cord or is it still from Melodic minor or is simply an altered chord which can be used as a passing chord; just to add tension? Great lessons!

Hi Marc, I'd appreciate your breakdown of On Green Dolphin Street. I'm looking at it just now and wondering if the A section is a modal move (all major chords) from I - bIII - II - bII - I, or if it starts I maj - I min like the book says. I'm not sure what the theory behind either would be, though. Cheers.

Actually, the Ab chord is functional. It’s just hard to see that because it is spelled wrong. Makes much more sense spelled as F# rather than Gb. It’s a beautiful bVIaug6 chord. Borrows from C minor, borrows from C Lydian. Strayhorn knew his harmony!
