I recently completed the hasegawa 1/32 bf-109g6 and used my galaxy tools to rivet the model and it looks so much better than an unriveted kit, I'm with you on this one, rivets are better than a plain surface, great demonstration, clear consice and to the point...

In that scale I'd say riveting is pretty much essential!

Thanks for this interesting review, Jamie; it seems like an excellent alternative for the RB ones I love; Galaxy also has the corner wheels that are very useful for tight spaces.

Hi Jamie. After watching your review of the Galaxy rivet tool, I have ordered and received one via Aliexpress in China. Until now I have been using Radu's otherwise excellent riveter sets but always found them to be a bit flimsy! After spending much of today having a play with the various wheels and segment tools, the Galaxy tool is far superior in that regard. I generally use them to faintly mark out the rivet lines for spacing, then use a beading tool to make the actual rivet indentation (or Dzus fasteners). Hopefully I'll meet up with you next year at Telford, plagues and pandemics permitting!

Hi Peter, great too hear from you again, it's been a very long time. I also do the same for Dzus fasteners! I'm not sure I'll be able to make Telford for quite a long time owing to the job out here in Saudi, if I can get there it would be great to meet up mate.

Great review Jamie, if it’s good enough for you it’s good enough for me, I’ve been trying to buy a set of Rosie riveters for about 2 years without success, ended up with the Revell rivet wheel and it’s hopeless , a set of these have been ordered 👍👍

Another useful video, Jamie. Sometimes it was hard for me to see. It seems you were working off camera... Nevertheless, good to see you using this tool. What sets you advise for 1/72 and 1/48 kits? Best regards from Guatemala.

Hi Juan. I'm still learning mate, I think I was zoomed in too much at times. Hopefully the quality of videos will improve as I learn more and more. As for the size v scale, I reckon around 0.65 is good for 1:48, maybe 0.4 for 1:72.

Great video Jamie, just discovered it. I hope you’re enjoying your holiday. I know you talked about it at some point in the video but after viewing the whole thing I tried to go back and pinpoint the moment when you discussed standard versus mini wheels and I just couldn’t find it so I wanted to ask which you would recommend for mostly 148 scale work? I’ll be buying the 0.55 and 0.65 and 0.75 set. Thanks

@@thescalemodellingcafe I understand that what I'm asking about is Galaxy sells MINI Wheels in all the sizes and it also sell standard Wheels. Do not use metal strips to guide the riveter, you can damage his gear !!! There are many non-metallic tapes for this task)).

Tha ka for the review. Doesn't thr rosie tool have different size teeth for each scale? Rather than just different spacing.
@thescalemodellingcafe
@thescalemodellingcafe Жыл бұрын
The size of the wheel makes no difference other than it's easier to get freehand straight lines with a bigger wheel. The spacing of the teeth sets the scale.

Do the “Sizes” or “Pitch spacing” generally go by scale? I’m mostly working with 1/32 scale WWII aircraft. 0.55, 0.65, 0.75 is OK for 1/32 scale, probably using the 0.75mm most frequently?
@catlady8324
@catlady8324 Жыл бұрын
I measured two models’ at 10 rivets per CM. As a “Yank” I figure that to be 100 rivets per mm. 🇺🇸
@thescalemodellingcafe
@thescalemodellingcafe Жыл бұрын
The advantage of the Galaxy sets is you get 3 in a box so they are flexible. I tend to use 0.65mm for 1:48 so anything bigger should do 1:32

I used a riveting tool on my 1/32 Revell Beaufighter...It's an old kit and took a couple weeks to rivet but it looked great before I sprayed it...(I made a video of the build on my channel)...and then I sprayed it with the airbrush and lost all the rivet detail...The panel scribes were still visible but it really put me off riveting old kits...I'm trying it again on the old Revell 1/32 P38 kit at the moment...From some vids I've watched they say to sand after riveting, clean and then drop extra thin in there which I did and they were still visible but I lost the lot after a couple coats of spray paint...Any ideas?
@thescalemodellingcafe
@thescalemodellingcafe Жыл бұрын
I don't sand the rivets most of the time, if I do I just polish them with a very well worn, fine sanding sponge. I never us cement on them. The paint I use are lacquers so they have very fine pigment, and I always use light thin coats.

Depends on how soft the plastic is, and the scale. It's not needed on this 1:48 Hobby Boss Colt, but on 1:72 I think I possibly would. I didn't on the Arma Wildcat but that had raised rivets.
