I own the Lariat Hybrid and prior to using my ac daily I was averaging 39 to 40 hwy for 85 mile's round trip commute. Using the heater had no effect on mpg. Now that it is hot and I have the ac cranked 73 degrees, fan speed max, it did ding the mpg to 38.6 which still beats EPA and I have never dropped below 37. I have tried by driving 90 mph every chance I got for an entire week. I haven't noticed a power loss while passing or during acceleration with the ac on. In town or cruising back roads I easily hit over 65 mpg nearly full electric most of the time. My truck has 8200 miles now and I love it, It's a bargain and I prefer the baby F150 looks to the other offerings. Overall I'm very pleased with this trucklette and look forward to a Full electric version. It draws a lot of attention, with random people approaching me everywhere. People really do like the size of this truck and I think Ford has a winner here!

Nice all around review. My youngest brother loves his XLT with the 2.0 Turbo FX4, even though it didn’t have the tow package that he wanted. He gets between 25-30 mpg on mainly curvy country roads with a little city and highway 🛣 I wish that they made an AWD hybrid. Even if the mpg went to 35 with the weight of the system. I just checked CarGurus and many places want 35k for an XL FWD right now. So I am going to wait for the next generation Colorado and Canyon or until the price goes back to normal

I've driven a front wheel drive civic in the great white north for 23 years! I am sure a front wheel drive maverick, with all that extra ground clearance and winter tires will be just fine for anybody, even in a snowy climate.

I bought a AWD, XLT Lux Pkg, 4K 360, Hot Pepper, Floor Liners, for just a tad under 30K. I think that is the best value out there. Has more equipment than the Lariat unless they include the Lariat Lux Pkg. Then it gets expensive.

@@ian2372 Bro, the hybrid powertrain in this literally has a reputation for lasting 300, 400, 500k+ in escape taxis dating back to the late 2000s. It's the kind of powertrain where everyone who has one says, oh yeah, our car has 250k on it and is still running great. The 2.0 is also quite durable, but probably won't last as long as the hybrid. They did something like 16 million miles of durability testing with this platform, I don't think longevity will be an issue.

@@ian2372 With all do respect, with that logic, Toyotas, Ford's, Honda's, kias/Hyundais, Subarus etc, would all be terribly unreliable, because at the end of the day, they're almost all cheaper cars. This is more expensive than a Corolla or a civic by a small amount, so it should be more reliable if we're using price to predict reliability. We all know how unreliable a lot of European luxury cars are, and many of those things are quite expensive. Some of the most expensive cars my family has owned have been the least reliable, and vice versa.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. But every now and then, a company just makes a good product, seems like that's the case here.

Yes love my Mav XL 2.0 AWD but should have kept my tire as stock size as possible. Was getting 25mpg on stock 225 65 17 but bump up the size and type of tire to AT tire with 245 65 17 and MPG dropped down to 19 to 20. Is not worth an upgrading to wider AT tires. My 2021 silverado LM2 gets 24mpg avg even with heavy footing. If you want the max mpg? Keep it stock size.

I've seen the recalls which are concerning from an overall quality standpoint. The fuel tank issue in the recall at least is from the spray-in bedliner installation. Do you have a source for the hybrid system issue problems I can read about?

I sat in both a new Santa Cruz and a Maverick recently, and I 100% agree with your assessment. For ~$36k, I'd take the SEL Premium Santa Cruz all day. But the base hybrid Maverick blows the competition away. I honestly think Hyundai is losing sales by not putting the Tucson's hybrid or PHEV setup in the Santa Cruz.

They will, the electric portion of the Maverick hybrid actually has a bunch of new features to include new electric motors with new wind designs for more power and efficiency. It's going to take more R&D and testing to bring an AWD version of the hybrid to market but I'm willing to bet it will be available as early as 2024.

It's a parts bin vehicle, which is a good thing for value and reliability. It also means that some things won't fit the dimensions. Ford decided making AWD parts for the hybrid held less value than AWD on the Ecoboost. They were right. I guarantee the hybrid will get it very soon. It's not that they won't make them, they just wanted to get a few models out the door a bit quicker.

Orders open up in July. If you want one, make sure your local dealer is ready for you because there will be others. Be clear with the dealer that you are buying one at MSRP either from them or (name a dealership nearby) so who's is going to be if they push back with a "market adjustment."

The one the Maverick rolls up above the bed, while the Hyundai rolls up inside of of the bed. Also the housing of the roll up takes up space inside if the bed ewen either rolled up or covering the bed. The tri fold is very easily removed if need be.

@@whiteandnerdytuba I added factory cruise control to my XL for about $100. Two new Ford switches from an XLT, an OBD cable and a 10 dollar subscription to Forscan. This truck is a waste of money beyond the XL trim, really cheap paint on all trims, really cheap interior panels on all trims, cheap everything. The value XL version is the only winner for the Maverick otherwise you may as well buy a more superior Santa Cruz or Ridgeline. Also, I added a power locking tailgate for another $100 by purchasing the lock actuator and harness from Ford so for way less than an XLT I got the important features I wanted.

Pretty sure Honda has a patent on it and Hyundai pays a royalty to Honda. Ford was all about hitting a certain price point so you'd have to factor in the production cost and complexity of adding the trunk PLUS the royalty to use Honda's patent.

Most ppl will get mid trim XLT with ad ons like fx4, 4 k tow, moon roof, copilot 360, which brings it to $40k before tax in Canada. I wouldn’t call it cheap by any means but I guess car prices have climbed since I purchased my Toyota Scion xB that cost $20k in it’s time.

The unibody turns off truck buyers. The people buying these are the city dwellers that will not be hauling, towing, offroading in extended periods. There are better options out there. And lets face it, people that buy F-150s and Tacomas (both segment leaders) do so because they are real trucks that can handle the duty of real trucks without worrying about a frame thats gonna warp from that kind of duty.
