Great review guys and happy birthday to you Billy you are the same starsign as Jon pertwee lol. Love this story and exactly what Matthew said why have we not seen a Return To Peladon in new who its 50 years ago this year so why didn't they do something this year.? Oh well we can only hope RTD does a return @ some stage :-)

A detail I never saw before was when Susan is guided out of the city to get the drugs one of the Daleks with her had a few scuffs on it's fender and that was what really sold me on the remaster. Plus the Black and Red Daleks moving towards the camera and talking about what they're going to do looks incredible compared to the screenshots I was staring at for hours to paint my customs

Lovely hearing you two gush about a story you love. :) As for modern fans having problems with the Third Doctor, I think the issue is that he tends to get these really chauvinistic lines and actions that really do a disservice to how genuinely charming he can be.

Excellent review! Just like your nephew I was absolutely terrified by the empty child, it gave me nightmares for years and was my earliest Who memory. My earliest exposure to the Dalek films was when I got a 4 foot inflatable gold Dalek from Invasion Earth as a birthday present as a kid, what a great gift. Can't wait to watch the movies again at my local vintage cinema this Sunday.

I can’t wait to rewatch them but at my local theatre with my mate of mine. Also Curse of Peladon I remember getting it from my local Oxfam shop. I can see why Billy loves this story and im happy for him.

I saw both Dalek movies at Odeon a few days ago and really enjoyed them. Dr Who and the Daleks is zippy and looks gorgeous on the big screen - the colours are beautiful - but the Daleks are slightly misjudged (the Dalek counting down had the whole audience in fits of giggles with every number he called out). I think Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. is fun but seems rushed given the epic scale of the TV version. Peter Cushing is great and Bernard Cribbins is a whale of a time but I sort of did miss Roy Castle as Ian in the second film.

Having looked back at the Terry Walsh bit in Part 3; I too can hear him satying "up, up, up"! Can't believe I never noticed that before.

It seems odd to me that they filmed that fight scene and recorded sound too, especially inserts with the stunt man. I would have thought the sound was all Foley effects etc.

Fun review. Who doesn't love Alpha Centauri? Planets to revisit idea.... Argolis! Decades after 'The Leisure Hive,' where a now grown up (again) Pangol (Pangol the Peace Maker) is trying to prevent war among the neighbouring worlds due to the manipulations of a greedy and hidden enemy set on accessing the TARDIS Randomiser within the Recreation Generator to change the real worlds, not the Tachyon simulations... :)

Curse of Peladon was one of the first Pertwee stories I had ever watched. This was when I starting out as a Doctor Who fan back in late 2010/early 2011, back when I was trying to get a feel for all the Doctors. I'd gotten a good start with the Five Doctors since that story gave audiences a taste of the first five Doctors, not so much Tom Baker. Watching those stories for the first time, I really enjoyed how fast-paced the Curse of Peladon was and the idea that the Ice Warriors weren't the villains of the story. I will go on record to say that I saw the television version of The Daleks first and in some ways, I kind of prefer it to the movies. Nothing against the Cushing films but I think that it is, as you've stated, a case of which version you see first. I like how the TV version plays into the overarching plot of introducing Doctor Who, it's characters and the universe it was trying to present. Some scenes are drawn out a bit, such as the ledge scene and the part in the corridors where the Daleks start locking down the city is a little drawn out as well. But I feel that overall it provides a good adventure that introduces us to the space side of the adventures in space and time. I feel the Doctor's character is developed along from the callus old man only interested in protecting his grandchild towards but not quite there yet caring but still stubborn old man we see at the end of the Edge of Destruction.

"A bit of polystyrene is no problem at all" is a sentiment that I can't get behind, I can't be in the same room as polystyrene, I can't stand it, awful stuff, I touched a piece when I was 4 and it made me cry and ever since then I've just had this deep rooted fear, the noise it makes, the feel of it, the thought of the feel of it. Didn't enjoy hearing that part. I'm really sad that the dalek films came to my town for 3 days, all while I was off on holiday, probably my only chance to see them like that and I missed it. Love the cushing movies, that first one was my first taste of doctor who, years before I got into the show itself, or even knew there was a show

Nice reviews! I remember seeing both the Dalek films in the cinema back in mid '60s, as a very young child, and absolutely loving them! I loved Dr Who on telly too, but yes, as you both pointed out, the films are a nice 'abridged' version of the TV serials; plus the colour really helped!! :-) Haven't seen 'Curse Of Peladon' since 1972!! I really must get that Peladon boxset ordered from Amazon..!

The Black Dalek from Dr Who and the Daleks is one of my favourite Dalek liveries. Invasion Earth 2150AD was the first I watched just after I started watching the revival and I'd say it's my favourite, but the first is a much more beautiful looking film, especially the matte painting of Skaro.

Being my first time watching the films it was an interesting experience to compare the films to their respective serials. What really got me was how different Ian was compared to his original version. I did find myself missing the more competent Ian. Susan did surprise me given that she was being played by a child actor - found her quite charming in these films compared to her TV version. Cribbins was a fun companion, though I did find the extended roboman sequence a little strange. And I did enjoy Cushing as Doctor Who in his own right On your point about the way the Daleks talked, I agree that most of the time they were too stilted, but I think it was when they were asking who would go to get the drugs that the Dalek just talked normally which cracked me up Personally I don't mind the 4k restoration somewhat revealing the artifice - like noticing the wires for the Dalek saucer. It didn't really take me out of it at all, but I can see why it would for others. Though maybe that's just because I'm a fan of that kind of special effects in general All in all it was a good way to spend the afternoon though

Slightly obsessed with this right now! After watching the 4K double bill on the big screen last Sunday, being shocked at how much 2150ad just beats the bumpers off the first one. That seemed obvious to me all along but was that just nostalgia? I'd never watched one immediately after the other, until now - headcanon confirmed! Despite owning the DVD's and snoring through a sub-Standard Def TV screening on some freeview channel or other, on more than a few Sunday afternoons. And not on the big screen since that first time it came around again (before VHS and Bluray and streaming, films used to come around again at the pictures for like years) when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old and fell for this movie like there was no awning to stop me. Now I'm seeking out podcasts and reviews, making's of and magazines, all devoted to the ("better"... say it with me;) Dalek movie. I'm Googleing and saving wallpapers and just can't get enough of (MY canon) Dr. Who! Pre-ordering the hard-cover book that's out in September, awaiting delivery of themed coffee mugs, downloading soundtrack tunes off Amazon... omg, if this is some kind of midlife then I'm refilling the Sugar Puffs and smiling all the way to Bedfordshire;) And planning a rewatch of At The Earths Core (1976) next, for the Cush in full Dr. Who mode, sigh. Sad, I know. It's been a week and I'm still on it lol
