Review of David Gilmour About Face

In 1984 David Gilmour set out to record a studio album that, according to him would have to be; “really good”. He spared no expenses. On the album he works together with some of the most acclaimed names in the music business; Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Steve Winwood (Traffic, Blind Faith), Pino Palladino (The Who, Nine Inch Nails) and Roy Harper (who sang on the Pink Floyd song ‘Have a Cigar’). With brilliant co-producer Bob Ezrin (The Wall, Berlin) on his side nothing could go wrong. Right?

At least About Face gave us a great review of About Face. "Eat, Pray, Love, David Gilmour" is one of the funniest things I've heard lately. I have heard tracks from it, and while I thought they were okay, "80s kitsch" is correct. Definitely that "let's try to get this into an episode of Miami Vice" sound (although that was actually a cool show). Bob Ezrin is a great producer, but he might've still been in the depths of the cocaine addiction at this time (although I do not know that for sure). Maybe you should keep the CD in case you do an about face on the album (sorry, couldn't resist).

This is the kind of review I was expecting for Bowie's Tonight and Never Let Me Down albums.Surely there has never been a worse crime committed to tape than the God Only Knows cover.

It definitely has that 80’s vibe that doesn’t suit his music. Murder is the best song on the album. Agree it goes to the bottom of this list of his solo work

Not a brilliant Gilmour solo album, indeed. But still better then a good Taylor Swift record. #mytaste
