*Surely most people in the UK who were around in the 60s or 70s have come into contact with an 1100 at some point. Do you own one? Did you own one back then? Perhaps you took a driving test in one, or worked for an MOT garage and regularly failed 1100s for advancing rust after just a few years? It'd be great to read your comments. Thanks for watching.*

My late Dad bought a black Morris 1100 in 1965. We lived in Newcastle New South Wales Australia. It was his first brand new car. I can remember my Dad and Mum and me and my two younger brothers and our little sister piling into the Morris 1100 to go on holiday. We called her the "Black Beauty". My Dad did all the maintenance himself. He bled the brakes and changed the oil. The little car even towed a camper trailer. When it was fully loaded it struggled a bit. I was interested in the suspension as it was high tech for the time. If I had known then that the styling was by Pininfarina I sure would have bragged to my school mates! In 1971 my Dad bought a Valiant Charger which was a macho two door coupe and the exact opposite of the Morris 1100.

I owned a 1970 Wolseley 1300 with Walnut dash and deep plush seats.Twin carbs made it quite nippy and it cornered incredibly well at ridiculous speeds.Yes it was a rotter but I had a lot of fun in it and I've never owned a car since that rode so smoothly!

My parents had a couple of 1100 /1300s in the early 70s when i was a child. Whilst I cannot give lots of information on either, i do remember how roomy they were and the ribbon speedo was magical as a child back then. I have always had a positive opinion of the cars even to this day. I have even considered buying one a number of times in recent years. Yes they used to rust quite readily, especially, i think the trumpet sections underneath the front wings, but it has to be remembered that all vehicles from past times rusted badly. Really good, quite advanced cars fo the time.

Imagine these cars brought back today with modern construction techniques and interior comforts. They’re classic designs and, I’m sure, would turn heads away from the constant ‘clones’ of today.

That's something I had considered doing with one of my ones, but never got around to it. I have three of these. A green Morris 1300, a white Austin 1100, and an orange Austin 1300GT.

I wonder why they never did an automatic estate. Most small estates back then were only 3 door. Escort Mk1 & 2. Chevette. There was only a Renault-thing that had a 5 door estate.

Whereas Ford would sell you a base, L, GL, Ghia & S spec of 1 car model, BL had a brand for each trim level, which went, I think: Austin/Morris DeLuxe, Austin/Morris Super DeLuxe, Wolseley, Riley, Vanden plas & MG/1300GT (!)

That's interesting to read. I know dad's VdP was a fine car to drive, I even didn't mind the auto box (to my surprise)

I had à morris1100 1964 when I was in Germany with the Canadian army , i like the suspension , the space inside the car , the trunk with the hatch back door had enough space , but despite all that the car was unreliable , the electric gaz pump located at the back kept jamming i had to get out of the car and kick it to make work again , the rain came in the windshield when it rain too much , the car was poorly assemble , also some of my colleagues had problems with the suspension the oil came out of the hoses ! I only had the car for one year ! Great souvenirs its all part of my time in Germany as part of the NATO forces !!!!

Very interesting to read your memories of the 1100, what a shame your example was so unreliable.
