The only thing I would like, if they go analog clock, they should go all the way and have a mechanical clock at this spot. With the ability to see the cogs and the mechanism turn, and an atomic clock synchro every 24h, so that the time stays precise on the long run. It would also offer a unique marketing occasion, with some cars having Hublot clocks, other having Festina or Rolex, ... and so on. I would love that.

Every car built is a mass of compromises, and Scott describes his opinion of those compromises. I find his reviews some of the best I've seen, and I have gone to drive vehicles he has reviewed, and found him accurate. I now trust his reviews. The goal of buying a car is to get one with the compromises that best suit the buyer. The only car purchased without compromises will be the one built to the design of the owner. I find these reviews excellent, and find fawning reviews less useful. Of course Scott's bias against Automatic Transmissions is admitted, but he drives cars for a living, now, so he doesn't have to worry that his family can't drive a stick ( whether or not that is the case, I don't know). Those of us with families know that any car with a stick will limit the flexibility for a family's uses. But the person who buys the manual tranny accepts that compromise.

12:19 I do wish Scott had more dedicated time to discuss his general outlook on the state of automobiles, but subtle little run-on conversations like this have been sort of enlightening nonetheless. As strange as it is I've been sort of torn between getting a car like this vs, say, a 2015 Accord coupe V6 stick. "They make their stuff easy to repair, they don't make their stuff fun to drive" really sort of sums it up for me. I've had a few Accords and a V6 coupe 6mt would be the most fun of any yet, and probably extremely easy to maintain and work on, but still nowhere near as fun as a RWD 3is... decisions decisions...

Lexus (Toyota) is too conservative about engines. You get turbo inline six in the 3 series. Lexus offers a 2.0 turbo and a NA 3.5 V6. If they had a lineup of turbos, probably get better sales figures.
@boboutelama57485 жыл бұрын
@@Idonteatdog Different projects are about to see the light. At first, an ISF with the 350 double turbo (that was introduced in the LS), is very probably coming. Looks like, the 200T stays in the programm and will still be offered on certain markets. But the 250, that is actually only the base for the hybrid, will probably be fitted with a turbo, making an estimated 290 hp. Then, there is the most controversial, about the B58 Toyota and BMW coop engine, making her debut in this car. It will offer a 380 hp and 600 nm of torque. This is, for the moment, just a mere rumor that I wasn't able to confirm.

Nice review. Have 22k miles on mine now, Pilot Super Sports are much nicer, and the damnnnnnn cupholders!!!!!! My iPhone and keys actually fit in them but the issue really becomes when you have a passenger also using it, my old buddy and I used to carpool to work and our morning starbucks stop made this a constant joking point. Also just fyi, the brakes are Akebono, they really aren't that expensive if you can do the work yourself, most lexus owners will pay the $800 for L to do it for them, but the brake job on this car is only slightly more intense than an oil change and you save a ton of money that way (yes common sense you do your own work you save money). The thing this car really needs to make it "special" is an exhaust note. True mountain roads are the exactly where it shines too, you get that want to let loose on the edge feel without ever having predictability issues... I walked away from a hard day on a 45 min mountain descend with an "why did I think I wanted an m4, if I'm not on a track this car does everything I need/want it to do."

I bought the AWD version of one of these in 2016. It has been my favorite daily driver. I have never owned a more well built car that's so comfortable but not TOO comfortable and it still has just enough power and grip to have a little fun. The seats are fantastic and I'm an average-sized guy who could stand to lose a few pounds. The dash cluster is amazing. The car DOES feel fitted and while the car does feel a bit hefty, it's a more solid feeling than porky feeling. I bought the car specifically because I wanted AWD without having to buy a goddamn CUV, I actually wanted an automatic tranny, and I wanted a car that will make me not hate driving to work and the airport in Chicago and Chicago suburban traffic. Even the stock stereo sounds really good. NVH is the best I've ever had in a car. I can forgive the quirks, though I'm annoyed that I can't easily wire up a dash cam because there's no 12 volt outlet below the HVAC controls. I also wish it had memory seats because whenever I take the car to the dealer for service, it's invariably driven by someone who is 3 feet tall and completely changes my week long quest to find the perfect seating position. I then have to spend another week twisting, cringing, and swearing while I fiddle with the seat controls until the position is just right. I wouldn't mind owning a dedicated sports car for the summer and weekends, like the 2019 Miata, but it would have to be a second car for me. The Lexus is perfect for my daily mission.

How is it in uphill snow situations?
@jonthepilot69245 жыл бұрын
@@RK1FX Honestly, the stock tires are terrible. I don't have many hills where I live, but I haven't had any serious problems getting around in snow even on the lousy stock tires. The worst problems are in stopping and turning. You have to take it easy and plan for long stops. If you take care, it's not nerve wracking at all. This thing would be a champ with snow tires and it would be much better with better all-season tires. The "snow" mode helps by making the throttle less punchy and sensitive. I would say that if you have some steep hills, replace the stock tires and you'll do fine. It's a crime that Lexus put such terrible tires on a $50k MSRP car. BTW, I've owned 3 Subarus and I would say the Lexus AWD system works well. I prefer that it's rear wheel biased.

I am a mad BMW fan. I wanted to buy a new BMW 2 years ago after owning a string of BM's for over 10 years. But I did my research and test drove everything. Unfortunately the BM's 3 & 4 series were one of the first cars crossed off my list. The only good thing about them were the engines. After lots of test driving from VW to Audi to Merc to Chrysler to infinity the Lexus was the best overall with the least issues. In OZ the seats are memory and air conditioned which is a big plus in our climate. I agree with the entire video plus one more gripe. The boot has ancient C hinges. which really intrudes on space. The list of issues with the others cars were considerable longer, like the crap steering in Audi's, the lack of performance in the Merc range (except AMG), VW vanilla appeal and lack of driver engagement. Loved the big Chrysler 300 SRT which was my second choice but quality, inability to corner without mods and the price of trying to keep tyres up to it finally dropped it to second. In OZ also the equivalent speced BM, Merc or Audi were $20 to $30k more expensive than the Lexus.So 2 years on, I still love getting into the fitted AC Red mock-leather seats, listening to the awesome stereo and finding sections of twisty roads, plus the added safety of all the electronic gizmos. Good to see these are starting to filter down to cheaper cars now. Rock solid reliability, excellent after sales service. Sooo much better than BM. A great compromise between a sport saloon and a family sedan. Excellent suspension, good noise suppression, nice engine and gearbox. The steering is OK, not to Porsche or Toyota 86 levels but a dam site better than Audi and Merc and a bit better than BM. Once in sports mode you almost feel part of the car, not completely but better than others sedans on offer at the time of purchase. That said, I have not driven the new C class yet but time stands still for no one.Good video, I would lose the mechanic though. Train him better or get someone with a little more personality for TV.

Hey, I am so pleased to hear your experience esp. as I'm also in Oz. I'm tossing up between this and a BMW 135i and am really torn. I hear you on the reliability and costs of running a BM but I've never had one, only test driven some second hand models and have been seriously impressed by the road handling, they stick like a magnet. But you have owned both. I am just worried that I will get tired of this Lexus and pine for the more hard nosed driver focus of the BM. Love to hear your thoughts.

The reason they made the turn signals the way they did is so that they don't make a noise when they snap back into place following a turn. Most cars see the turn signal stalk stay in position until the turn is complete, and it snaps back, usually with a clicking sound, afterward. In the IS, this sound doesn't happen. Though, it took me a few days to adjust to them as well, but after owning this car for a month now I appreciate it.

Lexus has work to do on the "Luxury-Sport" in some aspects but they make a damn reliable engine and fun as all mess to drive. I highly recommend getting the IS350 or even, if you can find one, a IS300 manual. They are great fun and will not quit on you. On the other-hand, I have 3 series and C-classes come in my shop every day with the same issues after 2-3 years. A few which even required engines being replaced. That is not a fun bill. Never had that with a Lexus, not once. Worst I have ever seen is an alternator fail.

@@vl7582 I think he was doing that to prove a point. The point: the car allows banging off the rev limiter. Many cars, even here in 2021, do not.

Great comment on lexus not providing a manual F sport version. Come on most enthusiast will pay the extra to get the manual, also less weight. I can't imagine an IS 350 Sport with 6 speed manual, or even make the RC 350 F sport manual and follow the supra legacy.

Great review, but you did omit the hp and torque numbers. Funny thing is, you just made me feel so much better about my recent purchase of a 2011 F-Sport for less than $25k that has the same engine but without many of the interior quirks. The older F-Sports have more masculine--performance oriented--black interiors with alcantara midsection in the seats that hold you in place. You do feel like you're in a quality car. My only complaint is that until you open it up it sounds like a Carolla. But it feels tight as hell and loves being pushed. I agree with everyone who suggests Lexus needs to release a new ISF. THAT was a monster. Thanks for the detailed review!

Hold on did he really say that the Brakes, and other tech bits inside the car will be Expensive to repair and maintain?...compared to what a Honda Fit? Clearly these guys don't have experience with the Germans, let's be clear the Germans are not known for reliability or cheap maintenance...the Lexus will outshine the Germans in terms of maintenance, overall cost of ownership etc. Also he acts like...this car didn't beat out the BMW and Audi in almost every head to head comparison, Motor Trend said it themselves as well. Turn signals...dude has never been in a modern car? many many cars use electric signals..most BMWs and even modern Fords have them..Mini Coopers have had them since 2006ish its really not that complicated..a quick tap for flash to pass and a slightly longer tap for the actual turn signal. Time to Ditch Analog Clock...Lexus only introduced Analog clocks with the latest Generation GS350. The Cup holders...have you ever seen the stupid BMW clip on cup holder? He literally said the Door Ones dont work Then put a water bottle in it that fit fine? really..i see how bad it is..it held that water bottle. Also the engine, the 3.5L V6 still puts out the highest amount of TQ of any 3.5L V6 on the market, 277ft-lbs. 306HP is also the highest amount of HP from that size engine as well compared to its competitors. MB's most powerful 3.5L V6 was 306, and so was infiniti's G35 w/306 HP. Obviously there is some kind of MPG/Emissions/efficiency that dictates 306 to be the magic number. I"m glad overall he liked the car..but many of the negative things mentioned don't add up or are not warranted.

Look, Lexus had a failure rate in the first 3 years of 7%, other Japanese brands had in between 11-13% and euro cars had in between 39-44%. And that stands for motorcycles as well. The score comes from honest Joe reviews. I'd rather dump monet in my old car than buy a new one and I've looked really hard for a new car.

Did you watch till the end? His summary was it is best in class. The cup-holder comments were clearly ironic. The shot of the bottle dropping into the door and the long camera shot of the 2 fat center console holders were visual cues to the irony. It's his shtick.

Cassette Walkman he likely didn’t watch till the end because he was ready to throw a pissy fit as soon as Mark said anything negative about the Lexus.

@@DiscoFang Also, I own an IS 350 F Sport and an RCF and his videos were the only fair reviews I've seen. I had to replace the brakes on the IS and it cost about $670.00 so not crazy but not cheap either. But they re essentially 13" 4 piston brakes and that was dealer price. Cheers!

You get use to the turn signals. It's the only brand (Toyota) that you can drive it like you stole it and won't have to worry about reliability. Ask anyone who actually owns one. Anyone interested in this car will love it. The driving experience is beyond expectations

Is it me or this guy extremely hard on this car for whatever reason. Its like they gave you this car and said find everything you dont like about it and make a review. He said maybe a few good things to be honest. These reviewer always give Lexus a harder time then they would give a comparable Audi or BMW car. This is a great sporty car. Looks great and has a nice interior and a reliable strong motor this motor is most likely one of the best engines on the market what other engines ran strong since 2006? Its a perfect motor. The handling is great and can switch back to being comfy and normal Lexus when u want it to be. Win Win. At the end of the day everyone sees the same car different. This was his opinion NOT facts. Understand that you might not agree with him and things he dont like you will like.
@penvon9 жыл бұрын
What they won't do is compare the reliability 5-10 yrs down the road with the likes of a BMW or Mercedes....Funny thing is I can buy a early 2000's model s class for the same price as a Honda Civic.😂😂😂

I agree completely that he seems to be knocking on the car the whole video..and the mechanic as well. He thought it would cost 2K to replace the tires for Gods sake...wtf kind on mechanic is he? Also, if they would take the tires off they would see that the air flow chamber does in fact lead to the brakes and not the tires as he states..just a bunch of assumptions and not enough facts.
@wordsworthian9 жыл бұрын
+penvon That still won't be a fair comparison...due to survival bias - you'd only be reviewing cars that made it that far. There are quite a number of 10 year old BMWs & MBs that no longer have functioning engines.

one if not the best Is 350 f-sport reviews you can get on the net, very detailed with lots of useful& interesting pieces of info that would come so much in handy when buying this car..great job in my point of view. The Is is a welcome alternative over the European staple of bmw 3 series, audi a4& merc c-class coz it breaks away from their design language even though controversial n offers a reliability/solidity you don't see in the competition..the down-side is that it always trails in the power offerings denting it's o-60 time but at least not so far off to make it feel left out in real world driving. Though a big fan of the bmw 335i i personally would take the Is 350 over the bimmer..it feels special n different esp the interior which is''fine& attractive'' not the boring one yu find in the 3-series...list wise for me is first- 1.Lexus Is 350 f-sport 2. Cadillac Ats 3.6 3. BMW 335i
