I have programmed a steering wheel button to take you straight to the driver assistance screen making it very easy to turn off the speed warning and other annoying beeping. The OTA upgrade has added wireless carplay which is very fast to connect, but there are still issues with it in that the radio does not mute when you use Siri.

If you are spending more than £70K on a car, practicality isn't your number 1 priority. It is definitely about prestige and luxury. I'm not convinced that this version is the one that is going to make Mercedes and BMW squirm but it certainly fires a warning shot across their bows. In 2 years time when I am considering my new car, getting another BMW iX will no longer be my obvious default choice

But `high up` vehicles are notoriously less safe than smaller progeny... Unless its just the `drivers`?
@AutoEV10 ай бұрын
Why are they less safe??
@simonevans897910 ай бұрын
@@AutoEV Research quoted by Michelin supports the theory that they’re safer, with drivers and passengers in an SUV being 50% more likely to survive a car crash without suffering serious injuries compared to those in a Saloon. But that implies they are MORE dangerous in some situations, and more dangerous to smaller cars in the same 50% of collisions. When you factor in who is likely choosing such a vehicle and they didn't go `Volvo` for safety you are left to wonder why such people gravitate to overweight, bloated buses in the first place? Perhaps they have less confidence in their driving abilities and think they are better protected? When I taught motorcycles I made a point of warning my students of the disparate abilities of high sided vehicles and SUV's. The Guardian claimed that a person in an SUV is 11% more likely to die in a car crash and twice as likely to roll - due to the higher centre of gravity - but that was when BIG cars where nearly always combustion engined. 2004 I think it was... It certainly put me off the SUV class 20 years ago. Why can't we simply make smaller square wagons in 2024 and drive the wheels to the corners and cut the bonnets down?

So why are Kia in the UK pushing prices so stupidly high? Great review guys - maybe wait for the first years depreciation...then buy!

That’s a lot of money for a Kia, being old I don’t really recognise it as a ‘premium’ brand, MNC batteries mean the range isn’t really as stated, pity about the price if it was in the £30k range maybe, but for that huge amount of money I want a Mercedes, BMW etc or a Tesla as that comes with its own charging network which is very necessary here in the UK….that’s 10 years driving EV’s experience talking !

So Volvo have dumped Polestar because the EV market has, erm, stalled. EVs are obscenely expensive, even second hand, and some insurance companies are simply refusing to touch EVs. Battery life and charging points are still woeful. No Brian we’re not put off by the Kia badge, we’re put off by the absurd price and extortionate insurance, if you can get it.
@wlsntech10 ай бұрын
I don’t know if I would say stalled. Over the last decade EV sales have looked like a hockey puck. With year-over-year increase in sales. But it’s none of that there’s going to be an EV in every household by 2030 crap. Like you’ve mentioned, they are expensive expensive, besides Tesla, most of the charging networks aren’t reliable, and none of the dealers or buyers know anything about them.

@justininfrance Well I'm in France too, have bought a secondhand e208 for 17K, charge it at home most of the time, but when I need it I can use Ionity, Tesla or even Carrefour fast charging. Tesla's great as they're lowering the price per KW/h due to wholesale electricity prices going down. The battery range is enough for a work week's worth of round trips to the workplace 15Km away on country roads plus a weekly visit to the city 50Km away and back. Insurance costs hardly more than with my previous Suzuki Ignis, a 4-seat petrol car. Life's good. I agree with you when it comes to these electric SUVs though. I'll gladly leave those to people who can afford (and dare I say, really need?) them.

@ringpolitiet2 ай бұрын
@@AutoEV Happy to help. But you are taking my quote out of context, which is kind of impressive considering how short what I said is. I said your opinion ON THE KIA BRAND is irrelevant, which it is. If KIA used to be a cheaper/crappier brand or not is irrelevant today. Your general opinion on the KIA brand is similarly irrelevant. Even if they had built a car yesterday that was crap, your job is to review the car you have in front of you today, right now. When/if you review Skoda cars, do you bring up their similar history of not being a stellar brand? How is that relevant to anyone not considering an old Skoda, and by extension, an old KIA that wasn't as good as the one you are reviewing today? It is not.
@AutoEV2 ай бұрын
@@ringpolitietit gives context to how a brand has changed, and what it has done to change. People can be swayed by brands and their reputations, so I believe that it is a relevant thing to do to give background. Many people my age will remember (and perhaps judge) brands like Kia and Škoda on how they were when they first came to the UK, and that’s my point. And yes, I do bring up about Škoda in some reviews. These are examples of two brands that have completely changed their image and their approach to engineering and design. So pardon me for being thorough and giving background and historical knowledge in a car review. When a brand such as this prices a car at a level where it may compete with BMW and Mercedes Benz, it’s important to tell future buyers and prospects how different the company and its products now are.
@ringpolitiet2 ай бұрын
@@AutoEV Glad to see an improvement from from ad hominem attacks, although your "pardon me for being thorough" is a non-apology. Use proper reasoning when addressing me in the future please. History presented through facts, sure, do that if you please. But that's not what you're doing here. "It says Kia. [pregnant pause]" is what you're doing, insinuating that this is a surprise coming from Kia. That is the part of your opinion that doesn't matter. People are able to evaluate what is in front of them without knowing what came before. Let's assume you are right about the opinions of "people your age". But that means they know it already, so they do not need a history lesson. Just tell them how it is today, and they can correct their thoughts on their own time. As for people not your age, they do not need to hear what people your age used to think, in what is ostensibly a car review. Focus is on the car.

I find it difficult to see how I should give you proper reasoning when your initial opening comment was as aggressive and sarcastically rude as it was. A reasoned comment I’ll accept. Name calling I won’t. There is no need for it here. If you don’t agree with how I present these reviews, I’m happy to take the constructive feedback. Aggressive language I feel has no place here. Thank you for watching however.
