Teoh, I enjoy your videos tremendously. I love your book reviews and have been purchasing my books through your links. Your reviews are way more helpful than someone's biased opinion you find on Amazon. I like how you go through a book so we can actually see the contents. That's much appreciated since I have purchased a few duds by relying on comments that were 5 star reviews. Your tutorials are much appreciated too. I took up art to save my life. I have a neurological disease and was wasting away physically, psychologically and spiritually. I'm a beginner and since I've been disabled for the past 18 years, I'm on a fixed income so I don't have a ton of extra money to spend, therefore, it must be spent wisely. I even just had major back surgery (my 18th overall) 2 weeks ago and I lost some momentum but I plan to pick up in a few weeks where I left off once the real healing begins. Again, thank you for giving back to the community. BTW, if you do wind up with any duplicates, I'll gladly take them off of your hands, haha. Take care! John Sacco

Thanks. I've bought books that weren't what I expected before. That's why I make book reviews like this. With artbooks, it makes more sense to show what's inside.

@z4k I am so sorry, Tom. My dad had that so I know what you're going through. My condition is called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). It's the most painful condition known to man and I can honestly second that. I've had it for 18 years and it's caused me to go to some pretty bad places in my head. There's no escaping this shit. It stays with you 24/7. Yeah, it can calm down, but when there's a flair-up, holy cow! I literally can't function. I lost a lot through this disease. My wife bailed after 20 years and I lost my ability to continue my many athletic pursuits. I can't work. But I can't focus on what I've lost, though. I can only focus on what I can do with my life this very second. And that's hopefully, writing you an encouraging email. I think I've had just about every type of procedure out there to kill this pain. What really helped was biofeedback and learning how to breathe. If I can control my parasympathetic nervous system, then I'm in a lot better shape than otherwise. Where do you live? I'm in Orange County, CA. I have learned from experience that it can be very helpful when fellow sufferers unite. I know it's true because I belong to another fellowship out there that has saved millions of lives. You can probably figure out which one it is hahha. It was another gift of this disease. Message me back and let me know unless you're too strapped for time, I understand. If that's the case, all my best to you, Tom, and Godspeed.

Very neat hand lettering book. I really like all the different styles, and how it opens up a persons own creativity. I feel this book is of great value in many ways.

I may pick this up along with the last recommendation you gave me to get into drawing. I have been wanting to try to lettering and this seems like a great choice. I like how it's more about the fun of it rather than "this is how it's done - do it this way".

Thanks Teoh! I could use some help with my lettering. I usually scan illustrations that need lettering and add the lettering in the computer, but it would be better if I could do it myself. Looks like a fun book!

Wow. I'm surprised you have one of her books. She's an author and artist here in the Philippines. I have quite a lot of her lettering pads (I use them for sketching) and I also use her watercolour travel journal containing Canson paper.

Excellent book. 😄 That looks fun for the lettering enthusiasts. Thanks for the great review. 👍On a slightly different note I would have to learn most of the cursive form of English again. All I can really remember is signing my name in cursive for checks, doctors etc lol. I've never really used cursive, just print. To me cursive is more of luxury than a utility. Do they teach the cursive form of English in Singapore schools?
@teohyc6 жыл бұрын
I don't think we teach calligraphy in schools here. It's something you have to learn on your own
@higherground7116 жыл бұрын
That's the way it'll be in the US soon enough. I agree with it. Kids have enough to learn as it is. Cursive which is basically a luxury isn't really necessary.

Really? In my country everyone learns cursive at primary school !

Very sad James, I'm appalled that the schools no longer teach cursive, and that millions of young people in just a few short years, will not be able to read our founding documents, they will have to rely on what 'government' TELLS you is in there, you won't be able to read it for yourself... this is sad and in my opinion very dangerous. It would serve you well to learn cursive and to teach it to your children and grandchildren... as I have taught mine.

Elaine Magliacane Perhaps the line, "Kids have enough to learn as it is." can be translated as, Political Correctness being taught in schools is more important than learning the basics: reading WRITING,arithmetic. I guess printing is less time consuming than writing cursive. Sad indeed. Maybe I misread the whole thing.

Nice review, Teoh. So many artistic things can be done with lettering. NOTE: I just received a book I ordered on Amazon titled Pen and Ink, Contemporary Artists, Timeless Techniques. I don't know whether you have this book or have seen it, but I think it's quite good and might be worth a review.
