Finding your channel was a godsend for me. I kept watching all of these other 'guru' type curly girls that were just getting sponsers and raving about absolutely every product they showcased. I spent SO much money on their 'recommendations' that did absolutely junk for my hair. It makes me so mad/sad to walk into my bathroom and see the plethora of money ive wasted on the seemingly hundreds of worthless hair products. You are the FIRST person who i have found that differentiates the types of hair and warns against products that you personally love possibly not working for other hair types. And then you offer alternatives as well. You are so amazing and so THOROUGH. I watched a bunch of your videos and took notes. The first round of new products i bought based off of your recs worked perfectly. I am so relieved and feel so confident in my bouncy curls.. Something i thought I would NEVER experience!

Wow....I mean, your comment just brought tears to my eyes. You didn't have to take the time to write me about this, but you did. Thank you. It's my pleasure, really. And I'm just so thrilled to hear things are looking up for you. Re your bathroom full of products, either hang on to them and try them later on in your journey (within a year) to see if using them different makes a difference for you; or sell them on one of the CG friendly swap sites on FB. People love getting to try products for a discount! I'm so glad you're feeling confident and beautiful. Makes my darn day!!!

Jessicurl Spiralicious has absolutely saved my butt. I'm a medium-fine low porosity type 2, and I'm allergic to aloe and gluten. That knocks out an absolute TON of curly girl products for my hair type and texture. I use about a quarter to half dollar sized amount for my waist length hair. We desperately need more allergen-friendly and/or no protein products in the curly community...

I LOVE JessiCurl Spiralicious! My go to right now is Spiralicious over top of my DevaCurl Volumizing Foam. I don't know what it is about that mixture but my hair LOVES it. I was outside for 6 hours on July 4th in ridiculous humidity and off and on rainstorms here in Alabama. I was shocked to see my hair looked just like it did when I fixed it earlier in the day. No frizz, no droopy sad waves/curls, and beautiful shine. I was sold from that point on!

Great review. I really appreciate your knowledge of ingredients and how the affect the hair. I just bought the spiralicious last week after watching one of your videos. It's really strange the way it is cream. But it gives me really bouncy full curls. I actually don't get a cast at all, I guess because my hair so dry and porous. Can't wait to try out more from this line. I also really appreciate the no scent option for someone with severe allergies.

Also important to note: jessicurl switched their preservative in their spiralicious awhile ago for a short time. This caused the spiralicious to have brown streaks in it! So after watching many of your videos about this product I ordered from a Canadian vendor and they sent me the product which was brown! I was confused because I didn’t think it had flax seed in it. Then I saw a video about it being white and was even more confused. After a bit of research I found this article: www.jessicurl.com/posts/important-information-about-spiralicious-styling-gel So if your spiralicious has Phenoxyethanol as the last ingredient send it back and get a refund!!

My hair is an A-hole too with Confident Coils. Gosh I love that you said that!!! I could never figure out why it didn't work for me. However, it's a holy grail for my curlier/coarser haired son, so it never goes to waste. Your hair sound very similar to mine in what it likes & doesn't like. I just ordered a bunch of samples and eagerly awaiting them to arrive. Basically, I ordered a sample of everything because frankly, finding fragrance-free AND gluten-free products with little protein is...miraculous. I hope my hair loves these products! My question is what is the purpose of the Confidence Coils, when the Spiralicious gel is so similar. Of course I ordered both to try but now, seeing them on screen, I realize the Coils lotion might be unnecessary. Thoughts?
@alysonlupo6 жыл бұрын
Coils is much lighter, less enhancing, and gives less hold. I know it's recommended for wavies, but I honestly would think it would be a better product for the 3c-4c curly girls.

I tried Jessicurl styling products before Spiralicious existed and they all left my hair a stringy mess, which, I assume, was because they all contained glycerin (most DevaCurl products have the same issue for me). It’s good to see there’s at least one product without it, so perhaps it’s time to give it another try.

I like many curly hair brands, but all (absolutely all) of them have one disadvantage (just for me personally): products have very sweet smell, like coconut(very often) or like candy ... It seems for me like it's classic combination: curly hair product -> a lot of coconut oil inside -> sugary coconut'y smell. Well, that's OK, and the products are great on my hair, but it breaks my heart because GOD I HATE SWEET SCENTS , I want my hair smell like something more fresh, floral, or mossy ... I also use only fresh/mossy perfume and it doesn't fit well with sweet scent of products on my hair. So I just felt in love with this line - just because this brand is the first one I ever met who gave us a choice of scents and OMG they made this adorable lemon+lavender scent! I think I am not the only one who are tired of sweet coconut-y smells. But anyway THANK YOU Jessicurl - this brand and this blog have changed my life! :D

The Spiralicious gel is at the top of my current product wishlist. I live in NC which means I've still got a month/month and a half of high humidity to deal with. My hair LOVES Polyquaternium-69 in this climate and the only gel I've been able to find locally that has it (Got2b Ultra Glued) also has denatured alcohol. It's lower on the list and I do my best to counteract it but I still feel guilty, lol.

Thanks for your great video💕, I love the way you share your knowledge with us. I hope you can help me out with this question. I'm going on vacation to the beach, and I need an advice how to deal with my waves 〰️while actually playing in the waves 🌊. Curly penny gave me the advice to cover my hair in conditioner and do braids while swimming 🏊, which is a good idea cause you don't dry out your hair. But her curl pattern is much stronger than my 2c hair, so I don't know about braiding. Do you have another suggestion for me, or do you agree with this technique? Thanks for your help, and all the best for your and your sweet family 😘
@alysonlupo6 жыл бұрын
I think that's great advice! If your hair is going to get soaked anyway, you'll likely end up having to restyle, at least a little. I tend to just soak mine with a water/conditioner mixture from a spray bottle before jumping in the waves or pool. Flooding the hair cuticle with good clean water before you swim will help prevent it from drying out too much. But just have fun! A little time spent in the surf won't send you back to day 1.
@missbehavesclass64056 жыл бұрын

They're definitely my two favorites. The Jessicurl one seems a bit heavier, while the Curl Junkie one almost has a fluffy texture to it. I'd say use up what you have and then try the other. I'll be curious to hear what YOU think!

I notice you mention your hair hates certain ingredients. Did you keep a journal about your use of different products to figure out what doesn't work for you?

Yep! Use the Evernote app. It's amazing.

I've got a question on the Jessicurl Spiralicious styling gel, which I've heard you mention several times before. I'm interested in this one so I thought I'd look up the ingredients online, and it says it contains alcohol. I thought alcohol is a no no for the CG method? And I'm not talking about cetyl alcohol, but it just says plain: alcohol.

It's a great product. And I've noticed that before too, and just decided to go with it. Doesn't dry my hair out at all.

Question! I started curly girl like 2 weeks ago. And i absolutely hate refreshing. It looks terrible and frizzy and my head is itchy. What do you recommend I do? I dont want to spend a lot of money. Is it terribly to wash my hair everyday? (Cowashing)
@alysonlupo6 жыл бұрын
You can definitely wash your hair every day. Although be sure to clarify every few weeks or so if you're cowashing consistently--buildup can sneak up on you. Your scalp should never itch!

LaVida Hi, I don’t know what your hair texture and porosity are, so I can only tell you what works for me. I started CG method 3 months ago. (I have fine, low porosity, thin on top, 2b-3a waves/curls. I have to be careful of weighing down my curls, and the curl straightens out pretty readily. Still working on that. 🙂 ). Real Life + Curly Girl’s hair is actually pretty similar to mine. 💝 For itchy scalp, I found that I need to vigorously rub/lightly scratch with my fingernails, my scalp once or twice a day. I used to brush my hair, and I love the feeling of that on my scalp. My scalp missed the brushing! Also, there are some products that can irritate/make a scalp itch. I found that 2 common products in the cheap conditioners and gels irritate my scalp and make it burn. They’re called “the itchy M’s,” they are Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. Whew! They’re in the Suave conditioners and the cheap gels. As for looking terrible, I believe everyone who starts the CG method goes through this stage. I did. Between your hair recovering from silicones and SLS, conditioning and repairing it, learning what new products work or don’t work for YOUR hair, and your hair recovering its natural curl pattern, it can be REALLY frustrating! I hope you got through this stage all right. There’s definitely a learning curve. 😉 Good luck! I hope you’re happier with your hair now than you were when you wrote this.

If you use a product and it doesn’t work for you, do you wash it out right away and start over?
@alysonlupo6 жыл бұрын
Good question! No, I suck it up and have a bad hair and hope it gets better. Sometimes I get lucky and wake up with awesome second day hair b/c the products(s) needed time to soak into my medium/low porosity hair. So then I know it might work for me next time if I just use less. Hope that helps!

That's actually what I styled with for this video! I LOVE it, but find it has less hold than Spiralicious. Devacurl review is coming out soon. It's ready to go, just need to hit that 'publish' button.....!

I didn't! It didn't come in the package Jessicurl sent me, but I did order and try a sample packet of it a while back. It was too heavy under Spiralicious for me, but I suspect now I'd like it on it's own. Will have to get my hands on it another time!

How do you know if you have too much protein in your hair?
@xfortunesquex6 жыл бұрын
AFAIK, if you're doing everything "right", and your normally soft hair starts getting soggy or very brittle, that can be a sign of too much protein. I noticed that proteins make mine tangle a lot more easily, and it just felt straw-like.

Jess, I have to admit I'm perplexed by your comment. While I'm thrilled you're here and interested in my reviews, I am based in the U.S., and so you can imagine most of my reviews will be on U.S. based product lines. I would absolutely LOVE to review products more easily accessible to you, but I really don't know what's available to you (save for Boucleme and Trepadora, which I've mentioned in previous videos are great options). Why don't you give me a list of product lines you're curious about and I'll see what I can do to get my hands on some and review them for my you and my UK-based audience.
@alysonlupo6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I've also reviewed Only Curls as well. Flora & Curl is on the way.

I am really interested in your reviews as all UK KZbinrs review products for very curly/thick/afro hair. I haven't found anyone yer who reviews products that are aimed towards fine/wavy hair except for you which is why it can be frustrating. You hair is similar to my own so the products you use would be perfect if they were easier to get hold of. I think that the US is miles ahead of the UK when it comes to curly hair. We have like 3 curly hair salons in the entire UK!
