Volvo is an interesting company. They used to make some awesome cars. I had an 850 sedan years ago and the thing just would not die. It's still running (with another owner) at over 20 years old. Then the Ford buyout came and the quality went downhill, as well as sales. Now Geely owns them and they are going through a revival. It's nice to see some cars get attention besides one just from the big manufacturers. Excellent review.

Great review. I also love how you know it's a luxury car and isn't supposed to be sporty. Many reviewers will ding the car for that and hold it against it. It's supposed to be luxurious, it's not supposed to be an Giulia or M3 where it beats you up and you feel everything on shitty roads. Somebody with a hellaciously long commute will be really able to appreciate this. And Volvo are the industry leaders in safety, another huge factor. This is arguably the safest thing you could be driving on the road today.

At last a voice of reason! I have probably watched nearly every English speaking review on KZbin of the latest range of Volvo cars and can say with some confidence that savage geese outclasses the competition. How refreshing it is to find these reviews free from journalistic cliches or superficial banalities. Amongst the reviewers many pertinent comments, he accurately points out that manufacturers have become obsessed with new touch screen technology with at a cost to practicality and safety. I too on several occasions in my Volvo S90 have almost veered off the road trying to change a simple control on the Sensus! It is ironic that Volvo who have built their reputation on safety with their aim that "no one will die in our cars," could potentially undermine that statement if their customers end up crashing their beautifully designed and safety conscious cars just because they dared to use the touchscreen.

One thing I love is Volvo didn't try to follow BMW to create a sport-luxury compromise. Cadillac tried...and well, look at their sales outside of the Escalade. The fact of the matter is, most executive sedans of this caliber is usually used as commuting cars. So Volvo spent the effort in what matters; comfort, serene environment and safety. At the price Volvo is asking it is almost a steal over a E300 or 530i.

I have a v90 and I must say the car is fantastic in every aspect. My biggest issue is that the huge screen get's smudged easily. When the screen is lit it doesn't show enough to bother you really but once it's off it can look really filthy. Of course it depends on how much you mess with the screen. Excellent review, well balanced and fair in my view; it has made my mind up, I will be buying one and although I love the creamy interior, after seeing this, 'common sense' will prevail and a boring black will be my chosen colour - now I just have to choose the right engine option, as well as finding a decent 'used' model. Here in the UK a 2017 S90 can be had for £16k - now that's a bargain.

Dont have to necessarily target 'college students' but I mean a budget of 10k-15k... also I drive 50-100 miles a day (school is 50 miles a round trip a day and the bf is in the opposite direction 50 miles round trip). For example, I was looking into 528xi and the 535. I wish you had a video telling me that the 535 has HPFP problems and the best bet is to go with the 528! The B&W stereo system was the best system I had ever heard in anything. Coming from a Lexus GS with Mark Levinson, that's high praise. savageness - I just discovered your (excellent) channel a few weeks ago...as an owner of a 2018 S90 and considering upgrading to a new 2020 S90 - with the R-Design package finally available, my ONLY hesitation about this car is the T6 power plant...this coming from my experience WITH the Polestar tune. I'm surprised you like the engine so much. I agree that the power is sufficient, but my issue isn't only the terrible sound (which you acknowledge), but rather that the power delivery is SO "surgy" in my experience. I think I could forgive it if it was delivered in a linear, butter smooth fashion, but it isn't...dipping into the pedal, even holding it at a fixed position, results in mild, but noticeable pulsating power. It's very disconcerting to me and just soils what is otherwise a phenomal package. This is a great car in search of a better engine.

In the old days, they said it might be possible to kill a Mercedes, but it is impossible to kill a Volvo.

Good review, as for the light interior, well the answer is simple, CLEAN IT, I have a V70 with the same colour interior, I have no issues with it, wipes clean very easily, if you don't want to see dirt get one with a dark brown interior and exterior, avoid white or even black, because contrary to what some may think, a black exterior will show every spot of dirt !! also remember that no colour interior will stop dirt from collecting, just that some hide it better than others !! but if you are happy sitting on a seat hiding a covering of dirt then that's fine.
