There's something you gotta know about the difference between grain and noise...NOISE is terrible. It's usually jumping around and shifts chromatically. GRAIN is the physical texture quality of the emulsion on a film negative...grain and noise are not the same thing. The digital representation of grain sometimes looks like noise, but it's technically a luma-texture differential, not chroma. Digitally, you can achieve this really by only using pro-mist filters and effects in post...I would always always advocate for shooting as cleanly as possible at the native ISO and then tweaking it. If you want to get a dirty super16 look, throw on a 2/3 promist and go nuts. (it blooms highlights and dirties up everything...but it's destructive so don't expect to get anything back.) Great review.

Great review! I absolutely love my G2. Makes me happy every time I take it out the Pelican case to shoot. Such an amazing value for the price. I have never shot with a Red before but I thought I wanted one - not any longer. I get really great footage out of this camera and the BMPCC4Ks that I run.
@UKR6365 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. I recently purchased the G2 and love it. Your assessment of the ergonomics I think is coloured by how you have the SmallHD monitor and loop connected to the camera body. That 15mm rod doesn’t allow you to adjust things to a comfortable position. Smallrig makes a number of affordable EVF mounts that will allow you to avoid the neck strain as exhibited in your video. And of course the Ursa EVF adjusts to avoid that similar issue. I know it’s not inexpensive but I think worth it. Anyway, I’m sure you’ve investigated things to that level and are fine with the setup. So maybe for some of your viewers who might want to avoid that discomfort. Didn’t know about the OLFP so thanks for that.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club of being blown away every time you shoot. I appreciate the feedback and yes, you're correct and we are purchasing the BMC EVF this week as I'm a bit fed up with that neck strain and the low resolution of the loupe. Made it work as we we're on a budget but it's time to step it up. OLPF is worth every penny as well. Takes the camera to another level of image quality.

What lens and lighting are you using @11:52 and would you recommend rawlight for the G2? I just purchased since its now only 3k
@Watts24fps7 ай бұрын
This was years ago but I believe it was shot on a sigma 18- 35 zoom. Very standard photo lens a lot of people use that works great for a lot. . Lighting was kino flos. Now I use mostly aputure lighting and led

Could you confirm if this camera can shoot a true 2:39 or 2:40 aspect ratio? Like wider than 16x9. I can't find the info anywhere on the interwebs
@Watts24fps Жыл бұрын
If you shoot in anamorphic mode. It takes the 4.6k resolution and squeezes it to 2:39. Since it’s a 16x9 sensor it has to crop it. But it does have frame guides for 2:39 as well.
@wildwestadventures3583 Жыл бұрын
@@Watts24fps I've never heard of a sensor described as 16x9 or 4:3 or say 2:39:1. How can the sensor be 16x9 when the sensor size is roughly 22 x 15?

Sigma cine's? or standard? We are looking to invest in the cinema zooms soon.
@billzidis26565 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the standard versions. The cine was way more expensive. My only issue is that 50-100 (photo version) has alot of focus breathing when you try to pull focus,I guess thats not happening with the cine version so worth the money

Hey man I love this video and your content! I was wondering if you were able to find a baseplate that you could mount on a tripod pretty easily! I’m having trouble finding one !

So is this the g2? I’m quite confused with the versions. So we have mini 4.6k and mini pro 4.6k?
@mauricesaunders54604 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it gets confusing for real, but this here in the video is the G1 as he said it can shoot up to 4k60, the G2 can shoot up to 4k120. I think there are about 5 versions - Ursa (Original) - Ursa Mini 4k & 4.6k (2016) - Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k[only] (2017 - which is the one in this video) * Also called the "G1" - Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k G2 (2019) - Ursa Mini Pro 12k (2020) And then they have a broadcast version - URSA Broadcast Hope that helps

The BMC rig comes with a baseplate that takes 15mm rails which i have a lanparte FF and a Shape grip set on. I also have a smallrig plate on the top to accept monitors and arms and such. Definitely worth every penny.

@Watts24fps4 жыл бұрын
Nekon Samorayee I definitely recommend a black magic pocket 6k or Sony A7s II. The blackmagic pocket is more cinematic and has better colors and codecs but the sony is easier to use. No matter which camera you will need an adapter but the canon mount on the pocket makes it a bit easier with Nikon glass

How would you say this camera compares to the c200’s canon raw light?
@Watts24fps5 жыл бұрын
This is more comparable to an Alexa in terms of low light. it's very clean at 800, pretty much no grain. 1600 is useable as long as you dont under expose. it definitely can't be pushed as far as a canon but i don't find myself in situations where my camera cant really handle it. I do plenty of run n gun and night stuff and it always works. the codec also allows you to push it pretty far in exposure in post, which also helps.
