Something else you should try. Put a whole chimney of unlit charcoal in the bottom. Put a quarter chimney of hot coal on top. The coals burn a lot slower going down then it does going up. And just put smaller hickory chunks on your burning charcoal. Works great!

UPDATE: use logs about 1/2 the size you see in this video. MAKE SURE THE WOOD IS DRY. use lit charcoal to start the fire. I was a rookie when I did this video.

I just use charcoal to start the fire. I burn wood (cherry and hickory). I was a rookie when I did this video. If you dry your wood properly. It takes half the wood I had to use in that video. Thanks for watching
