I wanted to see if this module was worth buying, I am using a 5V Solar Panel rated at 2.5W. Not sure how accurate that specification is but will find out in this video.
So the goal is to make a effective Solar Charger not just something for show. I did not hook any batteries to the body of the solar panel but just a long wire so I don't have to worry about the hot sun when charging my mobile device.
5 Volt 2 Amp Solar Panel Power Bank USB Charge Voltage Controller Regulator 6V - 20V (Seller is no longer on eBay)
Also check out my other video using the same module but with a 12 volt 8 watt Solar Panel

0.32 mAh? It must be 320mAh. Either you read something wrong, or you got a defective product.

A little confused. I have 6 volt panels and I hooked these up to test charging. I used a USB meter like what you used. While the panels would output a higher voltage without a load, this voltage gets pulled down immediately as soon as a load is connected. I was reading *around 4.5 volts at up to 5 watts today going to a power bank. So my question would be, outside of the capacitor which would somewhat smooth the voltage out...what is the point? It seems like the controller would just consume power.

I wonder if you could just connect the charge regulator to a car battery or lithium polymer battery from an R/C aircraft, like a 5,000mah 14v lipo?

Good question, I'm going to try that out soon then upload the results.

I bought one of these off Amazon and tested it...yes it works fine of a Lipo battery, I simply wired it up to a deans type connector and plugged it in.

Thanks again Taylor, I'd like to know the max input current(A) the 5V 2A solar voltage regulator can withstand? I am trying to calculate the number of solar panels I can use with it.
@TaylorSoloaiJR
@TaylorSoloaiJR 5 жыл бұрын
Wish I had an answer for you but I don't even know. I tried looking for info on this but nothing. I don't even have enough panels to try and test if it can handle more then 2A input.

Can I just use a regular buck converter and set it to a specific voltage? I'm looking to hook it up to 2 AAA batteries that are constantly in use, and thinking of hooking up a small panel and a buck converter to something like 3.5v (so 0.5V keeps batteries topped up without damaging them) Will this work? Thanks
@TaylorSoloaiJR
@TaylorSoloaiJR 4 жыл бұрын
The problem with some buck converters is that when you get a shadow on the panel or all of a sudden it gets cloudy and the voltage drops, it won't recover from it and it doesn't output any voltage anymore. One KZbinr did an experiment on it and that happened, not sure if the newer version modules are better at recovering. I guess summer time is not a problem since it's sunny all day. Oh and I would hook up the AA batteries in parallel and set it to 1.4 volts. Because in series it might cause the other battery to over charge since theirs no battery management board to manage the voltage on each battery. That's what I think, unless someone else on KZbin has a better suggestion and comments.

@@TaylorSoloaiJR Hey again, I got my solar panel, a cheap 5v one from ebay with a built in USB port and I hooked up to the "INPUT" on my power bank. while the sun was out it was charging and nearly full, but overnight, by morning the battery went from 3 bars down to 1. Do I need some kind of reverse current protection? Thanks
@TaylorSoloaiJR
@TaylorSoloaiJR 4 жыл бұрын
Hi again, You need a blocking diode so your power bank doesn't get discharged during the night. I usually just salvage those from old electronics but you can also find those on eBay as well.
@ArcanePath360
@ArcanePath360 4 жыл бұрын
@@TaylorSoloaiJR Thanks. Seems a bit silly they didn't put one in the circuit. I didn't think it possible for the power bank to loose power from the "input" side, but oh well, guess if you buy cheap you buy twice...

In how many hours will it charge a power bank of 4000 mah
@TaylorSoloaiJR
@TaylorSoloaiJR 5 жыл бұрын
If its constantly recharging at 300mAh it will probably take more then 12hrs but in a real life situation it’s going to more then that. Because not everyday is a sunny day. Just depends on the weather. So if i wanted to have less charging time i would need more of the same solar panel in parallel. I already uploaded a video with two of the same panel and it only gave me about 600mAh so i need more.
