Review: Clouzy! (Switch, Xbox One & Steam) - Defunct Games

Defunct Games reviews the new adventure game Clouzy!, available now on Switch, Xbox One and PC.
Part adventure game and part cloud clinic simulator, Clouzy is an unusual mixture of ideas that mostly come together to create a fun experience. Explore a floating island full of cartoony characters and secret areas, all while making sure that clouds are bathed, fed and tended to. Unfortunately, the action quickly turns repetitive when you realize how small the island is and how few ingredients there are to pick up. Couple that with confusing mechanics and a couple poorly implemented puzzles and you have a compelling setup that doesn't really go anywhere. Both kids and adults are bound to be disappointed by Clouzy.

As a cat owner, the last thing I or my cat need is for him to start floating around places. He gets into enough trouble as it is! Plus, if he got out and floated off, he might get lost. And as cute as the clouds are, I'll probably pass on this one -- sounds like the player gets too bogged down in simplistic crafting mechanics.

Hey Cyril, thanks for the honest review. I’ll steer clear of this one. Also as someone who suffers from motion sickness, I’m not a fan of First Person games…regardless of genre.

I’m glad I saw this review. The pictures for the game online make it look like it’s third person but I can’t play first person games as they give me motion sickness

I'm a person who'd love to take care of sick clouds! But...the appeal of taking care of sick people, no matter what their species, is the actual person attached. And hopefully, seeing them at their best again. (Or, if you're of a darker mind, exploring other possibilities - in videogames, it's not actual abuse.) And I get the feeling that Spirit Farer...and even Speed Dating for Ghosts...handles that healing/hurting aspect better. Not to mention, all those DS surgeon simulators I keep meaning to get to. When I look at this, I just see....a few cute ideas, being artificially lengthened. It'd get a good grade if it were being handed in for pre-high school homework, and it'd be amazing as a website's minigame from a decade ago...there's a lot of very raw potential here. And the audience for it really does exist....I think. But this is just really, really, leaning on cute to do a lot of its heavy lifting. It really needed someone to get their heads out of the clouds, and stop day-dreaming long enough to consider the actual player experience. Anyways, QOTD - no. Just no. Floating pets would get over all kinds of barriers you don't want them getting over. And they make enough of a mess as it is. Especially if they haven't been to the vet.

There were times when I wished my dog could float so he wouldn't get all muddy, and it certainly could've been helpful as he aged. But over all, I think it would create a lot of trouble if dogs and cats floated around, getting lost, getting into and maybe even creating dangerous situations. Let's keep 'em grounded lol

I saw a lot of people comparing Clouzy to Slime Rancher on the official message board. I haven't played Slime Rancher before, so I held off on making that comparison.

@@DefunctGames I'm sure the devs welcome the comparison. I'm surprised Slime Rancher didn't spawn more of a genre. Physics simulations are hard though. Slime Rancher is worth checking out if you're in the mood for a fun, relaxing (but not easy) game that will keep you distracted.

Looked like a walking & gathering simulator but seems there was more to it than what i could see on screen. QOTD, It would be worse. I have birds and them being able to go anywhere causes a lot of problems and they're small and their poop is relatively odorless compared to cats and dogs.

Well, it does look cute, but yeah, not sure if it's my kind of game either. As for the question, I'm guessing besides Superman's doggo Krypto. I'll say worse, because setting stuff up away from them wouldn't do any good what so ever.
