Great review as always, i love that you show your modifications afterwards so we can see how the model is out of the box first. Only bad thing about the re-release is the higher price

Thanks. The mods aren't exactly necessary, but I just enjoy doing these. I can imagine the cost of the materials have grown significantly since 2009, so I'm kind of ok with Minichamps increasing the RRP. The price is on par with their current diecast releases, so that's fair enough. Of course, you could argue they didn't have to re-engineer the moulds for the castings and do all the research again, so they could have cut the price for those reasons. But then you have prices all over the place in their model range, so for me it does make sense why they just ask the current RRP for it. It's still a very good model today, unlike the Senna re-released Mclarens or the Prost Williams FW15. If they would have released this Mclaren today as a totally new model, no one would complain about the price.

One of the best F1 moments I think. No controversies, just pure sport and emotions begin swung from one side to the other. Fantastic!

Great review! Love the additional details you've added. The black bits on the bottom of the front wing endplates seen to be very different between the two versions 🤔

I noticed that too when editing the video, yeah. It was too late to still include it in the video! It seems the old version with the curved part on top is the correct one. Typical Minichamps trying to fix something that isn't broken...

Reissues of old models for an inflated price are a no go for me, even when the original did stand the test of time, contrary to the Senna McLarens.
@rps_reviews10 ай бұрын
I agree on some level, but of a lot of people maybe weren't collecting back when it was first released, or missed out on it and didn't want to pay the inflated ebay prices for it. In Minichamps' defence, the prices of the materials used have grown massively since the model came out back in 2009, so for them to increase the RRP to cover the rise in costs is understandable. The quality of the model and the price is also on par with the current diecast releases, so it's not like they particularly milk it out any further. You could argue they didn't have to re-engineer the moulds for the castings and do all the research again, so they could have cut the price for those reasons. But imagine having to evaluate the RRP for every model you make based upon the amount of detail you put in, the research you have to do, or the overall quality. You'd have different prices for every model in your range, which would be confusing for the customer. A good example would be the (t)Racing Point RP20. It's basically the Mercedes W10 and Minichamps gratefully made used of the Merc moulds to make most of parts for the RP20. It only logical they would still sell the RP20 model at the normal RRP and not at a reduced price because they could use old castings. Another good example were the Red Bull RB4 and Toro Rosso STR3, or even the Red Bull RB1 and Toro Rosso STR1 models. As you said, this release at least stood the test of time and if it would have been a brand new release today, no one would have said anything about the price.

There were zinc rot issue with early release in the engine cover. I encountered this with original release.

Hopefully they will have fixed this on the new releases!

@@lukeguilfoyle2425 Yep - it's definitely on the "to-do" list! I purchased the Amalgam "first win" in 1/8 scale for £2700 back in 2008, then thought "what have I done?!" and I sent it back. Now Amalgam 1/8's retail for c£8000. It's one of my major regrets not keeping hold of it!!

@@StuartH2709 😂 Is the same with my sennas fw16. I picked it up like 20 years ago before the crazy price hike of the 1/18 f1 cars. I think it was released on the 10th anniversary of his sad death in 2004. I’ve also got buttons brawn from Brazil 2009 and I hope they don’t re release that one to 😂
@StuartH270910 ай бұрын
@@darrenwalters6339 Yeah, I agree. Some manufacturers try and get away with re-issuing effectively the same model but at over-inflated prices. The recent Schumacher Benetton releases were of a much higher quality though so it can be a bit of a gamble at the end of the day! If you've got too many models (like myself 😅) and want to trim the collection you have to time it well!!

Thank you for yet another great review. Can I ask where do you buy the helmet tint? I would like to do the same to my red bull model.

I used cricut tint film, this one in particular is a non-seethrough iridium red.
