Nice! Glad you enjoyed it. My 1st job was at a resort in Wisconsin in the early 1980's and sometimes they would send me on errands in a GMC pickup with a 3-speed transmission. No one really showed me how to drive it! They said "Can you drive a manual?" and I said "yes" because our family car was a VW Bus with "4-On the floor". Took me awhile to figure out the truck only had 3 forward gears and where 1st was!

Great review, Matt. I appreciate your giving us all of the technical specifications of the older cars, so we can remember when they were new. That one you drove is very nicely restored. There's a guy in San Diego, where I live, who has the same car painted pastel blue and cream two-tone. He takes it to shows all over town. Keep up the good work.

Cool review! I enjoyed that. I've driven a base model 1977 F-150 that still had a "3 on the tree" shifter (with the 300 c.i. straight 6 engine) several times. It's really easy to get used to. The shift pattern is the same as it is with a floor shifter... just imagine moving it up to the side of the steering column - with Reverse toward you and up toward the roof, 1st toward you and down toward the floor, 2nd toward the dash and up toward the roof, and 3rd toward the dash and down toward the floor. Like Matt said, it doesn't take long at all to get used to it.

@americanrambler4972 Жыл бұрын
Turning on back roads? Uh, that would be a definite NO! Especially in the rain. There were no freeways when this car was built! Most cars were built to operate in the 45 to 60 mph speeds back then. You had to step up to the bigger more luxurious cars to play in the 70+ mph range for any length of time. And did you catch the part about flat bench seats and no seat belts to hold you in place in the corners? And cornering grip? With bias tires? Very little, and you SLOWED WAY Down for corners. That meant 10 to 15 mph, not 25 to 35 or more. And don’t forget, door latches were not safety latches. On rough roads, they could pop open. (And occasionally did. Especially on bumpy roads in tired beat up older cars.) brake fade was a real thing back then too. You could get one, maybe 2 hard stops from 60 mph. After that, they heated up and went away. As a teenager, I drove cars like this. And I drove them like any idiot teenage does. Hard, fast and often using flawed know it all arrogance and short sided reasoning. Over heating and fading out brakes was not an uncommon event. Neither was banging into things and taking excursions off pavement into things like ditches, fences, trees and other cars. Cars were old at 7 years, and 75,000 miles was considered high mileage.

Hey Matt! I have a chance to buy a bolt on built Legacy GT. 2005. Coil overs, exhaust, intake, tuned, injectors, wheels, tires, about 7K in upgrades. All belts and coolant replaced. It has 160K on stock motor. For $5K cash is it a Good deal?
@Therealspunjbob5 жыл бұрын
Btw it will need head gaskets within the next 5-6K miles
@MattMaranMotoring5 жыл бұрын
5k seems like a good price depending on what condition the exterior and interior are in, accident history, etc. How reliable it will be is another question, depends if it's on the stock turbo and how aggressive the tune is. I guess it depends how much reliability matters to you.

How do you do that lengthy of a review and not talk about the engine? Should have included a look under the hood and at least a few remarks on the Y-block V8. You can't have any serious old car cred without it. Vacuum wipers are old news BTW.
