Waiting for mine to arrive from Amazon. Would have purchased it from a dealer but their camera choices are meager. I rarely take movies but that zoom noise is a bit concerning nonetheless. Hopefully the picture quality will be good enough to make that point moot. Thanks for your short review! I'm so pleased you don't go on and on and on saying um all the time. You don't sound foreign either--I completely understand you!

hi. you said it's amazing that you can charge the battery in the camera. may I ask how is that more beneficial than removing the battery

In your video sample, fast and slow zoom, the fast zoom in and out takes about 6 seconds. How long does it take in stills mode. SX50 is about 2 seconds. The zoom in zoom out speed and autofocus speed espêcially (some people can't lock onto anything it seems) is crucial. WHat is your opinion, and have you tried other newer cams recently, The stabilkisation on the canon sx50 works great in mos conditions. THe lens seems reasonably sharp in side by side comparisons on imaging resource with my top choices: canon sx 60, sony hx400, however the grainy noise is heavy on solid backgrounds even at iso 100, whereas canon has ultra smooth noise free to at least 400. I returned a fuji sl1000 due to this, but fuji seems committed to treating noise in this fashion, Not sure why, maybe they would prefer graininess in the background rather than smear the subject, which I find pretty sharp in the studio tests. What does the raw output look like? Maybe the bias of a film manufacturer... The camera remote app looks better than sony and canon. Too bad for the plastic tripod mount, makes you scratch your head, but maybe there is no metal chassis to attach a metal part to under it? Can you compare the image quality to gold standard such as pan fz200 or sx50. I know I don't like fuji's low iso noise, but otherwise has pretty good features for the $. The ability to take stills during video with no impact is great, but it sounds like a bright outdoor light only cam.

Thank you for great review:) I'm searching for a bridge camera to take moon shots, I know that to get great shots I'd need a dslr but I have to make do with a bridge at the moment. Do you reckon the fuji s1 would be okay or you would recommend something else?
@michaelerbreviews9 жыл бұрын
I think this could work for you. Use a tripod.

aniccadance13 have a look at the review on Image Resource : www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/best-superzoom-2014/best-superzoom-2014-A.HTM The S1 came second overall, but placed first in the 'Shooting the moon' segment.

So let's say you have a dead battery and you left the proprietary charger at home. How would you charge the battery? If you can charge it in camera via USB, problem solved. You can have a batterypack with you in case of dead camera battery, or you can charge while in your car with a USB car charger, etc. Much better to have a battery that can be charged in camera with USB.

Hi Michael, I have a very fast connection and my video settings are on 1080p and I didn't see the picture quality impressive? No bad though. Does that have to do with the lighting in your pictures or is that the max this camera can offer?
@michaelerbreviews9 жыл бұрын
+alawabidingcitizen It has to do with video compression

Thanks for a really cool video. I did not realize that this camera existed cuz I thought it was the same as the x-s1, but I like most of the features on this, especially the weather resistance and the fully articulating finder; however, I regret to say that I get that queasy feeling in my gut when I think about the tripod mount's plastic threads. I use a tripod a whole lot. I even use it on my little Finepix 505, but then I thought that I could just mount a quick release plate onto the camera and problem solved, except the plate would obviously block the battery/memory card door. So what is an anal retentive to do?
@EnglandsAngelLand10 жыл бұрын
I use a quick release plate, the usb on the side will allow computer access and a smartphone can also be used to retrieve the photos via wifi. however there isn't much grip and you need to tighten it every now and again slightly. Hope this helped. :)

How do you use manual focus on this camera? That option exists in the menu, and I can set for manual focus, but I can't figure out how to actually focus manually. Or is that a video only feature?
@michaelerbreviews10 жыл бұрын
You choose Manual Focus in the Focus Mode menu and then use the Control Dial.

I heard the quality was on par with the camera of a iPhone 5. I hope that's not true.
@michaelerbreviews9 жыл бұрын
Where did you hear this exactly? Does the iPhone5 shoot RAW? Does the iPhone5 have a 1200mm (35mm equivalent) zoom? The iPhone5 camera is not bad for a smartphone, but it's no match to this camera, sorry.

Pressing the shutter button during video will capture a still shot. I don't think you can pause video recording.

Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of purchasing this. When you were zooming in on the bird feeder, was that tripod mounted? If so, how well is the zoom if handheld?

Hi Michael, Thanks for this and this is one of my picks for the upgrade along with Olympus SP100EE and the Sony HX400V and Prob yet to be announced Canon SX60. Saw two reviews so far and both complain of bad image quality. I'm kinda now in two minds coz image quality is extremely important to me. If you can share your thoughts on that, it'd be great. The noise of the motor is terrible but I can live with it if the IQ is stellar. Waiting to see a more comprehensive review soon. Cheers

You change the focus mode setting to Area and move it where you want

Reviews, Tutorials & Tech Thanks Michael. Very awkward to have to go thru a menu to move the focusing point. In my opinion this camera means more programable function buttons. The battery can fit in the compartment more than one way. Bummer if your rushing. I wIsh it had a touch screen. Love the start up time and zoom speed. I'm going to go shoot a outdoor car show this morning. I'll let you know how fun it was to shoot with.

PolitoLopez I have not used it in that way, but I don't see why not. You need to use a tripod, proper shutter speed and aperture settings for this type of photography. It's tricky.

Fuji wants you to buy an expensive adapter to use filters, which attaches to the bayonet mount that the also optional expensive lens hood uses, so both cannot be used at the same time! Great engineering. What is odd is that there are threads on the lens but is some strange size, smaller than 55mm and larger than 52mm both standards. Why in the world is this camera which is newer and more expensive than the X-S1 which has manual zoom AND manual focusing which any serious photographer prefers. Does anyone know what the thread size is?
@jazziboy1110 жыл бұрын
