I've had my eye on this machine for several months. I watched your video a couple of months ago, and it helped pushed me over the edge! Jackie at Whole Latte Love was very helpful answering my questions, I ordered one, and it arrived last Thursday. WOW...this thing is great! My wife was initially skeptical ("We're spending how much on a coffee maker?!?!"), but it just took a flat white as good as any we've had in New Zealand to win her over. It's been great fun trying the different coffees and features. I just rewatched your video and it gave me some programming tips that cleared up some questions I was having. One remaining question...it appears that the programming from the app (coffee specifications, etc.) is not transferring to the machine. Am I missing something, or do the various drinks need to be separately set up on the machine? Thanks!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi j, Thanks you for your patronage and your kind comments! I forwarded them to Jackie - always good to recognize the efforts of our knowledgeable staff. The GIGA 6 is as good as it gets. The parallel preparation of espresso and milk brings a new level of quality to finished drinks like the flat white which happens to be one of my favorites. Great to hear you found it as good as what you had in New Zealand. Now if someone could just decide once and for all if it was the Kiwis or Aussies who created it! On the app programming... Drinks created on the app cannot be permanently transferred to the machine. You would need to program them on the machine separate from the app. Glad to hear your wife came around. As the smart ones know happy wife = happy life! Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage Hi Marc, thanks for the response...I'll just set them up on the machine as well so I can use either the app or the machine and get consistent results. And I don't think the Kiwis and Aussies will ever agree on who had it first! Another question...the instructions call for a daily milk system cleaning AND disassembling the milk spout and cleaning it daily. I've noticed that the components of the milk spout are really clean after running the system cleaning. Is it overkill to do both daily? Would it be OK to disassemble and separately clean the milk spout, say, weekly? Thanks! Joe

Hi a, Thanks for the question. All machine types do well so long as you feed with good water and do maintenance as described by manufacturer. We run a factory certified repair facility for Gaggia automatics. Our lead tech there regularly sends me pics of drink counters on Gaggia machines. Not unusual to see >15,000 brew cycles on machines that come in for service. I've had a Jura ENA 8 in my home for ~3 years now. I'm in the neighborhood of 7,000 brew cycles with nothing more than routine maintenance and have had no issues. Marc

Hi JL, Thanks for the comment and looking forward to seeing you video! Great to hear your J9 is still doing it’s thing 10 years in. Take good care of these machines and they are very reliable. We regularly get photos from customers with product counters showing more than 15,000 brew cycles on automatic coffee machines. The machine does not have a specific hot chocolate making function. But, they make excellent hot milk/milk froth. Add chocolate to that. In the menu you could setup the milk/milk froth how you like including amount of each and temperature in ten levels and then rename to something like: “Milk for Chocolate” Marc

Thanks for the great tour of this machine, Marc. Can you help me understand how this machine is measuring/preparing espresso? For example, the default settings in the machine for "espresso" and "doppio" make no sense to me and lead me to wonder what is going on. For *both*, they are set at 4/5 for "strength" (does that equate to about 13-14 grams of coffee grounds?). The only difference between the two is the volume setting - 1.5 oz for the espresso and 3 oz for the doppio. How can that be? You can't double an espresso without also doubling the weight of the coffee. To my understanding, this is actually a (roughly) "double" shot for the "espresso" setting and a lungo "double" shot for the "doppio" setting. Similarly, if I select the "2 X espresso" setting, is the machine just splitting the portafilter one time? So then if I had preselected "full strength" (5/5 of the coffee bean icons), am I taking a "double" shot and parsing it out into two "single" shots, or will the machine actually double the espresso order by filling/brewing/emptying the portafilter twice? I totally understand that, at the end of the day, what really matters is if you like the taste of what comes out when you push the button, but I also want to know what the machine is doing. Thanks!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, Here's how things work when requesting various drinks: Espresso is a single shot vs. doppio is a double shot with two grind cycles - in this case we are doubling the grind cycles, not the volume of water, so it is a strong shot 2x espresso is usually brewed into two glasses vs. doppio is one - this is optional. Espresso Typically 1.5 ounces - 1 grind cycle into 1 glass Program max = 2.5 ounces + uses PEP 2x Espresso Typically 1.5 ounces x 2 grind cycles, so 3 ounces in 2 glasses (or one) Program max = 2.5 ounces + uses PEP Espresso doppio Typically 3 ounces - 2 grind cycles into 1 glass (in this case, the second grind would be at 1.5 ounces) Program max = 5 ounces, volume is split in half (in this case, the second grind would be at 2.5 ounces) Hope that helps! Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage Hi again, Marc. Something still seemed odd to me (taste-wise), so I decided to run a simple experiment: I brewed a single espresso, a 2X espresso and a doppio, each into 3 different cups. The ground setting was 4/5 for each. The volumes were 1.5 oz, 3 oz and 3 oz, respectively. I then weighed the grounds from each order. I got 27 grams for the espresso, *again* 27 grams for the 2X espresso, and 51 grams for the doppio. (These are all wet grounds, so I understand the higher weights.) Also, one could easily hear only the single grind cycle for the espresso and 2x espresso, and the double grind cycle for the doppio. So it appears that my initial intuition was correct -- that the machine doesn't really double the order as much as it just dilutes it as it doubles only the final volume. This appears inconsistent with the description you gave. Am I still confused or do you suspect that my machine may be malfunctioning? It's brand new... Otherwise, I think that calling these orders "2X" is inaccurate and misleading on the part of Jura.

I've been looking for a multi-bean-to-cup automatic coffee machine for a while. There seem to be just five options that tick most of the boxes for me, but this one has a great plus point of 25% mix steps which no other seems to have. Unfortunately the price is the only down side - both DeLonghi and Siemens have machines with dual grinders, at a lower price, and the Siemens ticks the "true flat white" box, though it's not possible to mix the two kinds of beans. There is a price difference of over £2000, but I can understand why when I compare the two, as the Jura's grinders seem to be of a better kind. Melitta and Miele have multi bean but single grinder machines - three feeds on the Miele - but once again lacks the advantages of the Jura. The DeLonghi, Melitta and Miele may not pass my "true flat white" test either. Unfortunately I can't see how I will afford one for a while.

So I've been watching a lot of your videos, awesome videos by the way, I'm kind of stuck between getting an automatic likeva gaggia babila or a mid range jura vs something like a mid to high end Breville ... is there a taste and quality difference between the two espressos? Is the espresso " better" or more "authentic" between a semi automatic vs automatic?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi AG, Thanks for the comment and question. There is a trade-off of potential quality for convenience when going from a semi-auto to a super auto. I say "potential" as producing consistently better espresso from a semi-automatic takes effort, skill and knowledge. Making consistently very good espresso on super-autos takes pressing a button. Helps to send the grind size as fine as possible, turn temp to highest setting and use highest strength setting. As far as authentic... depends on what you consider authentic. I've spent a fair amount of time in Italy. Most would consider an espresso you get there as authentic. To be very honest, the espresso in Italy was underwhelming. It's treated as more of a commodity there. Other regions have taken it to the specialty level. Hope that helps. Marc

For the Americano: does it always mix the espresso and water internally? My friend bought a Giga 6 from you and his machine will switch from espresso to clear water going into the cup. My machine never switches to completely clear water. How does your machine do it? Jura was stumped when I called them.

Hi Chris, Thanks for the question. I've seen it happen both ways on the Giga 6. Sometimes you see relatively clear water and other times the water added has some residual coffee. I believe what is happening is residual espresso is discoloring the added water and has less or more affect depending on specific programming of the Americano like amount of espresso, amount of water, strength setting, etc. Marc

IMO it's the best bang for the buck and has excellent UI IMO for the $$. It's less than 1/3 the price of Giga 6 and does what I need on my budget like true Americanos, true double shot flat whites, ability to save 4 custom versions of a drink, milk/espresso prep order flipped as appropriate for drinks being made, more milk drink options than most... Some online comments raise reliability concerns on the new Giga 6. Does whole latte love have any views on reliability and/or mess?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Don, Thanks for the comment and question. When I first started using Jura machines about 10 years ago I was a little concerned that their brew units were not removable. Brew units are removable in machines from most other manufacturers. Since then I've used many Jura machines and never had an issue with a brew unit. I've had a Jura ENA Micro 90 as my home machine for more than 3 years and an estimated 6,000 brew cycles with no problems. In our opinion reliability comes down to proper maintenance of the machine. Most common problems are caused by water which produces scale in the machine. In Jura machines, use the water filter as directed and scale is not a problem and the machine never has to be descaled. Another common issue is poor milk frothing. That's almost always the result of not properly cleaning the milk frothing components. Cleaning the milk components on the Giga 6 is highly automated and doesn't require much user intervention. Be aware of bean selection. Do not use dark roasted beans with visible surface oils as they can clog the grinder. Hope that helps! Marc

I purchased the Giga 6 and it’s my 3rd Jura product. Jura had to replace my first one...I’ll chalk it up to being brand new and working kinks out. I’ve noticed, however, that I get a large amount of dry grounds accumulating at the back of the drip tray, right by the sensors. I get a mound back there whenever I empty the tray. It’s so much that the grounds end up accumulating behind the tray and preventing me from pushing it all the way back in. I have to vacuum the grounds out with a handheld vacuum just to keep it clean! This has happened with both of my Giga 6 machines. Have you had similar issues or complaints?

Hi Chris, Some spill is normal. That’s why there is a cover over the drip tray. I have not heard of accumulation to the extent the drip tray can not be pushed back in. I have a Jura ENA Micro 90 at home for 2+ years used for 6-7 cups per day and there’s always a bit of grounds on the tray cover. Marc

Whole Latte Love Hi Mark- thanks for the reply. Any way I can send you a pic? I wonder if it’s a fault with the Giga 6 design. The accumulation is crazy. Nothing like my Z6 had.

Hey Marc I got a question. I am attaining 165*F out from brew group of my espresso gaggia. I am wondering if that the reason why my shots are kind of sour. Also how to fix that issue. What is the temperature that should come out of the brew?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi B, How are you measuring that temperature? I ask, because short of using a Scace device: caffewerks.com/products/scace-device-rental? It’s very difficult to get accurate brew temp readings. If your shots are sour that is a symptom of low brew temp. How old is your machine? Has it been descaled regularly? Lack of maintenance can cause heating issues due to scale build up. Could also be a faulty thermostat. Marc

Whole Latte Love I see. I was using a food thermometer. The machine is 4 years and I personally do regular maintenance every week back flush and since I use the BTw filter I am not descaling at this time.

how do you clean the milk system?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi B., Thanks for the question. The Giga 6 comes with a 2 compartment cup for automatic deep cleaning of the milk system. Detach milk tube from the supply and attach to the cup. Cleaning solution is drawn in from one compartment while the rinse is captured in the other compartment. It's automatic. Full milk system cleaning details on pages 36-38 of the Giga 6 manual here: us.jura.com/-/media/global/pdf/manuals-na/Home/GIGA-6/download_manual_giga_6_us.pdf?la=en&hash=C2517CF722C58B2EE2A31D5A591EC5F343D30E9C&em_force=true Hope that helps! It's better than the Breville Oracle Touch?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi AA, Thanks for the question. The Giga 6 is the top of the line in super-automatic machines - just the best there is! The Oracle Touch is a more hands on product. Lot's of user involvement to make a drink. The Giga 6 is about convenience. Push a button and you can make 2 milk based espresso beverages simultaneously. Plus mix beans from 2 bean hoppers in a single drink and a whole lot more. If someone offered me a choice between the BOT and Giga 6 I'd take the Giga 6. Marc

As usual with Jura. Milk will be Luke warm. Jura can never get this right.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi RA, The machine has very precise control of milk temperatures with 10 levels. In cup milk temps are subject to a number of variables like source milk, ambient and starting cup temperature. Machines are designed to heat milk into the sweet zone. Temperatures which yield the most apparent sweetness due to heating. Heat milk too much and apparent sweetness quickly fades. That's why properly trained professional baristas froth milk to 130F/54C to 140F/60C. A well made traditional cafe latte should be at a temperature which allows for quick consumption. That said, I know many people expect a hotter drink. IMO it's mostly people coming drinking straight coffee. Milk heated to that temperature would be near or at scalding and have no increase in apparent sweetness. Professional tasters would reject a drink with milk that's too hot. Marc
@rdalcroft3934
@rdalcroft3934 4 жыл бұрын
Whole Latte Love I did say Luke warm? Never mentioned scalding. And I am going from experience. I’m on my 4th Jura machine now. And every time a new one comes out. I stupidly expect them to have fixed this issue. Which they don’t. If I run a cup of hot milk through the system. I should not be able to hold my finger in the milk. That is below temp. I should not be able to gulp down a cup of cappuccino in one go right after making it. That’s all I’m saying. And new customers should be made aware of this when you give a review of a machine. I don’t ever hear you point out any negative points on the machine. But you call it a review. Not a review really. Just a demonstration?? Don’t get me wrong. I am the biggest fanboy of Jura Machines. I love mine. And I keep buying the next one. Because everything else is great. But the milk think has always been my one major gripe.
