Traded in my Tesla 2017 MX 100D for the Kia EV9 GT Line two weeks ago (Kia gave me $5,500 more for trade vs what Tesla offered). New MX six seater would have been $26K more vs what I paid for EV9. After driving for two weeks, I'm very happy with my decision. I feel the EV9 GT is much quieter at all speeds, more comfortable (captain chairs are amazing, even second row passengers raved about the seat comfort), many more features, HA2 works great (does nothing wrong vs what I was experiencing for 6+ years with Tesla autopilot FSD), build quality inside and out is amazing for the price, and Ocean Blue exterior with Brown/Black interior makes for a stunning vehicle. I have already received many praises from curious onlookers. I think Kia is going to have a major hit with this vehicle. I know this vehicle made me a first time Kia customer.

Honestly, the EV9 looks so much better than the Mx. the falcon doors are Gimmicky. The look of the Kia is great. Love that theirs more competition for the EV suv market

The average range I was getting in MX freeway driving at 75mph on Autopilot was about 240 miles. Keep in mind that I have only had the EV9 GT for two weeks. I would say average should be about the same or maybe 250 - 260, again at 75mph using HA2. I would rate them the same in real world driving. I never got close to the Tesla range claims and my other vehicle, 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 has been getting over 300 miles over the last 14-months when it is rated at 282 miles.

Just adding: I went back to my Kia dealer a few days ago to pickup a cargo mat and cargo cover I ordered. While there I noticed they had four EV9s with five people looking at them, three of the four were driving Teslas. The EV9 is definitely getting attention from the buying public.

23:50 I totally agree with that! Every 3 row suv should give you the option of how you want to spec the 2nd row. Nearly every one forces captain chairs on the top trims. As if they think captain chairs equals premium. Not everyone wants that though. Many people want/need the bench for people space but also want the top trim.
@Dqtube

It depends on the market. In Europe, the six-seat interior is only an option for the top trim, and we also don't have any version with a small battery.

almost like the more money one has fewer children they have and a smaller family unit - that is my only guess why they make captain chairs only option for top trims in so many brands of vehicles including minivans!

@@KentBuchla But it’s not an edge case to want/need a bench seat in a three row vehicle. I have two kids, if they invite a friend each from school that’s 5 of my 6 seats taken up including me. In-laws coming for the weekend? Half the seats gone. Paying $20-$30k for effectively ONE extra seat and a bit of extra boot space over a sedan is asinine.

Totally agree that they should support the bench seat or captain's chairs in the middle row in all trims. And if they're really listening, it'd be great to spec the heat pump in the lower trims as well (even if we have to pay extra). Those of us in colder climates who want to maximize space and range, getting the Light Long Range with a bench seat and heat pump would be perfect!

The standard spec differences between the US and the UK are bizarre. For starters you get 7 seat as standard on all specs and can only get 6 seat as an option on the top spec (there are only 3 specs and you can only get the big battery). The 6 seats don’t have the recliner function in the second row but they do rotate. You don’t get the lights in the bumper on any spec but you do get ambient lighting and motorised folding / raising 3rd row on every spec. You get more colours on the bottom spec. There is less difference bottom to top spec, In fact apart from design the key differences are heads up display and sunroofs on the top spec only and RWD on the bottom.

You have to have an active bluelink subscription to get the percentage of SOC remaining at the end of trip. Also, of the HDA icons, the one on the right side that looks like lane markings is the indicator for the auto lane changing system. When it’s green, it’s on and able to lane change automatically.

RWD with snow tires is much better than AWD without. I've run a RWD ID.4 in Upstate NY with no issues, AWD really isn't worth the money for most people that stay home when it snows anyways. A RWD EV9 is on our radar as an around-town hauler in the next year. With winter tires it should be a beast all year round.

@louissarok 4 ай бұрын
@@dougholmes6631 He's saying RWD with SNOW TIRES is better in the snow. And he's right. AWD helps you accelerate in poor traction conditions, but does nothing for braking or turning. Snow / Winter tires, with their special compounds, retain suppleness in the cold and the sipes and tread block design give them grip on ice and in snow. Even a RWD car is transformed by them.

The Light Long Range doesn't have a heat pump so some of the efficiency you gain from rear wheel drive only and lighter weight goes out the window in cold temps. The Kia system has a nice breakout of how much energy has been used for what (drive, climate, battery heating, electronics). Would have been interesting to know what %age of energy had gone into heating the cabin. Would assume something in the range of 15-20% (with a heat pump that would have been 3-5%)

Until the end when it went the other way. So: 1. Why can't the algo figure out after a while how many miles is actually driven per percent on this drive and adjust? 2. It is said all over the internet that the korean cars have non-linear soc scales, dropping fast at the end. Here it was the opposite.

Kia do not cease to disappoint lately, they were on the up, and then questionable region managers tactics, dealership shaky tactics and quality problems and then this which look nothing like the concept pictures or even auto shows model(less nicer then concept pics) everyone was excited about. But damm this final product is nothing like them and way more ugly.

Sigh, another family EV with not enough range. Most families I see that want an EV are buying a smaller cheaper vehicle for around town driving and then keeping the ICE 3 row vehicle for the long trips. Take that 280 miles and real world road tripping you are charging from 10%-15% to 80%-90%. That means you will only get about 196 (70%) to 224 (80%) miles or range. Throw kids, electronics, luggage and lots of climate and I am betting barely 200 miles on the highway. Not even 3 hours. These manufacturers got to figure out the range problem.

R1s with max pack battery can probably get 400 range, but that will cost over 100k? I have a r1t and ix, for road trip I get minivan from enterprise😂

Kia should contact you, the genius expert on EVs, so they can accurately publish the range of EV9. 🙄

I used to do 10 hours south of England to middle of Scotland non stop or one stop, to see my daughter. Now I stop twice and the car charges pretty quick. My wife much prefers this!

News flash… most kids get restless or have to use the bathroom long before 200 miles or 3 hours, and they take forever to take to the bathroom and eat too, so you get more than enough time to charge. My car is only rated for 272 miles, but on the first leg of the journey, starting from 100%, I have literally never made it down to 10% because my kids always need to stop before then.

@@GraysonCarrexactly! Who drives over three hours non stop?!? No one sane. And if you have kids, forget about it. There is no range problem. Once we have infrastructure…..

I'm not a fan of 100% to zero (or beyond) range tests. People should not drain the batteries like that, and you ask for trouble arriving at a charging station at zero SOC. Most people don't want to go below 10%. Range tests should be 100-10%. Also remember that these guys do their testing at 5000+ feet above sea level. The air is noticeably thinner.

How do you know how many miles you have left when SOC is 10%. More data is better.

Everyone does the test this way to see what the absolute max distance is. You should not use it this way, go 80-20-80 for normal use.

They do it so we can get a "Base line" of range under those driving Metrics. Your 100-10% would not make any difference because you could have 4 people in the car with baggage (aka more weight) elevation could be more uphill, More wind, Colder or much hotter weather. driving slower or faster, Air density etc, There are so many combinations that can change a range figure. I like the base line to "zero" test or below so i know if in a pinch what the car will do (when new) and from there i can adjust that.
