I did this, too. Was devastated to find out the AMP-line was discontinued. The AMP12 is the best pack, easily fits a 3 l water bladder, one 15" laptop, a cycle lock, changing clothes, power bank plus 45 W plug charger plus 2 13.5 " laptops in the front compartment and additionally tools, batteries, 2 cycle tubes, tube repair kit, small medkit in the admin gear set.

I bought this after watching your video to fill a gap in my collection and I've found that in the few areas it's lacking it's very easy to modify. For example the lack of hip belt. a cheap chinese 1.5" cobra knockoff from amazon run through the provided connection points solved that. I had a ferro concepts hearing protection pad I wasn't using and added that to the back of the belt and it's perfect. this makes a great range bag, and I might pick up a second so I can have one set up as a "i don't know what hike I'm going to end up doing or what the weather will be like" bag that I can just grab and go with. There's so much organization and space.

When I was in the United States Marine Corps our standard pack was 35 liters and it was considered a 3 day assault pack. I ordered the 5.11 AMP 24, hopefully it’ll be here within the next few days. I will be ordering other gear set attachments as well the AMP plate carrier in the near future.
@TaivalOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Sounds good! "3 day assault pack" as a term always brings a smile on my face - who is going to assault anything for three days straight?! But I agree, 30-35 liters is a good multipurpose pack size, not too big, not too small.

Same with me, I have the AMP 12 and I love it but the lack of water bottle holders on the side and the lack of side webbing made me buy a Direct Action Dragon Egg Enlarged instead when I was looking for a 30 L bag. I don't get it. It's so bland and blank on the side. I can definitely hook an extra pouch on the outside if I attach it to a carabiner and then to the grab handle, and I can also then attach the pouch on the bottom side to the lower cinch strap, but leaving the sides blank was a huge miss on 5.11's part.

I've been on 3 or 4 backpacking trips my entire life, and here in America we actually do use liters to describe bag volume capacity. For some reason the rest the world things that were completely imperial and we use no metric, when we actually kinda use a bit of both, so weird.
@TaivalOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Oh really, well it's always good to hear from the locals. I was basing my assumption just on what I've seen from for example on KUIU, Stone Glacier and Seek Outside packs, for example. Interesting to hear you're using kind of both, does(n't) that complicate things or?
@lava32184 жыл бұрын
@@TaivalOutdoors not really, as it is based on what you're doing. Construction, inches/feet, chemistry grams/cubic cm or milliliters, backpacking liters, measuring liquid for consumption ounces, weight for backpacking, or just in general pounds and ounces. It's ultimately up to you what you want to use, but as for most items in the store, it's imperial, on rare occasions like with backpacking bags, it's in metric, and I believe most bottled drinks are labeled with both.

This is a very good, well presented review and you refrained from smacking the heck out of the bag like most other youtube reviewers! I like the idea of owning a 5.11 product but might start with a rush 12 for the commute and see how it goes. For larger capacity I wonder whether all that organisation within the pack makes it easier or harder to get to the thing you want and therefore why so many people just go for a large bucket bag and then use smaller dry packs inside? In my opinion any bag used for overnighters should give you the option to strap a roll underneath. Is it big enough to take your sleep system inside plus everything else? These 5.11 bags aren't cheap & I'd hate to make a mistake. Thanks for your good work.
@TaivalOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the comment and feedback. For overnighters I have had my Thermarest Z-lite SOL pad strapped on the outside of the pack, but everything else fits inside. Personally I'd go with AMP over Rush series for everyday pack, as both are still molle compatible but AMP is a bit more "civilian".

1. Is the backpack heavy to wear? Will the hard plastic shell on the back be comfort enough to wear it? 2. Is the backpack suitable for everyday use in city life or is it too clumsy for that purpose?
@TaivalOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
1. I don't think a small bag like this is ever going to be heavy to wear. Personally I'd prefer a hard plastic shell like in this over formless, sack-like backpack any day. The backing is tough, but it bends/flexes a bit, so it's not like you'd carry a hardcover book against your back. But yeah, it's definitely for structure, not for comfort. 2. I guess this comes down to personal preference, but I'd say it's less "clumsy" than traditional assault packs for EDC use.

nowadays bag designers are just putting too much effort in streamlining bags' outlook. 1. no bottom strap to hold tent/sleeping roll. 2. no outside bottle pouch. Putting a tent inside plus a large bottle will probably occupy near half of the space inside! Also, no bottle pouch outside just eliminate the option to put some long shaft shape thing like a camera tripod outside. two compression straps won't be able to hold that. it claims to be a “all mission” pack, however, probably any mission involving a tent/sleeping/long camera tripod will try out its true practical capacity.
