You're both a treasure! Last night I shared her Ted talk and your book review with my husband, then proposed we launch a mini book club together with our closest friends. We are literally in the last leg of our KonMari journey, and are so enjoying freeing or space from the burden of unloved stuff. This seems the perfect next step in freeing our time & energy from the burden of unloved obligations & unnecessary busy-ness!

I'm just glad that I found your channel - and I very much enjoy and appreciate your work. I’m not a huge reader, but I was in Barnes & Noble with my mom and the title automatically drew me in. I was reading a few pages while my mom looked around and I had to write down the title in the notes on my phone to check out later. Coming across your review was SO helpful, being that I rarely ever like purchasing books (I usually read the first few pages and forget about them). I’m 21 and I figured “hey I definitely do NOT have my shit together so why not check this out”. The cursing in the book will make it easier for me to get through because all I do is fucking curse and it’s hard for me to actually laugh out loud like you mentioned. ps, I will for sure be binge watching your videos because your energy and humor is contagious ♥️

I'm so excited for this interview with Sarah Knight! Fun fact: After watching your review on The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck, I'm currently reading it..... and in my inner monologue, it's narrated in your Irish accent! So, the comment about you doing the audio book was particularly funny for me ;) I can't wait to get into the new book. I'm in Canada, so I'd love to win the US version of Get Your Shit Together!

My question for Sarah - For the lot of us that spend most of our working days in meetings that we can't get out of, how do we find time to do our actual jobs without consistently dipping into our time at home to "catch up"? I work in a place where even if I block out time in the calendar to work, people will still assume I can move stuff around to accommodate them. Also, the US version please. :)
@HowToGYST7 жыл бұрын
Good question! I'll pop that on the list.

Great review, Laura! I definitely want to read the first book now so that I can read the second one! I'd love a US version :) Some (possibly quirky) background: I'm a very introverted, shy, and anxious person, but I like to try very hard to please people and make them happy. I've worked from home for almost 5 years now; before I started working from home, for 4 years I worked in offices where I would put on my "extroverted mask" for 8 hours and then come home exhausted. When I started working from home, I barely left the house during the week, but I was actually quite comfortable since I didn't have to deal with office politics andI got to hang out with my cat and dog in my jammies all day. The downside to this was my lack of interaction with other people besides my family, which I feel has affected my ability to socialize comfortably with others. Now I have a toddler who needs to be socialized, and I'm worried my awkwardness will scare other moms and their kids away. My question for Sarah is this: How do I get my shit together and make "mom" friends (or I guess just friends in general who hopefully have kids and maybe a spouse as well and we all get along and like each other)? How do I stop giving so many fucks about how I present myself (i.e., forcing myself to wear my "extrovert mask") to other moms (or people in general)? I just want to be as comfortable around other people as I am with my family and to just be myself.

Love your stuff, Laura. My question is: how can I maintain that 'higher state of being' amidst everyone else's shit.. Especially concerning my career. How do I 'guard' my own unique thing from those bad influences, that push me off my track and have a negative influence on my motivation/productivity etc... It can be some pretty _deep shit_ sometimes, like certain vibes/feelings some people emit that make me doubt my whole project! I'd be so grateful if you did a post on this topic - or maybe you've already done so? Anyways, thank you, and all the best from Finland!! :) xxx

US-I'm still finishing the decluttering process, but have come a long way. Now's when I am going through all the hard to get rid of stuff like sentimental items. I can see the end of this process is near. My question, well and concern, is how do you start to sift through what remains to figure out what it is that you want in life? I read how stuff holds us back, well logically I figure that must mean that when that stuff is gone so is the excuses I had as to why I wasn't pursuing what I want in life. I think mainly I fear that I will be standing there and not know where to start and will slowly start to slide backwards. Oh and i will be using the word shittens in the future lol!

Eh, tell those people to feck off! I was a lawyer when I was 28, a stay-at-home mother when I was 29, and I started this KZbin channel and my blog when I was 30. When I'm 40 I might be doing something completely different that I never even imagined. There's no such thing as "knowing what you want to do". You can know what you want to do NEXT, and you might think you'll like doing it forever, but nobody knows where life will take them. My best advice is to try something you THINK you'd like. You'll get a feel for it, learn a lot, and it might lead you in a different direction. But I'll also pop this question on this list in case Sarah wants to answer it too. =)

Fab review :) my question is how do you prioritise your own wellbeing when you care for other people, I find it damn near impossible to even put myself on the list, let alone anywhere near the top (UK by the way)
@HowToGYST7 жыл бұрын
Great question! Can I ask, is caring for people part of your job or do you mean in your personal life?
@sarahbarrow5857 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) It would of course apply to either, in my case it's my personal life, I'm a stay at home mum of four children (five of you count the hubby!) & I also help care for my granny who is 91 & for my mother in law,... I'm happy to be able to do this but it can leave me feeling burnt out

First thing I'd do is imagine how f*cking amazing it's going to feel when it's done. Then I'd set a timer for 5 minutes and zip around the house gathering up all the loose papers. Then I'd take a nice break. And repeat over the course of several hours or days or even weeks, depending on your schedule. Once they're all gathered, break them into small chunks of about 1-inch thick. Have a shredder/recycling box beside and quickly zip through each pile, pulling out the ones you no longer need. Again, do this process with each chunk over the course of a few days or however long you need. This should significantly reduce the pile. Then go back and either set a timer or go through chunks again, this time separating everything out into piles (insurance, tax documents, etc.). (You'll find you can get rid of a few more during this process too.) Once everything's separated, grab yourself a file folder, label it with the particular category, and stick everything in there. AND THEN BOOK YOURSELF A WEEKEND AT A SPA. 😂 But I'll pop it on the list for Sarah too. 😉

I loved the life-changing Magic if not giving a fuck. After you mentioned it I downloaded it immediately. I think because the title is appealing . Flowcharts do save your live! So I (also) love them, I think because I hate thinking? Or decision making? On my way removing more shit, doing a good job I think, if they call me chill Lizzy, I have figure out to remove more. So the UK version would be nice! Love you video's! Sometimes I think you can read my mind😂.

So funny, I saw this at the book store a little while ago and did a double take thinking that you might have somehow gotten a book published that I didn't know about. Also, I would love any audiobook narrated by you; I love your voice. US or UK. Do I have to pick one?
@HowToGYST7 жыл бұрын
Only in the sense that it's easier for the closest publisher to get it to you. The further it has to travel, the longer it'll take and the more chance there is of it going astray. LOVE that you thought of me when you saw the book. 😂

In fairness, good pain killers eliminate the need to give a fuck about the root of the problem. 😏 You would for sure rock the shit out of narrating the audio book. My God, I could listen to you swear all day. The word fuck sounds down right adorable the way you say...lol. Can't wait to see an interview with Sarah. I would ask a question of her but I can't even get my shit together enough to know if I even give a fuck enough to ask. Thanks for the review though Laura. Here in the US there is a "thing" happening tomorrow/today that I probably want to try to sleep through so off to bed I go!

"and I grew up in the back arse of Ireland and I know who Tony Danza is" I fucking love it!! I've been watching your channel for a while and as another unfiltered Irish chick, I think it's fucking deadly! It does sound like the book you would have written! I agree this really is the shit they should be teaching in school!! My question would be: How do figure out what is the meaningful shit in you life is? The what the fuck am I doing to be when I grow up, even though I'm 30 this year and I don't have a clue what I want to do because this stripping back makes you question if the things you want to be or do, will actually be what makes you happy?! UK/US doesn't bother me, I'm in OZ.
