*The New LOVE in my life* A week or so ago when I posted a behind the scenes picture from a photo shoot a few folks asked about the lighting I was using and also what I was using to power them. So today once we were packing up we filmed this short video to show you exactly that: ***** RX600 Heads and the Godox Battery Pack from ***** REVIEW: Godox LP-800X Portable Battery Pack

Almost bought one of these a few times :) I'm searching for the holy grail of flash lighting - portable, short duration (for freezin da acshun) and with a standard mount for modifiers preferably Bowens as I have a small village of different shaped black tents and woks with holes in the middle :P. One possible recipe is 3 Godox QT (IGBT) monoblocks and an LP-800. The only thing that keeps putting me off is the massive combined weight of that - mainly the 3 lights. I'd need a small mortgage to do the same with Quadras - and my tent village is not compatible :( The Godox Xenergizer is small and portable and takes Bowens modifiers, but the flash duration is way too long.... I'd stick with the 4xSB900s on a quad mount, but you're really limited to brollies and diffuser panels then - and you need a week before the shoot to build the thing on location. But you know - whatver the solution, I'd need at least one light stand, and at least a softbox or diffuser (and if its a diffuser it'll need another couple of stands.. hmm Maybe 3 QTs, an LP800 and a rolling case !

Very flexible piece of kit. Thanks for the review and tips - the bit about swapping the top late around to prevent accidentally draining the charge is very handy.

Owen Lloyd I was thinking to buy the Godox AD360 or the RS-600P, but I haven't decide yet wich one to choose. Now I've seen this video and your comment got my attention as I'm in the same dilemma. You're saying the RS-600P it has the flash duration too long to freeze the action? :( Can you tell me what was your choice in the end? Thank you.

Sorintje Ok so this gets quite complicated.:) The Lencarta Safari II is a development of the Godox xEnergiser (which is also known as the RS-600P). Lencarta usually start off with a Godox product, pull it apart, make some improvements and get Godox to manufacture the improved version for them. In the case of the Safari II, they replaced the dodgy head design with a beefier thing with a full Bowens mount on it. Godox are now selling this version in other markets (outside of the UK). It's flash duration is quite quick - not as quick as say a Lencarta SuperFast (which is based on the Godox QT series) but quicker than traditional studio lights. However! It's a portable light, so you are most likely using it outside. If you want to freeze action outside, using sunlight and flash - you need to do it with a high shutter speed (unless you want the sunlit bits of the image to be blurred). You cannot use flash at high shutter speeds. No. Really. You can't. You can use either High Speed Sync (which pulses the light) or Tail Sync (also called SuperSYnc, Hypersync etc). This uses the tail of a very slow flash light. High speed, sync, tail sync etc are all continuous light -ie the light lasts for the duration of the exposure. High Speed Sync with speedlights is ok, but you waste most of the light and they don't have very much to start with, so your best bet for outside action freezing is Tail Sync, and for this, you need a *slow* flash head, and some triggers that will do it such as the Yongnuo 622 series or PocketWizards if you have money to burn.. Tail Sync fires the shutter after the peak of the flash has been and gone, leaving the light to tail off slowly. Ie it's now just a continuous light that lasts longer than the shutter operation. You can use the Safari/RS600 etc for this and it works ok as long as you understand. I ended up buying an LP-800 to power some shonky old studio lights that have a flash duration measured by calendar. They work great for freezing action outside. I have 3 Lencarta SuperFast 600's for freezing action when there is no ambient light! (usually in a studio setting). er... and I bought a Safari II for general portable light. I guess there is just no one solution for everything with lighting. ...and... tbh - I think I'd probably get the Atom/Witstro/AD360's now for portable light - they're so much smaller, and check out how Jason Lanier uses them on his location shoots - he moves fast :) (search KZbin for him). If you tell me the scenario you're thinking of, I'll try and be more specific :)

Wow.. I've been searching and met with few suggestions and solutions for outdoor battery pack to use with indoor studio strobe. This is lovely and I would suggest it to anyone as the price is not really expensive for a third party power solution. This is great. Really.. Really great.. Thanks for the video.

I feel this video was made specially for me lol! I've been looking for an on location solutions for my FRX400 (I have 4 of those) setup. I couldn't find anything and all that I ever found was either not sufficient or not easily available anywhere in the Entire Country. Since Godox is like our go-to brand and is available even in smaller cities, I can be sure I will get this Battery Pack somewhere at least - and it will work! Thanks a lot man.

+Sheshadri DR Well Glyn said you get around 1200 shots for a 300 watt strobe. Your 2x 400s and 1x 200 = 1000 watts. Guessing around 350 shots for all of your strobes.

Hi! Does it work for fluorescent continuos lights???
@angelisone
@angelisone 6 жыл бұрын
It will work with limited wattage. We use Honda generator for fluorescent or LED (modeling light) strobes. The Paul C. Buff DigiBee DB800 is a hybrid strobe. 320ws (flash) 400 watts modeling (LED) light @5600K If you use fluorescent light, it will cast a green tint of light. So make sure you do white balance. But I find no fluorescent light can produce 400 watts with less weight & size.

@@glyndewis Wow, you replied to someone who asked a question on an 8 year old vid. Crazy Respect Sir! Today, within the last hour, i was put into a position to find out how people power their studio lights outside. Its crazy how nobody, shares this information. You did, and even though this product is nonexistent, it gives me an idea of total flash count from other devices! Thanks For This Video 😁

We have RX600 heads and I wanted to be mobile too, without the need to buy Quadra, which is nice, but expensive :-) We bought 2000W pure sine inverter, with one RX600, it works like a charm, but connecting 2 lights, it does not work - it boots the lights and I fear the lights could be damaged that way. So now - here comes my question - have you tried two RX600 heads with the tested battery pack? I really like its relative compactness, carry bag, etc., in comparison to our hand-made solution (which was not cheap either).

I"ve got to be honest. If photographers realized just how EASY it is to build a battery pack, they'd probably just make their own. It takes about 20 minutes to build one. Cost? Under $200 american. Difference? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Hell you can even get a waterproof case for a DIY system. This is one of the worst screw overs in the world of photography.
@AelielAT
@AelielAT 7 жыл бұрын
Sure you can... but it would be a lead acid battery that is much less powerful or much heavier. Just a lithium battery of that size is 400-600$ on Amazon or ebay.
