Very true. Except my 87 Ranger this past summer got used and abused doing truck duties...luckily the load of gravel I hauled was 4 miles across town, poor little truck didn't like the 4,000lbs behind it, but it did it and wouldn't recommend it at high speeds...the trip home I just drove the back roads so I was between 20 and 30 miles per hour the whole way home anyways...anything faster than that no thanks.

So they claim on paper. All that papers is how strong it runs when the rubber meets the road. v8 engines were grossly underrated on paper from 1973 until recent years. Yeah, these newer turbo 4's are stronger than older, similar displacement motors, but they don't feel like they have the horses claimed on paper, particularly the torque.

15 second quarter at 85/0-60 in 9 seconds was the kind of performance a 5 liter Caprice or Grand Marquis gave 30 years ago, with 25 mpg highway, with a pillow soft ride, and would still be running great 150K miles later.

Looking forward to this. We will always have a truck and a car/SUV between my wife and myself, but I never thought I would be getting a truck that would be SMALLER than the SUV. We just sold my 2016 F150 and bought a 2013 Expedition for my wife (she needed a bigger vehicle for a new baby coming in July), and I needed a more budget-friendly replacement, but I wanted a truck. The problem is that all used trucks, one way or another, were just too expensive. Low mileage trucks were too expensive even on a longer loan term, and every time I would go down on price, the age and mileage would get higher, and once I reached a price I could afford on a longer loan term, the vehicle would be too old or have too many miles to be able to get a longer loan term. Then I found this, and realized I could afford to get everything I needed out of this for a reasonable price AND a longer loan term, and for things like towing, I have the Expy that can handle the larger loads. Ordered the FWD Eco XLT a week ago and have a build date of 3/7. Hopefully will get it by the end of March.

I wouldn't touch an early hybrid either, but Ford seems to have figured out how to build an affordable hybrid that seems to be pretty well rated. Might have to try one when my current ride gives up the ghost. By then they might have an AWD hybrid combo. Ford's engineers have said there is no technical reason why it isn't already offered. They are probably gauging demand, knowing full well that the demand for the versions already offered greatly exceeds supply, and if either demand drops or manufacturing capacity increases in the next 2 or 3 years, they can bring in the AWD hybrid and pull in more reluctant buyers like me for another boost in sales.

If the demand is there ford has said they are open to adding it and other engines like the 1.5T inline 3 cylinder but they wanted to make sure that it’s affordable at launch and that buyers would much prefer the cheap base price and high fuel economy. After the horrible bronco and explorer launches I can see why ford wants to play it safe and only add once demand is there

There’s also a hybrid engine as well as a plug-in hybrid option for the current Escape, but unfortunately you can’t get the plug-in hybrid with AWD. I believe Ford wants to see if they can get more torque out of that engine and look at its long term reliability before they put it in an AWD pickup.

I reserved a hybrid Maverick XLT, XLT Luxury package, and Co-Pilot 360 in Velocity Blue in July, and ordered in on 15 October from the local Ford dealer. Interest is very high partially because of part shortages and supply link issues related to Covid 19 but it’s like 1964 all over again! I know. If seems there are a lot of comments like, it's not a manual, the bed is too small, it should come with a standard cab, and the all time biggie, the Maverick hybrid doesn't come in AWD. Instead of griping I wish they would go out and get a different truck. The Maverick is designed for people like me that currently drive a front wheel drive sedan. I would say they nailed the target market.

Love the concept of this truck. I believe ford nailed this vehicle outright. The exterior styling is the only issue to me. They should have went with a more aggressive design though. But ford does have thousand of orders for this vehicle already, so it is a home run for them so far.

I have one on order and the one thing on the exterior I’m still trying to figure out is the headlights, because the top is completely useless on XL/XLT. So the headlight is just really big and obvious. Been mulling over ways to try and address it but I don’t think it’s gonna be cheap.

I had a Ranger once, every time I went to do something or tried to haul something there wasn’t enough space. Went back to an F150 and never thought about midsize for a pickup again.

Yeah, honestly, I don't see this winning over many F-150 buyers. At best, this could be a more direct alternative to the Ridgeline.

Ford makes a lot of profit on thier F-150s and they don't want you buying the Maverick. I expect the majority of the Maverick buyers don't currently own a pickup.

@@Chris_Troxler What I was saying is that ford doesn't want their F-150 customers to start buying the Maverick instead of the F-150. Ford makes a lot of money with the F-150 and they don't want to loose that. The purpose of the Maverick is to take market share away from their competitors.
