I am doing the same thing. My ramp is 4 feet wide for a wheelchair, with treated 2x6 boards, layed down with a 3/8" gap between them. Today I cut 20 strips 5 inches wide from asphalt shingles. I am going to run a bead of PL adhesive around the edge and twice across the middle of the strips bottom side before I nail them down. Then I want to paint over the asphalt strips with a Rustoleum oil based paint that I thinned 25 percent with thinner, so the paint will help to secure and hold the sandy top stuff in place.

We used the tape and you're right! Didn't work well at all!

@@doitcontractors7351 what about using galvanized washers with the nails to increase the surface area of pressure on the roof shingle? Would that work?
