Review FLIR SCOUT Thermal Monocular

These Flir Scouts are certainly not cheap but they do work quite well and it’s amazing what you see around camp after a day on the trail.

These things are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for them to be making them with batteries you can't replace if needed.... Like if it sits for too long and the battery goes bad... It's junk.

Yeah the lack of a way to change out the battery is certainly a downfall.

Who says you can’t get creative and figure out how to open it OR break the plastic outer shell without breaking anything conduit to its mission then work on locating any identifying circuitry characteristics on the chipset inside that should help you identify what and where this microchips circuitry map is so you can know how things work, how they’re connected and what the relationship between one board action with another or without another does to the operation of the device as well as the electronics system itself. Search any names or cluster of letters and numbers you see on the microchip into Google and see what comes up. You should be able to find something. Now, you should be able to find the company’s trademark, copyright, patent filings or anything related to the things intellectual property online from a legal filing public notice record there will be information all about the technical aspects of the product. If the thing you're looking for isn’t a half brained manufacturer then the company would have Definitely made the appropriate and necessary filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ( www.USPTO.gov ) to protect their I.P. ( Intellectual Property ). This is used to Then locate their filings and the descriptive legal description the document tends to be. Find out where the battery is on the device if you can see it. Next you need to detach the batteries and to do this you will be using an electric hot solder’s heat that is on its small metal extremely hot steel tip - this is what you will be using to tip of it to tap on to the wiring connections soldered joints to heat up and gently pull apartment from the battery one wire at a time and working slowly.

There is a way to change the batteries and it's very inexpensive there's a video on KZbin on how to do it

I bought the TK Scout back in 2015. It has served me well since then and still going strong - even after spending the entire off-season (accidentally) in my hunting vest. Still fires right up and holds a charge well. Even when the temps are at one extreme end or the other. I will say, I'm disappointed that there is absolutely zero provision for mounting this monocular anywhere, which stinks. I lost the lanyard years ago; and I hate having to constantly keep getting it out of my pocket. The photo and video recording is nice; but a rangefinder feature would have set this over the top.

It would be nice to be able to mount it......i guess I would have to spend a bit more for that though. This thing definitely hit the spot for what I needed. Thanks for checking out the video.

Yeah there are a few better options out there at this point. Like typical technology things have gotten better and cheaper. I’ve had this one for quite a few years at this point.

It certainly does. It's less effective when it's hot outside as it's focused on temperature variations but works perfectly fine in day or night.

This isn’t driven by light but instead by temperature so the short answer is that it depends. On colder days you will have more contrast to the temp of the rabbit. Warmer ones less so.
