I spend a day with the 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line to see what this electric 3 row SUV is like to drive and use. With slightly more space than even a Telluride, a very premium feel, plus the great bones of Kia's e-GMP platform with some of the fastest charging in the industry and up to 304 miles of range, the EV9 is poised to be not only the first mainstream 3-row EV, but also the benchmark for this new segment. What do you think about the EV9? Huge thanks to Kia for the opportunity!

Looks like another hit for Kia! I would love to see a video profile of the Hyundai Group to learn about their culture and basic ethos that enables each of the three divisions to be so prolific and productive in rapidly bringing out new autos that are so well executed. Do you have any thought on those Hankook Ion Evo AS tires? I've seen them mentioned as decent aftermarket EV tires.
@MattMaranMotoring
@MattMaranMotoring 4 ай бұрын
In my day of driving the tires were quiet but had pretty good grip once the roads got twisty. I'd love to learn more about how Hyundai Group is able to be so far ahead of everyone else and also how Kia managed to get this out probably a year before Hyundai did.

This is a great combo of design and features and charging performance. A lightly used loaded GT line in a year will be 55k and a great buy

Great review, Matt! I'm glad you kept it just under 30mins unlike the other EV9 reviewers. This is hands down the best 3-row electric SUV you can buy for the price. I think this is going to sell as well as the Telluride even though it costs more, esp. here in California. Also, where along the California coast did you do that media drive? The area looks beautiful!

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! The coastal shots were filmed on Highway 1 north of San Francisco. The intro shots were filmed at Nick's Cove, great restaurant if you're ever in the area!

@@MattMaranMotoring Ahh...no wonder the roads looked familiar. Highway 1 is stunning. And I saw from Driven w/ Tom Voelk's review you guys did the press launch in Napa. I have not been to Nick's Cove, but I see it's just north of Point Reyes. I'll bookmark that spot to visit next time I drive up that area for a weekend day trip.

Pretty surprising to see EVs finally start to go big. Not surprised that it’s Kia or Hyundai going in on this. The custom lights are pretty cool but I hope they don’t go too far down the path of DLC. Also those wheels are everything.

What’s with the mash cloth head rest instead of the seating material being used.. must’ve been another cost savings cuz that’s gonna get odors over time.

That looks nice and if an EV was the best fit for me that would be high on the list. What would be perfect for me is a plug-in hybrid this size with this space. Mazda has the CX-90 plug-in but it has a small cargo area and third row by class standards which makes it a no-go for my needs. I do too many long road trips into rural areas with limited charging infrastructure for our main family car to be an EV yet.

If you're able to spend luxury SUV prices, the Lexus TX 550h+ sounds like it would be a good fit for you. Best in class space and a plug-in hybrid.

Lots of physical buttons. This is exactly what the average American family wants. Not sure how it will perform sales-wise, since the recent arctic outflow revealed the biggest flaw with EVs. Leasing it as a 2nd vehicle for the family would make sense.

Looks like Kia did a nice job with this. My biggest problem with EVs is that their rising prevalence is more related to government regulation than it is actual customer demand.
@tonyn3227
@tonyn3227 4 ай бұрын
Tesla has no demand problem. They are building another factory in Mexico. You think elon would spend billions if no one wanted evs
@benkromminga5739
@benkromminga5739 4 ай бұрын
@@tonyn3227 I guess my point isn't that there's no zero demand for EVs but rather that the development of EVs seems to be outstripping the demand as a result of government regulation. It's not entirely uncommon to see a hot new EV (think F-150 Lightning, for example) hit the market with crazy demand only to quickly taper off within a year or two. I know that can be common for any new vehicle but it seems to happen more often to EVs.

@benkromminga5739 people should have a choice, you want ev or ice , your choice, I prefer ev tesla anytime over any ice. Mostly negative things about evs is propaganda. Rich oils companies trying to slow down ev adoption.

Surprised they didn't make it 200lbs heavier so "buisness people" could fully depreciate it the first year... Maybe the higher trim levels?
@MattMaranMotoring
@MattMaranMotoring 4 ай бұрын
That deduction is based on GVWR, not curb weight. These all easily clear the 6k GVWR threshold, this GT-Line is over 7,000 for the GVWR, so those "business people" may try that scheme with these lol.

Once they start producing this in the U. S. and the factory is up and running for the 7500 tax break it’s will be a consideration. There are other levels just under this top of the line version that would be more cost efficient and that 7500 would help along with stealerships not adding mark ups to the pricing.
