I am fond of DK Summit. It's my favorite course in Wave 4. I know that you generally hate the realistic city tracks, but both Bangkok and Singapore are two of my favorites, both in Wave 4, and in the entirety of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Bangkok has a fun turn into the garage and a variety of paths to take. Singapore, meanwhile, is flashy and colorful. A beautiful time. Yoshi's Island is the clear fan-pleaser. It literally looks like you are injected into the world of the SNES game. I recently played Yoshi's Island, so it was nice to see that realized as a Mario Kart course. Utterly masterful. Birdo's inclusion is fantastic. Nice to see more racers join the fun. Like Yoshi and Shy Guy, black is my favorite color on Birdo; black skin with white accents is consistently charming to me. The white, dark blue, and light blue are other fun Birdos. Good review.

HOT TAKE: as someone who never played tour i found all three city tracks here to be better than avg as far as enjoyability (almost all three have totally unique routes and way more elements like underwtaer/glider/antigrav - and singapore sets the bar for sure but the other two were great and to my own surprise the three dope cities (a 5/5, and two 3.5-4's/5s for me) actually helped this wave keep pace with the excellent wave 3 imo

My confirmation bias from Mayor Joshy is always welcome! I definitely do miss the old podcast like discussions so relaxing to sleep to or study too 🖤🖤🖤 I personally not a fan of the cartoony trees because it contrasts with the base game artstyle. In riverside park. DK Cannon They blueballed us with the DK cannon, they need to add the changing fog. I wish they would have it go from a snow storm to sunny day. I hate new metal cate and back board. It loved to cabin like aesthetic. Something ai noticed but the courses from tour often feel like they don’t have any challenge because the tracks are so wide..I miss the variety in track design

I just knew you’d love Yoshi’s Island, and I’m glad you liked it just as much as I did. Definitely a far superior “new” course than that lame ice cream one we got last summer. Also agreed with the music. It’s the most faithful arrangement of the original Athletic theme, yet it embellishes it in very tasteful ways that make it feel authentic. And of course, they had to go all out by including the start jingle and “course clear” fanfare. I just couldn’t help but smile the whole way through.

Yoshi's Island is the best of this wave. When I played for the first time and I heard the iconic sound from when you started a level...amazing. All the details are spot, and typical sounds from the SNES game...best track so far

Overall, Nintendo seems to have for the most part really hitting these dlc tracks out the park. Some minor gripes here and there but this has been more than a pleasant surprise to say the least.

22:41 That Yoshi song from Galaxy 2 was one of my favorite themes. The Galaxy games had so many good memorable songs. I agree that the Tour tracks are flooding the DLC. I would have loved to see tacks like Koopa Cape, Mushroom City, Daisy’s Circuit, Moonview Highway, and Bowser’s Castle GCN get in over all of the Tour tracks.

Yoshi Star Galaxy! It was actually composed by Koji Kondo. Yoshi Star Galaxy was the first time he’d written a Yoshi tune since composing Yoshi’s Island a decade and a half prior.

"i wish there were more levels with like, more flowers" - did u miss Peach *GARDENS* in wave 3 my man? also people hating the city tracks but Sydney showed how good they could be and Singapore just raised the bar again, even bangkok with multiple routes/upper lower areas and the long glider part/chinatown section is cool, and amsterdams atleast 3.5stars, u get three unique laps, one with the glider/farm area, one all underwater and then one thru the tulips/alt route....now tokyo blur/nyc are a diff story, those suuuuucked lol

as a dutchman, i can't help myself but love Amsterdam Drift also Yoshi's Island is kinda underwhelming for me, no track part goes over or under the under, there is no split direction options, there is no going in the other direction, and i thought it would be a long single track (like Mt Wario or Rainbow Road 64) + i find the coin sound a little annoying

It was a great wave but the graphics still inevitably disappoint. Really love Riverside Park; the GBA tracks feel like dioramas in their simplicity and small scale.

I'm most excited about waluigi stadium, riverside park, and yoshis island. I'm really not a fan of the tour courses. 😕 they feel out of place and are sometimes even confusing to navigate. The fact the track changes each lap can make this even worse. Their are times where I will literally turn the wrong way because of the track layout. They each have their 'moments' of "oh, that's pretty neat," in terms of their themes, but overall I wish they wouldn't add them. I'd prefer new/remakes of older tracks. I expect we will be getting at least 4 more by the end of their dlc's given the pattern. I hope they give this game a good send-off. They've been releasing patch notes with each dlc. Wave 3 brought us item customization. Imagine for their last wave (once all the new characters come out as well) they add special character items like they had in double dash. One can only dream...

I find the real-world tracks to be the most interesting and fun, in general. To each his own. The worst tracks in Wave 4 are the gross and boring Waluigi Stadium and DK Summit.
