I review the very impressive 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring with the 10-speed automatic. Huge thanks to Honda for providing this car! What do you guys think of the new Accord?

I have the 2018 Accord EXL 2.0 and two years in I can say this has easily been my favorite car in so many ways. No need to list everything since Matt did a great job as usual. Sufficed to say, everything Matt mentioned holds true. Super fun, verging on luxury fit-n-finish, power when you need it, lots of room, etc. I drove my family (wife, two teens) down to Disney (15 hours) and not one complaint from anyone. Color me satisfied.

I recently purchased the 2018 Accord 2.0 EX-L Modern Steel and I can say without reservation, I have never enjoyed a car so much. Everything Matt mentioned is right on point. The look is of course subjective, but I think it looks incredible. The chrome IMHO looks best on the Modern Steel somehow which measured into my decision to buy. The fit & finish in the cabin is outstanding. The power of the 2.0 turbo makes you completely forget about the V6. That was a major purchase point. I was initially bummed that the V6 was gone, but that disappointment evaporated during a test drive. Overall what you’re getting for that price point makes for an incredible, gratifying, enjoyable vehicle to own. Makes me smile every time I drive. Excellent, accurate video Matt! 🤙🏼

So many people complaining about Honda chopping the v6 and coupe, but where were y’all when they needed those versions to sell? The reason Honda got rid of the v6 and coupe is that they did Not sell at all. Most sales of the accord 2013-2017 were Lx, Sport and Ex.

Khafre Bevins I used to sell Honda’s for a few years right after college and everyone used to say if only they made a V6 Accord with a manual I’d buy one, then in 2003 Honda finally offered the V6 with a manual and it was crickets ....literally the worst selling car we had and at the end of the year we had a bunch of them sitting around while we had no other models remaining. I completely get what you are talking about

The v6 was great . The 2.0 turbo is every bit as good. The grumbling about unreliability of the turbo motor is nonsesense.My buddy did have to replace a turbo on his SHO at 150 k and cost him 850 dollers. I would not have a promblem with that on my accord if this happens. Worth it for the performance and tune ability.Could if replaced it his self for under 500 dollers.

Yes that dang 32 ford just not as nice as the model t I had. I would say morons but that would be harsh. The 2018 accord is much better car all around than the 2017. I. Had both. This is such a better value than an entry level luxury car. Back in 2013 I had a Taurus rental and it was larger, had a more supple ride, better interior materials, more amenities and more power than my friends C300 and it cost nearly 10k less. Entry level fwd “luxury” cars like the a3 and cla really are little more than economy cars in league with a civic touring or Mazda 3.

I had the same car! A 2013 taurus in the highest trim felt like pure luxury to me. Maybe I don't know any better? I don't know. But it felt amazing. So to me, I would much rather buy a regular car with a high trim than a luxury car where I'm mostly paying for the name

People complaining about this car having less power than the V6, or that it's not sporty enough are forgetting a crucial thing... Remember the Focus ST? A car renowned for its hot hatch performance and almost universally loved by car journalists? This car has nearly IDENTICAL horsepower and torque, and weighs about the same as that car as well. It also has a pretty bangin' 10-speed Auto that allows it to post faster acceleration numbers than the Focus ST ever did. In addition, it's less prone to heat soak than the Focus ST was (an intercooler was literally the first mod I got for mine because it heat soaked so quickly). It doesn't handle quite as well, but a $250 rear sway bar and a set of Firehawk Indy 500 tires would fix that right up. All this, with Honda reliability and a near-endless aftermarket? Sign me up! This is going to be my next car.

Great review of a car that is so controversial. I have a 2012 V6 coupe which is hopelessly out of date tech-wise, but I really enjoy the power and smoothness of the engine. I am not too interested in this model due to my belief that Honda is forgetting some of its "fringe" customers. I hope they decide to put a coupe back on the road, at the very least.

Is your coupe a 6 speed? I think the 2003-2017 Honda Accord V6 6MT coupes were thoroughly overlooked. They're very fun to row. 200,000 miles later my '04 V6 6MT still gets redlined several times every week, and it's happy to do so. RIP to the honda naturally aspirated V6 (in the accord). I really might try to snag a late V6 6MT coupe before they start going away or getting molested.

Trevon, was the 3.5L in the 10 noticeably faster, or better, than the 3.0L in the 04? I've wondered if the bigger V6 was worth the assumed increase in weight. My 04 feels like a bit of a boat to me. Fun in a straight line, but even with the double wishbone suspension, it's just not built to corner. Which I imagine gets worse in the later generations.

Like the front, still not feeling the rear styling, although its been growing on me. My other minor gripe is that the rear turn signals are not L.E.D. The front turn signals are, and they look great. I don't know why Honda did not do the same for the rear, especially since the CRV has rear L.E.D turn signals, and that's a "lower" model.

2.-1/2 years with my 2018 Accord 2.0. Matt is bang on with the sporty handling with the adaptive shocks. The difference is night and day with sport mode on and off. I believe Honda uses torque vectoring with the brakes to counteract understeer and to help the car turn. Steering is quicker too with sport mode and turn-in is fantastic. Summary: Very fun car still with all the practicality of an Accord. The cons are very minor (speakers are meh, can't customize the driving modes like my Golf-R, and could use a bit more sound insulation). Fantastic road car, especially with the lane keep (which is much better than most systems) and radar cruise for freeway slogs.

The main usage I have for the wireless charging pad is it allows me to keep the phone from using any battery while it’s hooked up to BT and WiFi, without needing to actually plug it in. Hey Matt, What would be your pick between this Honda featured or the 2019 Toyota Camry XSE V6? I'm shopping for daily driver type car so outright performance is not the most important thing to me. Comfort, quality, reliability, fuel efficiency, etc. I believe the Camry V6 uses just regular gas and get the 301 hp, but I think the Acoord needs premium for full hp, but I'm sure regular can be used with slightly reduced performance. Maybe I'm wrong with the fuel for the Accord 2.0T. Thanks.

Sam Lung same shit can be said about looks then. What exactly are you trying to compare here? What are you looking for in a family sedan? More rear leg room for the family? Then take the Accord. Hey Matt, how was cabin noise level? In the past, Honda’s have been known to have higher cabin noise levels Vs competition so was curious about your thoughts on that. I guess tire choice can also impact that as well. Thanks, great video as usual!

Thanks! Noise level was pretty good, since I still haven't reviewed the new Camry or Mazda 6 yet it's hard to compare but the noise levels seemed appropriate for the car and price.

Tire and road noise are excessive for sure. The only really negative to me on my sport trim. But is a big enough to me I plan to trade soon. Should of done a test drive on the freeway. My wife hates the noise worse than I do. Not sure why it’s not mentioned more.

I have this very car, except 2019 year,color and interior color. I love it, very quick car for a sedan, more fun actually than my v6 camaro was to drive. More torque faster. Honestly not a fan of the 11th gen accords. Front and back look OK, but no foglights and they made the car bigger and heavier. Also they dropped the 2.0t which to me is a bad move. My only complaint about my car is no rear seat charging ports, but they did add those on 2021 and newer models. The accord only has a heated steering wheel in canada. Also i dislike the cooled seats, they dont work very well as you say. You have to turn them up all the way and blast the floor ac vents to feel a difference. They help cool the seats down some in the heat though. But other brands do cooled seats way better,specially gm. Better cooled seats,rear ports and a heated steering wheel and this would be the perfect car. The only thing i like better on the 11th gen is the larger 12.3 inch screen and wireless carplay and android auto. But the tenth gen is just way sportier and better looking.i have heard the seats on the new one are softer and more comfortable too. But i still prefer the faster,lighter sportier tenth gen. A much more fun car to drive. If I wanted boring I would buy a crossover suv.

Ok, just found what I consider a dealbreaker of the new Accord. Turning diameter is more suited to a land yacht. 38.1' for 1.5T and hybrids and a whopping 39.4' for 2.0T models. Kind of unacceptably large if you ask me.

Ryan Littleton I'm in the market for a new car and I've always been a Honda Accord guy but they lost me with the removal of the V6. The new motor doesn't save you any gas and by the sound of things it's not a detuned type R it's more of a Leftist "Feel Good" move. You can't have power and gas mileage in one engine. My V6 Coupe weighs less than the new 4 door only accord the new accord may have 10 HP more than my car but the weight makes it equal but with less get up and go when you really need it. The new 2 liter 4 cylinder will be screaming to make up for the lost cylinders and won't get good MPG. I'm thinking a Cadillac ATS V6 AWD or the Lincoln MKZ V6 3.7L AWD. I considered the Acura AWD V6 but with it's 9 speed transmission 1 less than the accord is a bit to many
@ryanlittleton5615
@ryanlittleton5615 6 жыл бұрын
Christopher Berg Very well writen response I must say BTW. I still prefer an NA V6 myself, but only if done right I can like a smaller displacement engine. I was very sceptical of the 2.0T until I drove one, and I can assure you that it's more than enough of a replacement to the V6, in fact even better because not only does this engine have much more low end torque compared to the V6 but it will also still pull all the way to it's redline. So I promise you this engine won't have to "scream" to make up for lost cylinders. And for what it's worth, it IS technically a de-tuned Type-R engine it's a K20C engine, so Honda isn't lying. But yeah on paper this engine isn't any more efficient than the outgoing V6 which is a little disappointing, but keep in mind that engine had VCM and also the 2.0T is still very efficient. You can exceed EPA ratings when only on the highway at a constant speed. So moral of my story is I would not worry about it at all, this engine definitely adds up to more than the sum of its parts.

-- When you were taking the turns, near the 14 minute mark, you pressed on the brakes. That was not necessary (as long as the tires are warmed up). That car will handle much better than most folks expect. I realize that you did not want to take any unnecessary risks. But folks considering this car should know that you were nowhere near its handling limit. Yes, as the host mentioned, the car does feel nose heavy (it probably is). But the suspension and tires are designed to accommodate the heavy nose. Short of driving like a nut, the car will hold the turn at impressive speeds. -- When demonstrating the acceleration, please show the road (not your face). Or, show both, or have one shot with your face and a different shot with the road. It is hard to appreciate what you are seeing, if we cannot see what you are seeing. We cannot appreciate the car's power, if we cannot see the road. -- The 1.5 versions come with Goodyear tires. The 2.0 versions come with Michelin tires. For normal, typical driving, you will not notice any difference in handling. But if you really want the best handling, then the Michelin tires are better. When pushing the car around a turn, at speed, the Goodyear tires will not behave as well as the Michelin tires. Keep in mind that you would have to be pushing hard to bring out the difference. If you want even better handling, then you will have to remove the "All Season" tires that come from the factory, and research which summer / performance tires will offer better grip (the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S seem like a good choice). But you will have less traction in the snow, and the tires will wear out approximately 1/3 sooner (but they will be a blast while they last). Cheers!
