Reversed Chrome Wheels and Cheater Slicks - 1932 Ford 5 Window Coupe

While the 1932 5 Window is on the back burner for now, Matt has a few parts lying around that will make the car look so much better. When pulled from the Larry Schroll Estate, the 32 had big bulky truck tires in the front and some old crappy tires in the back. The notes that Larry kept on the car said the car had a set of reversed wheels with cheater slicks in the rear. It just so happens that Matt has a set of reversed 40 ford wheels with crappy chrome and a set of cheater slicks. One of our local friends stopped by with a set of front wheels that matched the fronts perfectly. With a little bit of work and some lube (insert joke) the new stance on the 32 is perfect. Let us know down below your thoughts on the new wheels and tires!!

"Chrome reverse" caught my eye. We were eating lunch where I work and it came up. The younger guys asked what that was. Some of us realized we were driving before mags came out. Seems like ages ago. Not a car guy anymore, but it is fun to look back once and a while.

Carl Sabatka i knew a guy back in the 80s that had a 32 5 window with a 40 dash and column with the shifter flipped to the left and adapted to a 4 speed . When I asked him why he said it was so you could shift without taking your arm from around your girl

My first car (in 1962) was a '51 chevy coupe. The first thing I did to it was remove the column shift and put in a floor shift. Why? Because when I shifted into third it was perfect to rest my hand on my girls knee!

Thanks we aren't going to chop this one. I disagree though on the visor comment on a 32 Ford. Works on a Model A or Model T.. but 32 and later I think is good with no visor personally. Thanks for watching!

Wheels and tires fit the car perfect. If it were my car (I know, you hear that all the time) I believe I would take the spirit of the original build and refine it. You know, use the square roll bar but make sure the welds and design are clean. Same with the rear suspension. Run the same arms but redo the mounting and such. I'm not a big fan of the "Rusty/Patina" look and would probably paint it but more in the backyard garage style. Single stage paint, smooth but not perfect body work. A clean car but not pristine. But then it is your car and not mine. As long as you enjoy the end product is what really matters. I am looking forward to the build.

Achieving just the right level of crappiness is where it's at, Matt. Personally (as you axed) I'd go a touch higher in the back and lose the hubcaps. Love this 32. mart.

Have you seen the book "Cool Cars Square Roll Bars" by Arnie and Bernie Shuman? The subtitle is "Photos and recollections of fifties hot rodding in New England" I have number 2971 of 3200 copies so it might not be available anymore. There are tons of pictures of old hot rods The Fiat that I helped work on as a teenager is in there 8 times. In 1958 it ran an injected Olds engine number 33 A/A. Over the winter the top was chopped and the engine was replaced with a Hemi. It was one of the first Hemi powered Fiat drag cars. It was driven by Jack Doyle who was one of the founders of New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire. It set a class speed record at the 59 winternationals before it blew up the engine. I saw Jack a couple of years ago and asked about the Fiat. He said he sold it long ago and had no idea where it is now. On page 123 there's a picture of the interior with a moon tank next to the seat. The caption was something I remembered from 1959. "There was room for his ass and a gallon of gas" I can loan you my copy if you promise to send it back.

CLR and scotch bright on your 32 coupe. Check it out on hamb! It'll remove the rust stains from your paint. Work wonders on your chrome too!

I was trying to figure out a way to take some of the black primer off the car and bring that beautiful yellowish green back on the car. I’ve hear that or steel wool and clr! Just afraid it might take the green off too! I definitely want to try it when we dig into the car.

Yeah, I guess a fine steel wool would be less aggressive than a scotch bright pad. The results I've seen are impressive.
