I just returned a Jura Z6. I had it about a year and 1/2. Maybe did like 2-3 cups coffee a day, used a claryl filter, never skipped cleanings- always maintained it perfectly. I use the dry lavazza beans The grinder broke, beans wouldn't go through, then it ground them and sent it up the ground coffee tube, all the sensors started acting weird telling me to dump the drip tray, when it was completely empty. I loved that machine though when it worked. I'm worried that this S8 isn't as robust as the Z6, that failed early, but Costco also sells this one- so I'm thinking of trying it out. Have you had any issues with the grinders going out in these? Or is there some sort of maintenance that needs to be done with the grinder part?

I've had my Jura S8 now for 16 months, and it is an excellent and versatile coffee maker. And you provide an excellent description in the video. But I have a question. On full strength (i.e., five full coffee beans), each of my coffee "pucks" made and deposited weighs 28g - 30g, not the 16g, you mention a couple of times in this video. Am I missing something? Of course, the used puck I measure has some moisture in it from the coffee made, but that wouldn't add 12g - 14g to get to the weights I am measuring. Thanks again, and an excellent machine.

Hi Marc. Two questions please: 1. How do I move the bean strength to a lighter mode? I tried moving across in the direction of lower bean strength and it seemed like nothing happened. And 2. I am not sure how to pull off the milk foam frother in order to clean it properly. Otherwise, I am so happy to have coffee again after a four month time in which I had to walk up to a local cafe or drive through a famous Seattle coffee emporium. Thank you. Will check later.

Hi Marc, Love your informative video on the E8. I recently purchased a refurb one based on your review. My question is what settings do "You" use for making a flat white on the E8? Volume, time for milk, and position of the fine frother. Thank you and the Whole Latte Family. Tony
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, Thanks for your comment and question. Here's a link to a video I did last week on the E8. It links to where I'm making a flat white on the machine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6DNgainoLZ1nKM When I make a flat white I use a double shot of espresso of 2oz/60ml. E8 is cool as you can do 2 different froth types. Time for milk depends on milk type and milk froth used. Personally, I'd start with the frother lever at the 3 o'clock position for the majority of the drink and then switch to 12 o'clock to put a short layer of airier froth on top. Hope that helps! Marc

Marc, I am currently one of "those individuals" that waste money ($$$$) by going through the drive thru every day to purchase my low fat skinny mocha cappuccino. As I do not see my cappuccino habits ending anytime soon I am looking into purchasing a machine. I love the Jura S8 because I do not see myself learning to master the technique as you have anytime soon, so the semiautomatic machines are probably out of the question. My worries are how do the products taste in comparison to a big chain coffee shop, and how much can I tailor/modify a drink with a automatic machine once I learn what taste I enjoy?? One of the biggest complaints I have read about since I've starting looking into the various machines is the temperatures of the drinks is not nearly that of when a person purchases through a company that is using a $10,000 machine. Is there a noticeable difference in temperature? Is it something a person adapts to overtime? Finally, because I have only begun to research the machines I have yet to discover the best time to purchase a new machine with a savings. Can you offer any advice? Black Friday is right around the corner. Also, does your company offer any military discounts on machines. Thank you for your many videos that provide helpful information to those of us who lack knowledge.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth, Thanks for the questions! So, depending on which big chain shop you frequent they may be using a super-auto machine to make your espresso - most Starbucks use commercial super auto machines. What you'll get in a home machine is the ability to adjust your grind size, coffee dose and volume to suit your taste. In commercial use a super-auto is set and forget with one grind size and dose used for everyone. You'll get more control and access to any beans you want! With a machine like the S8 you can adjust the milk froth density as you like. And, as you realized the long-term cost is a heck of a lot less. As to temperature... Most all super-auto home machines produce a milk froth in the 130-150F range. Heating milk increase it's apparent sweetness. 140F is the Goldilocks temp for sweetness. IMO some temp complaints come from those who expect a latte or cappuccino to be the same temp as a standard drip coffee and that should never be the case. The milk would be near scalding if frothed that hot. We have many ex baristas who work here. Most started in chain shops then moved on to specialty cafes. I always ask them: How many customers at the chain shops even know there's espresso in the latte they're ordering? Typical response is less than 50% with many saying it's in the 25% range. To those customers it's coffee with milk and some froth on top. If you have not, I urge you to try a cappuccino at a specialty cafe - bonus if that cafe roasts their own beans in-house as it's a definite sign they probably have a clue. If they do it right, the drink you get will be cooler than what you get at most chain shops. I'm not trying to tell anyone what they should like. If you like it really hot then have it really hot. But I will say flavor perception is much better at cooler temps - the closer you get to body temp the more flavor you will taste. It's why bad coffee is served super hot and bad beer is served super cold - it's harder to taste the imperfections. As for purchase times... We typically have some very good offers on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You always get 2% in rewards with purchase and at the moment I think there are some extra bonuses on top of that. We do not currently have an military discounts. Wish we did as I have a daughter in the Coast Guard and she wants to get her sister a bean to cup machine for xmas. Hope that helps. Great review! Can you tell me the max temp you can get milk at? My currently Jura won't do much more than 120
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, Thanks for the comment and question. I do not have a solid max milk temp to report for the S8. Most manufacturers tune their machines to produce a froth between 130-150F out of the spout. Good pro baristas froth to ~140F as this is where milk gains the most apparent sweetness due to heating. Marc

Thanks for the great review Marc, you have sold me on this coffee machine! My question is, what is the best type of milk to use, or more to the point what is not recommended? I am from Australia if that helps, for the terminology of types of milk.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, You are welcome for the review! Honestly not sure how milk is classified in Australia. Here in US we prefer what's called whole milk. The whole part referring to fat content. Milk with other fat content levels can be used as well but as fat content is reduced so is creaminess and mouth feel. A step down from whole fat is 2% (referring to fat content), then 1% and finally skim which has no fat. Hope that helps! Marc

Mary Borg My pleasure! I do not have a setup video for the machine. It is very straightforward and Jura documentation is excellent. I do advise using a water filter as recommended by Jura. Doing so totally eliminates need to descale. Also, for espresso start at finest grind setting and highest strength setting and scale back from there if getting bitter flavors. Hope that helps! Cheers, Marc

Since this is a complicated all in one machine, when parts do wear off or things break, how do I repair it without paying through the nose? Do you ship a diagnostics, repair and maintenance manual with this, or can you teach a customer to do this if there's no service shops around?

Hi Marc. Great review. We have done our research and are going to purchase the S8 soon but can’t decide whether to choose the silver or chrome. I know they’re both plastic and easy to clean with the included cloth but I just wanted to know how resistant the chrome is from scratches. Do you have any insights on this? Thanks!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi AS, Thanks for the comment and question. S8 is a fine machine! Chrome is relatively scratch resistant. Take something sharp to it and it will scratch however. If that's a big concern you may want to choose the silver as minor scratches are less likely to show. Marc

Hi tt, You are welcome! There are a few super-automatics with programmable turn on times. That's not a feature of the S8. But, here's the thing... Hi Marc. I have 2 questions for you please. I have a Jura S8 machine now. I love Illy coffee, so I use Illy beans, monoarabica Brazil. I don't get much crema. Is that because there is no robusta in that coffee? And my second question is, a cappuccino made by a barista usually has espresso first, milk second. (The S8 does milk first, coffee 2nd). But you say that is the right way to do a flat white, espresso first, milk second. So that is a bit confusing to me. Help? Thanks
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi FM, Thanks for the questions. 100% Arabica coffees tend to produce less crema than those containing some Robusta like many italian style bean blends. Here's one of my favorites of that variety Maromas Orphea: www.wholelattelove.com/products/maromas-orphea-whole-bean-espresso It gets excellent customer reviews 4.5/5 stars in ~300 reviews and works very well in automatic machines. Milk order prep can be confusing! On super autos the prep order is always milk firts when making a latte macchiato. Doing the milk first allows it to separate a bit so when espresso is brewed it layers between the different milk densities in a taller cup. Barista will always do a cappuccino with espresso first and then milk, same with lattes and flat whites. On automatic machine doing the milk firts for a cappucino allows for a bit of milk separation in a shorter/wider cup. That allows the head of airy milk foam of the traditional style cappuccino to develop. Marc

Hey marc. I liked the look of this machine but it was a bit out of my price range. I love that it does the milk stuff on its own though cause I don't want to have to use a steam thing if I can avoid it. Are there some lower budget alternative bean to cup machines that can handle milk coffee drinks like flat whites on their own? Thanks.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Riftis, Thanks for the question. Have a look at the Gaggia Babila which does have a flat white. More info and videos here: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-babila-one-touch-coffee-and-espresso-machine The Babila uses a detachable milk carafe which automatically cleans the milk components with steam after use so you can put the carafe back in the fridge ready to go for next time. One of my favorite features on the Babila (it's my daily driver) is the SPS flow control dial near the coffee spouts. Turn down the flow rate when making espresso and turn it up for a regular coffee. In addition the Babila has a lot more metal on the outer case than most Jura machines. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions! I see you left a comment on the Jura D6 video which I'll answer there. Marc

Hey Marc! Have you seen or heard about the Milk froth not getting hot enough with the Jura S8? When reading all the reviews on this machine. Everyone talks about the milk not being hot enough. Are you able to increase the temperature so that it can get hot? Thanks so much!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Emma, I've used the S8 extensively. Here's another video I did on the machine a week or so ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/roPVk6qje7dsndE IMO the milk temp is what it should be. The machine heats milk to 130-145F which is the temperature where milk gains the most apparent sweetness due to heating. Go to a high-end specialty cafe and that's the temp a well trained barista will froth to. I'm guessing most of the reviews commenting on milk temps come from people who expect a milk-based espresso beverage to have a similar temp as a standard cup of coffee. Perhaps they are newer to milk based beverages or have had them poorly made at mass-market chain coffee shops. Marc

Hi PTL, Most all automatic machines can make an American by making an espresso and then adding hot water from the machine - in most you can program the amount of hot water to add. It will be a two step process until you get to high-end Jura machines which make true Americano with one button press. What is the life expectancy of the water filter? Also is there an actual descaler option for maintenance on the screen?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Hi A, Thanks for the questions. If you do not use the water filter the machine has a descale cycle and will prompt you when it's time to descale. Frequency depends on your source water hardness and how much you use the machine. The machine comes with a water hardness test. Result of the test is entered into the machine. Life expectancy of the filter is determined by source water hardness and level of use.

Hi . Which model of jura can make self cleaning in end of day in office .where there is no one can spend half hour in cleaning and rinsing ? Or any other brand can do
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi npng, Thanks for the question. Juras are among thge easier to maintain machine. Coffee systems self rinse on startup and shut down. Milk systems on most machines do have a rinse cycle. Some do it automatically about 10 minutes fter the last milk drink was made. If using milk system daily, You should also run a cleaning solution through them end of day. Newer Jura machines like the high capacity X8 (a good office machine) make the cleaning very easy. Also goes 40 brew cycles before you have to empty the used coffee box. Probably about 5 minutes to clean end of day: www.wholelattelove.com/jura-x8-platinum-espresso-machine

Hi JV, Thanks for the question. The Jura S8 does not have a programmable one touch Americano. But you can make an espresso and then have the machine deliver a pre-programmed amount of heated water over the espresso. There are some more expensive Jura machine which do make a true Americano with one touch. You might have a look at the Gaggia Cadorna line of machines which do make true one-touch Americanos. It's what I'm using and making in the studio everyday. They are a great value! Check them out in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moe0hZyhrZqMpsU Marc
