Review of: Cabin Max “Equator” flight-approved backpack (carry-on luggage/cabin bag)

I used to have this bag. It was epic, best bag I ever had. I hiked mountains, walked the camino de santiago, and backpacked around asia with it. Sadly at the end I was too rough with it and broke the zip. This video brought back amazing memories

Great review! I am going on several trips shortly and I do not want to deal with checked luggage. I decided that for the trips I am taking, a backpack is definitely the way to go instead of any sort of Duffel or Suit case. I couldn't decide what type of backpack I wanted and was quite overwhelmed as to which bag to purchase. I narrowed it down to about five different bags which I still couldn't decide between until I found this video. Thank you so much for doing this review! I am definitely taking this bag with me on my trips! You made the decision process much easier!

This is really the perfect multi purpose bag. Max size for carry on and equally good for hiking etc.

I ordered this Grey and Orange one off of Amazon and was sent the black variant. It doesn't have the two sideways pockets you show at 1:40

They must have changed the design. As they didn’t send what you ordered, you could request a return saying.you’ve been sent the wrong item they’ll pay the return P&P. As the black one’s lost some features compared with the orange & grey one, has it gained any others?

@@misterg1157 doesn't appear so. There are two semi circle metal clips at the bottom of the large flap that opens to reveal the largerst compartment. Right next to the mesh zipped portion. But there doesn't appear to be any reason for them being there. They look like the same clips that are used on the shoulder and waist straps.

Great review. The Cabin Max website has a picture that says depth is 23 cm - that made me doubt a little. But as you say, it's just a matter of not filling it up too much. I'm going to buy it. Thanks!

+TheEfeeme: While I can't speak on behalf of airlines, obviously, surely if a slightly oversized bag can fit into the metal airport 'measuring box' then it is not oversized? That's one advantage of a soft bag. I've taken an oversized soft bag and never had a problem (it's always fitted into that box).

+TheEfeeme I have just measured my bag. I make it 23cm too. But 23cm of clothes will not be 23cm when you push them into a metal bag measurer - they will crush. (You can't be so forceful if you have put your laptop in the bag). Most airlines that I fly with have a maximum depth of 25cm.

Cris Yorke: I believe there are. I don't have one so I can't comment. I don't know how strong they are. Have you considered a Scottevest? They're great to use in conjunction with a carry-on bag. I have one. Absolutely wonderful. Great for getting around being eg 10 lb overweight in carry-on bag. Put items in Scottevest to reduce weight of main bag to 20lb. A journalist said he put transferred items back into his carry-on bag the moment he cleared the checks (he wasn't using a Scottevest - he decided to wear jumper over jumper over jumper to bring weight of checked-in bag down. He said airlines can't charge you for what you wear).

Cris Yorke no, I have one . It is very very big with a lot of secret pockets. This is not for daily use it can be use easly as normal checked bag even it is carry on.

Are the backpack strips retracable/hideable?

Good question. No. You can simply tighten them. Some bags have a zipped flap that you can hide the straps behind when not in use. My bags that have that feature store the flap in the base when the straps are in use - this bag can't do that as that's where it puts the rain cover. Incidentally, the manufacturer asked me for feedback and that was one of the things I mentioned that I'd like to see in a bag. Maybe a future model might feature it (?).

Pretty poor. Shoulder strap clips broke before I even took it out of the house. The Divider in the main compartment is pretty useless - Stuff just slides past it into the lower part unless the lower part is completely full.
