You get attacked by ice very often? If so, maybe an ice pick would be a better choice. I suspect that for mostly soft, squishy targets like non-armored people that stick would do just fine though.
@Outrider748 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind though that in a self-defense situation you're more than likely going to be contacting flesh and not ice, though.

I slowed your first strike down to 25% speed, and it appears you struck with the part of the tip that broke off, and not the wider flat section. More importantly, it also appears you actually struck the inside sharp corner of the back brick! It's no wonder the small piece broke off, with the weight and momentum behind the strike. In all fairness, I would not consider that a fail, as a stick used for actual self defense is only a fail if it becomes unusable or breaks in two rendering it significantly impaired. That was not the case, and if it saved my life I would not be concerned with any minor cosmetic damage imparted. Most folks will buy one for the possibility of needing it for self defense, and flesh and bone will give far easier than a brick. Also,.... I think for me I'm planning to pick one up, but will be modifying it to 36" to fit me better. I'll also remove the short spike and round off and decrease the overall size of the axe head part to more of a "Derby" style shape, it order to make it less threatening in outward appearance and less a LEO questioning magnet. This should, no doubt, also decrease the weight by a not insignificant 3-5 ounces,...which is not too shabby! :-) Joe T Ti Rod Tactical

Those" thin tips "are not meant to hit anything really hard, but great for self defense, in general against humans or vicious animals . I love having it, and the confidence it gives . I Enjoy your videos .

"Right off the bat.." You should look up "bearded axe" and you'll see that it's not a hatchet. Next, most self defense scenarios don't include smacking ice, cinder blocks, etc. at full speed. If you hit a head, chest, arm or lknee joint with either side of the axe, the cane won't be what's hurt. Thirdly, Cold Steel warranties the product, get a new one. And a new catch phrase. And I agree with the other comment, try something other than marching band moves through out the video. Hang in there, you'll make better videos that show more than one torture test and the products "spinability."

I don’t think it’s a fail if it broke when you hit a block of solid ice with an object designed for walking and *maybe* in a sticky situation hitting fleshy human beings, which are nowhere near the same material as ice.

The only fail I saw through the whole video was him failing to realize that most weapons that are meant to be used on people will still suffer damage if you smack a piece of cement with them. The test itself is a stupid fail. And his fat gut in the Under Armour shirt. That is also a fail.

That was great, thanks. very helpful as all I could find were stock photos. It looks bigger than I thought, esp. the shaft and base. I am still undecided, did it pass busting on a brick? Who cares a shot like that would definitely change an attitude. Thanks!

probably worth the moeny just for the flattened indestructable stick. seems like a good host for a warhead spear head knife with the back spike removed and the rest of it rounded to a more regular hook cane shape.

It wasn’t a fail.. it’s a cane that CAN be used as a self defense tool. It WASN’T designed to be smashed through a block of ice lol. It’s not an ice pick cane lol. And they’re not unbreakable they’re impervious to the elements, i assume water and sun and such lol. You broke it.
@chrislxxix36266 жыл бұрын
I do completely agree. I'm all for abuse/stress tests etc because they are interesting to see but in all honesty those type of 'walking canes' were created to be a (quite reliable and cheap) self defence baton first, and then, but only secondly (IMO) as mere walking canes. I mean, let's be honest, let's say an old person or someone that, due to various reasons, needs a walking cane/support for walk, isn't exactly too interested into purchasing a blunt 'weapon' :-P
@hugostiglitz98646 жыл бұрын

@frankgonzalez38228 жыл бұрын
To me not a fail. If you file that tip down then you will weaken that section and most likely it will break off again if you repeat the test.

@JakeEnns7 жыл бұрын
I don't call it a fail. There is NOTHING in the world that is actually unbreakable, it just needs the perfect circumstances to break. As you said earlier in the video, it is for self defense against animals and humans, on those I seriously doubt that it would have broken at all. It isn't designed for rock or bricks - even though they do show a guy breaking bricks on Cold Steels own channel but that is just because PETA would come down so hard on them if they did it to a coyote and the law would come down hard if they used it against a human for their video, so they had to demonstrate it against something, just like you needed to do. It's a PASS.

I slowed down your first strike it cut that brick the brick sheared exactly the path and angle of the axe head. When you use to other side that brick disintegrated in the very spot you struck it. If you have to bust a glass in a car it will shatter the glass first strike I guarantee it. If you hit a man in the head with that it would probably make him a coloring book artists if he lived.

your first swing was full or close to it full strength & it's a shame it cost you the tip. your 2nd & 3rd swings i would say were less than 1/2 the power of the first. Still it's a very good video good commentary. If I were looking for a great walking/weapon stick I'd be chasing down the Blackthorn. The axe design might get you stopped by local PD or denied entry to many places, not so with the ball top of the Blackthorn.
@TriCityLuv3C8 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not I've never had any police contact while using any of my canes. All eight of my polypropylene sticks are mainly used when I go out and about and as of this response, have never been detained by police, never been asked to leave any of the places I go to either. To be fair, I'm a regular at the places I walk to with them. This, and when I go out, I look the part of a person who walks alot, (ie backpack, cargo shorts, bottled water). Remember, there are laws which prevent businesses from refusing you service or asking you to leave over a cane or staff that aids in mobility anyhows, so I don't anticipate trouble from businesses or cops as a result.

First of all when asked what that is tell them it is a medical device when they ask you what you need it for you say I don't answer questions. HIPAA forbids them from legally asking what your disability is. And finally they might take your cane and hand you another in some places but they have to allow you to use a cane if you say you require one. I know I don't fall anymore now that I walk with one. I would fall due to tripping hazards since I use canes that just does not happen.
