My review of Drawing Lessons from the Famous Artists School by Stephanie Haboush Plunkett and Magdalen Livesey.
Some of the fun and helpful "Now You Try It" practice sections from the book include:
1. Practice sketching parts of your daily life and revising them to tell a more interesting visual story
2. Creating your own version of an existing artwork by changing one element to alter the story or by adding contemporary aspects
3. Practice logging your composition ideas in a sketchbook to build upon them for a future artwork
4. Trying stream of consciousness drawing by starting with one object and continuing from there
5. Draw the result of an "incident" happening to an object
6. Experimenting with different lighting/tonal variations of the same sketch
7. Adapting a drawing you've been working on for a specific media format (eg. a webpage)
8. Practice drawing facial expressions using only 3 tones
9. Bring your sketchbook with you in the world and practice capturing the gesture of people moving in space
10. Try painting a scene multiple times using different combinations of cool or warm colours to see how it affects the overall feel of the painting
