My first Boss Pedal ever was the Chorus CE 2. Bought it in 1980 . Played many gigs and it's been through hell and back and still sounds great today. Never selling it.

He is famous for the electric mistress but he used JC120 which is basically the ce-1 inside an amp, also interviews say he did have both the ce-1 and the ce-2.

a lot of musicians use a flanger lightly as a chorus effect. i use an ibanez fl9 for that.

Robet Fripp and Adrian Belew used The Roland Jazz Chorus amps for many years with Kin Crimson.

I'm not a fan of the whammy bar + chorus pedal. Not saying you can't or shouldn't but for demoing a chorus pedal it might be better not to. I'd like to hear the effect as your chord rings out. Other than that, great review and playing as usual, John. 👍

Agree re chorus + whammy bar. Using a vibrato bar on top of a chorus/vibrato pedal makes it difficult to tell how much of the effect is due to the pedal vs the bar.

Waza pedals are great and I love the analog re-issues but when they did the TU-3 Tuner I was a bit pissed off. Why do a Waza tuner? Keep the older ones coming for the digital crap.

I have a Sky King amp and a Roland JC77...I was hesitant to drop the $230, but it wasn't worth lugging around the JC77 with 3 mics and a switcher just to get this effect. This does it in mono, and if I want to use a second amp makes it a bit easier than the JC to integrate. However I def will record and stack with my JC when I want that sound mic stereo. But live for where I'm at mono is so so much easier than having stuff bouncing off walls, and competing with the PA and room reflections. The sound of this Chorus is just a must have for my clean sounds!!!! Nothing comes close for me!

Sounds great. One of my favorite chorus sounds is the Dunlop rotovibe. The mxr analog chorus is great too. I had a cheapo delta lab chorus pedal and it sounded great for only being $50 but it was just too noisy.

If you play 'Message in a Bottle' wihtout forming a bar across the strings, you'll find it way, way easier to play. Also, lift the guitar neck up a bit which will stop you straining your wrist.

The Boss CE-1 was the BEST chorus Roland/Boss ever created. The CE-2 was a complete letdown when it was released after having used a CE-1 for awhile. The problem with the CE-1 was it's size, supposedly. Not a problem for me, but I understand some people complained about its size... they wanted a smaller, more "pedal board-friendly" size. Or, at least that's what Boss said. The best thing Boss could do is to remake the original CE-1 with original parts/circuitry/etc. The CE-1 setting on this chorus is closer to the original CE-1... but still "not a complete cigar" as far I'm concerned... at least it doesn't sound that way in the demos I've heard. I may try this new one though, just for the CE-1 mode... someone ran off with my original CE-1 chorus.

Tomás Valladares don’t “read”, test it. But before of that, please try the originals first. Look for an original black label 80’s , theres a lot of offers on reverb. BUT, I really like new Boss pedals too, don’t make me wrong. I love Boss pedals. Cheers

@@robotrobotmainmain1013 I've owned an original CE2 and they are not worth the money people ask for them these days, great when they were £40 or something. The old Boss buffers from that era are not always that great and do band limit the sound, so can muddy up distortion sounds if run afterwards. These old buffers led to the true bypass obsession after all. It's also nice to see the CE1 circuit and separate rate & depth for the Chorus mode. Its also often forgotten that the CE1 Chorus circuit was used in a variety of Boss & Roland devices during that era which didn't include the horrible CE1 preamp, not just the Jazz Chorus amps, the Chorus Echoes all featured that circuit. Outside of a love for the CE1 preamp, I can't see a single upside to getting either an original CE1 or 2 beyond just wanting to experience them, or just enjoy collecting pedals.
