Nice review on the build. It was the 1st tank that I commanded as a Tanker back in the day. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome. These were just being replaced in Europe in my day. But a fun kit and an enjoyable build.

Did you command an Abrams as well? That would be next in line after the M60 right?

Carlos O Yes I was a M1 IP and M1a1 tank commander back in the day also. I was a officer in a Armored Cavalry Troop

Good review! I agree there are mixed A1 and A3 features on it and,as you said, it can be back dated to an A1 with little trouble. The suspension looks great and the detail on it is exceptional. Thanks for sharing this.

The kit arrived the day before I was due to go traveling, but I built it, shot the video and recorded a voiceover and then took it all on the road. I couldn't work on a laptop all the time. Not enough screen space! But I did end up getting the video finished eventually.

This is a good looking little kit. The smoke grenade launchers size and lack of mounting bracket seem clunky and detracts from the overall finish though. Thanks for the kit review and final build and the tanks history is most appreciated !

Sure, but the bright side is that by having them separate parts, you can leave them off, or build a handmade set quite easily with a small bit of sheet styrene and styrene rods

Smoke dischargers must be hard to get right. I have BF Chieftains and the dischargers on those ore woeful.
@bronco53347 жыл бұрын
I don't thnk it's so much that they're hard to SCULPT right. It's that they're hard to CAST right. Particularly in plastic, and particularly when molded as part of the turret part. And PARTICULARLY when the smoke discharger tubes all point in slightly different angles. The Zvezda M2 Bradley has an interesting method of doing it: they sculpted the grenade dischargers on a thin tab, with the dischargers pointing straight up. This allows the mold half to withdraw directly along the length of the smoke discharger tubes, meaning they are all distinct rods instead of a melted-together mass. By putting them on the thin tab, the person building the kit just has to bent the tab down to the correct angle and put in a little dab of greenstuff under/behind the tab to hold it at the right angle. Or glue in a small triangle of styrene. Probably still better to just cast them as separate parts, though.

Yes. Plastic injection moulding is a fraught process trying to get complex shapes to work with two mould plates. Slide moulds use a multipart mould of several parts that come together which allows undercuts and other complex shapes. But that is ludicrously expensive. BF use a variation on this for some track detail on some of the newer plastics. But as a separate part it should be possible to make a decent approximation. The BF M1 Abrams has OK smoke dischargers, if I remember. Even the PSC ones here would be acceptable of they were 20% smaller and a little taller.

I think you might be able, with a little imagination, to add a thermal sleeve. Maybe with facial tissue dipped in a 50/50 water and white glue mixture?
@FogofWar4 жыл бұрын
You sure could! But to be fair, it is a limitation of the kit that they would make you do that.

very good model, I do not know this brand but the finishes look good, I will follow you to see your next videos. Regards my friend

Today my copy of "Fate of a Nation" arrived. Of course M60s are no M48s but close enough so I may use those as early Magach tanks. Will see. I hope for BF releasing M48s in plastic for WoT and Checkpoint Charlie this year. And the early Magach 1-3 were nearly unchanged M48s. Also the jordans can field M48s in FoaN. Yeah, I am hoping for M48s in plastic. And I think there is a need for them by different nation players. The egyptians can field IS-3s. Plastic IS-3s here I come! 😁

Actuall, now you mention it, the photo has been reversed. I used it as it was posted. But the original poster must have flipped it. Or it is a rare left-handed M60A1.
