Depends on how you like. Normally it would be front one way and rear solid axle to have constant power at the back and handbrake effect with one way.

You can get wheels with high offset like 3-3.5mm offset. Wide wheels will also make things easier since they are 2.5mm wider than narrow wheels. Hello, First thanks for all movies you made. I have a question for you. I'm using lots of MR03, MR03VE, with PN Racing options and Atomic BZ, all to make race on RCP. MA015 for drift on carpet during vacation with One Way and rigid axe on rear. It's a 7 years old car and plastics are not in a good Heath. Now I want to buy a good car on Banggood or AliExpress for drifting on carpet, and if possible use it on RCP. My choice will go to a Mini-Q or Mini-D with brushless with maximum of aluminum parts, but there is lots of models (q5, q6,q7,q8,q9,... d,d1) All theses cars looks like GLA or BZ, and it's what I want. Which Mini-D or Q model is the best for you? Do you think this kind of car could have same performance than GLA or BZ on RCP? Or these kind of cars are limited to drift.

I highly recommend Q7 because of double wishbone suspension with grease filled shock. Mini-Q Q7 and Q9 (if you look on aliexpress) are the same car. Q9 has some metal upgrades preinstalled. For drifting Q7 would rival any expensive cars. It's more stable but less agile than my AMZ with bell crank upgrade (haven't done a proper comparison video yet... coming soon). But the track performance is not the same as GLA because there's some slop in the control arms and GLA has bell crank steering so it has a better tuning as well. Also GLA is race-proven so it's a stronger car too. Well, GLA is the best of shaft-driven AWD chassis right now anyway. However this car is well worth the price, more than enough to have fun and besides, it's fully adjustable out of the box. You can do some bracing like you would do on the Mini-Z AWD DWS where there are more 2 linkages on the rear upper arm to brace them and stop them from moving forward and backward and it'll rival any expensive car. I have the whole series dedicated to upgrading Q7 to CS drift car from using off the shelf parts to fabricate your own. I have't done the bracing because it's not that important to me, standard suspension is more than enough for drifting. kzbin.info/aero/PLS79G3YjA2fAgjiyJam-5JvovvCShTksU BTW, Mini-D is actually Yokomo Warrior 1/28 and it doesn't have any cross compatibility with Mini-Z except the wheels. So you wouldn't want that.

​@@userbeecore5516 Newer Mini-Q one way has very sharp gear and it'll eat your pinion so don't use that. Mini-Q uses the same diffs, same wheels as Mini-Z so you can remove stuffs from your MA-015 and use them in Mini-Q. Swing shafts or Universal shafts are also the same but it's the 10.5mm long one like in the front of your BZ. - [Diff/One Way/ Rigid Axle] I highly recommend Mini-Z front one way because it's smooth and you can replace the gear if need be. As for the rear solid axle, again, use Mini-Z part. Metal upgrade isn't that necessary and if you want metal car, get Q9, it'll be metal from the beginning and I think all the parts should work (there's been a case that getting Q7 to do metal upgrade and the parts don't fit). If the store you see got plastic parts, look in other stores. I've seen a full metal Q7 called Q9 before. The important metal bits are motor mount and shock towers. If you want more rigidity, metal control arms are also good. The other parts like prop shaft holder, servo mount and battery mount are just for looks. Shop around to see which store gives you the best deal and parts combination. - [ESC] All the electronics are the same as other 1/28. If you like Hobbywing made ESC I suggest getting the Atomic one. It's the same as GL but it's only about $35 because they don't overcharge. - [Servo] I highly recommend AGF A11CLS which you probably are already using it in your BZ. bit.ly/2kevKFL It's the best without a "badge" from Atomic or GL to jack up the price. There's ZH plug too but it's out of stock right now. You can find the same servo (with different prices) on Aliexpress too. - [Gyro] It is not necessary, you are not drifting a RWD car. But if you do need one, get the AGFRC v3. It's like a shrank down Yokomo V4 with EPA adjustment. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000713029569.html Mini-D isn't a very good car compared to other in this price range. It looks good but you can't use any diff from Mini-Z. There's only original ball differential, no upgrade. Dogbones are literal dogbone and not CVD. Try it at your own risk but I've talked to someone who actually has it and he said AMZ is a much better car that it. So by association Q7 is also a better car than Mini-D too. Different motor side is just a design choice. They can put it any way they like. Just balance it properly and it'll be the same. In conclusion, Mini-Q is on Mini-Z AWD platform, Mini-D is not. That's why I made my choice not to get Mini-D too. None of my stuffs will be compatible except wheels. No spare parts available. If I'd pay for a car more I'd put my money on Atomic DRZ v2 or even BMR-X. At least I got a proper drift car out of that and not an obsolete chassis with no compatibility like Mini-D.

Great video as always Master Beaver. I have just received NB4 Transmitter and micro receiver.. I am looking to install in Mini z Ma020, is that possible? The micro receiver is much smaller than the one on the car currently.. Any advice or video as to how to install, it would seem I will have to do some soldering as nothing seems to plug together and needs to be direct wired. Unfortunately you can't replace the receiver in a standard Mini-Z. It's an all-in-one proprietary board. You can use standard RC components (3-wire system) by taking the original board out, install servo board (bought from PN Racing or salvaged part from other 5g/9g micro servo) then install your own ESC. And because you have NB4 radio there's also another way. You can convert your Mini-Z to EVO. Buy the EVO board and Mini-Z proprietary NB4 receiver. Yep, you can't use any of the standard receivers, it needs to be the one from Mini-Z platform. This is the most expensive way to do and not the best on MA020 either.

Yes, the plug orientation is the same. Yours should bind to DasMikro ASF without any trouble. Binding procedure should be the same as this receiver too. You just have to find you to get EX5 into bind mode.

You'll need to convert the original Mini-Z electronics to 3 wire standard by removing the original board, convert the servo to 3 wire by installing a servo board. Take a look at PN Racing. There's an old version which is still good and a new version which is very expensive but it's great. Next you'll need an ESC. Then connect ESC and servo to this receiver and it's done.

Hello again Master Beaver.. I have recently replaced my servo board and micro receiver as I thought I had burnt out one of them by accident when plugging in power.. Now they have been replaced with new and tried to bind, but no binding light came on on the reciever.. Power and lights on ESC.. I'm unsure as to why this would be, is there a reason other than no power to receiver that would cause it not to light up when attempting to bind? Have tried several times and also changed plugs from ESC to receiver.. Any other potential issues I should look for that may be causing this issue? Have been without my Mini z for over a month and my micro RC addiction needs feeding.. Thank you in advance for your wisdom ☺️✌️

Check the ESC first, if it's still working you should get a light or a beep when turning it on. If not check the battery connection. If the ESC is OK but the receiver doesn't light up then either the polarity is wrong (some wires are swapped) or the receiver is dead.

@@BeaversHobby Thank you so much for such a fast reply! I can confirm the ESC s working, beep and light, and the reciever is brand new dasmikro micro reciever.. Also replaced servo board with newer model dasmikro servo board for mini z, seems to be smaller and according to diagram the JST plug wires are on the opposite side of the board to the power wires then in the previous pn racing servo board.. Could the servo board be effecting power to or the circuit of the reciever? Or should the receiver work regardless of servo board being plugged in? 🤔🤔🤔 🙏🙏🙏

@@lukeashton5774 The receiver will work as long as there's a power applied to it. No need to plug the servo in. Try it with only the ESC first. If that still doesn't work then there's a problem with the receiver. Don't worry, faulty receiver can happen too. Once you have verified that the receiver is working you can move on to the servo. You can also plug 5v into the receiver directly then plug the servo into the receiver and see if that works. This way you can check the servo separately from the ESC.

But sadely I can't bind it after the upgrade process... maybe my firmware version FW2.0.93(FCC version) for longer range as to be changed to standars one...

It means there's a port for a proprietary gyro from Flysky that will come later... whenever they finish making one. Not that it matters though since we all use an external gyro when it comes to RWD drifting.

Great video and really smooth drifting. I have been enjoying the Noble NB4 on my 1/28 as well 1/10 crawler but unfortunately the radio stopped working. Got replacement and this also stoped working (Supplier never informed what was the problem but I suspect was the grip battery). Anyway, really enjoyed the radio and that little receiver but I am reluctant to go a get myself another NB4. I have other two radios, a Flysky GT5 and a Sanwa M17 but I believe none work with GMR micro receiver. Do you know any solution? Is there a micro receiver that might work with either these radios? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Since you have a Sanwa M17, no need to go back to NB4. There're micro receivers for it with FH3/FH4 protocol made by DasMikro. Here's the new version. It's even smaller than the GMR. bit.ly/3sJ2fJV There's also one with integrated gyro too. bit.ly/3rL5Bg8 By the way, if the problem is the grip battery you can take it apart and replace it with any standard 18650 Li-ion battery.

You are right about the option of replacing the internal battery but since radio was still under warranty and I was not sure that was the problem, decided to return it. Regarding your suggestions for the receiver, That is great, I am happy to be able to use the Sanwa on my smaller scale car too- it has proved very reliable on my 1/10 4WD Buggy and a real pleasure to use. I think I will opt for the first one you suggested and a later point I will purchase a dedicated gyro - this was on my list anyways and keeping the option to fit a dedicated one is perhaps better, don't you think? I remember watching another video on your channel when you tested a gyro that you said was very good - I will try to find that video and revisit it.

@@vaamorais Yes, the external gyro is the best for drifting. If you only want mild stabilization, onboard will do fine but not for drifting. I think this is the video you are looking for. From the dimensions I see that it fits under all Mini-Z but you'll need a small ESC. PN Racing V1 will do nicely. However bear in mind that you'll need somewhere to put the servo board too.

Man if you desolder all those plug connectors its super slim for an rc car reciever. I think most people would would say why remove the plugs. I'm just used to removing plugs and such from flying tiny whoop drones and every gram used to matter.

It depends on the ESC as well. Some ESC will need the plug to program so you'll need to leave the plug in. Some that has external port for programming like the GL you see in this video doesn't so you can take all the plugs out and solder the wires directly to it. In car community we tend to leave the plugs in for quick swapping and maintenance as well.

It'll work with GLR v1.2 ESC no problem at all. Just plug it in channel 2 and don't forget to calibrate the ESC.

AWD is easy while RWD is the way forward. Now there are 2 new chassis coming out, Atomic DRZ v2 (already out) and GL Racing GLD (in a few weeks). This also depends on what components you already own, radio, battery charger, etc. If you just started then Mini-Z AWD will be your best solution because you only need AAA batteries and a charger. Otherwise hunting down all the parts is quite a task.

Mini-Q Q7, I mentioned it in the video when I installed the receiver. Anyway, this receiver uses standard plug for Atomic and GL Racing so if you use any of those cars' electronics you can plug everything in directly.

Kyosho is selling the Noble with two micro receivers for $239.99, better deal than Banggood as they are selling the Noble for $199 now.

Check which receiver you need because Kyosho version comes with Mini-Z EVO receiver and it's not compatible with other cars. If you intend to use it with Mini-Z then get the Kyosho version. Otherwise anything is the same because none of them come with GMR or any micro receiver for 3 wire standard RC components.

Have you tried the same method as advanced receiver? Holding bind until it blinks then use receiver updater on PC to update it. I haven't got the EVO yet so maybe you can ask in Mini-Z group facebook.com/groups/722063711267613/ or NB4 official group facebook.com/groups/743454109447266 .
