I purchased this generator Saturday morning. Sunday the hurricane came and we lost power. I hooked it up and it ran great. I ran lights, ceiling fans, a 3.5 ton AC unit, and my well. On 8 gallons it lasted 7 hours and a few minutes. We got power back on at noon and it’s back out now at 4pm. When we get back on power, I will change the oil, drain most the tank and run it dry. My old Craftsman ran from 2006 until this year. I hope to get a long life out of this Firman as well.

It uses about 1 gallon of propane per hour, a little less on gasoline. THD on this unit is high but in my experience it has not affected anything around my house, all sensitive electronics run with no issues. I run mine on propane and it works great. I strongly suggest changing the oil after the first hour of use and again every hour for at least 5 hours, I did this and dumped the used oil in a transparent ziplock bag and could see the floating metal shavings. Great video, thanks for posting

I bought this same generator at Lowe's in 2022 during a power-out circumstance as well. My older and smaller generator wouldn't start, so I was pleased to get a dual fuel, larger capacity, electric starting generator at the time. I've used it for a couple of days during subsequent weather outages and it has worked flawlessly, getting better gas usage than I expected. I only use Non-Ethanol gasoline in this machine and all my other small engine equipment. I learned this from my small engine mechanic after fixing several of my mowers, chainsaws, and other things over the years, mostly with gas issues. Since using Non-Ethanol gas, those problems have disappeared and I don't have to do anything special to them over the winter. I do have one little nitpick with my Firman, though. The last time I ran it a couple of weeks ago, when I turned the switch up to the OFF mark, it went slightly past the vertical (toward the propane side) and I couldn't get it to turn back to the gasoline side. I worked on that today by removing the phillips head screw in the center of the switch and fiddled with it a bit. Something seems to be catching on the detents along the upper perimeter of the switch inside. Being careful not to mess up the plastic switch housing, I got it working again. If it happens again, now I at least know I can fix it with a screwdriver and some wiggling of the plastic switch.

I saw your video where you were running all your appliances Plus the heater. Do you think it would run central air conditioning as well as all the other appliances? I live in Florida so it's kind of a must during hurricane season.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 ай бұрын
That should be no problem. A home AC system can typically use up to 4,000 watts. This generator is rated for 7,500 watts. So it can handle it, plus additional capacity to run many other appliances at the same time.

I just bought mine today and did everything you just did to make sure its running correctly, but! The issue im having is that it keeps tripping and shutting off, not the generator itself but what i have connected to it. I have 2 window units, a fridge a fan and a small lamp, i have the lamp, fan, and 1 wondow unit connected to a multi plug. And it shuts those 3 things off. Am i over loadong it? Or?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Ай бұрын
It sounds like that outlet is being overloaded. That outlet is rated for 20 amps. The two window AC units are drawing the most current. Those could potentially be drawing 20 amps on their own. There should be a sticker or label on the devices that specifies how many amps it uses. You can check the labels and add it up to see if you are exceeding 20 amps.

⚠️Don’t forget about the generator safety: This is a very important announcement for everyone. It’s important to follow all generator safety rules whenever we use portable generators. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. This is just a reminder. Here are the safety rules: 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2LNhWZ3g6qBrKs and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators Hope this helps. Remember safety first.

Do you have to drain the gas for storage
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Ай бұрын
I have not emptied the tank to store it. My stance is that it’s better to store it with gasoline in the tank because it will prevent the inside of the tank from rusting where it is in contact with gas. Technically, gasoline has a shelf life of three to six months, so you should not leave the same gas in it for years. I start and run it for a little bit a couple times a year to get everything moving and keep it operational.

They make a Tri-Fuel version which I purchased at Costco. It runs on NG, Propane or Gasoline. I did set up a NG quick connect to my gas line and it ran well. You will get the lowest wattage ratings on NG which is about 6900 watts starting and 5500 running. I turn off all my subpanel and then turn one area on at a time and only those areas I need electric power when running on NG. If running on gasoline, you get about 2000 more running watts but a NG source means endless supply of fuel since NG doesn't usually go out in emergencies.

Can u run the house ac??
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Ай бұрын
The answer is likely yes, but it depends on the size of your central air ac unit and which plug you are using on the generator. Check the label on your ac unit to see how many amps it uses. It could be anywhere from roughly 15 to 40 amps depending on the size of the unit. The generator has a 30 amp outlet and a 50 amp outlet for whole house use. You may not be able to run other appliances at the same time that use high amps, such as a washing machine.
