Watching you with all these safety precautions makes me feel so unsafe, been playing with asbestos and florescent tubes on and off all my life lol. Great vid as per, i always remember my 88 year old grandfather saying he smashed up all the carcinogens that existed, and he died of old age!

Just used this on a MDF unit. Used Johnson primer then undercoat & 2 coats of satin (with fine sanding between every coat) I also used a high density roller on final coats. Have to say it's one of the best paints I have ever used & I'm a Benjamin Moore fan.

nice paint but is quite soft and will come off quite easy if accidently knocked , thats the price you pay for using satin gloss on on heavier people kids and pets traffic areas . Upstairs ONLY , downstairs in same brand you will need the hardwearing satin that needs white spirit for brushes and gloss roller heads . Ps B anD M have some great prices on some of the paint.

Bit of Walter and a Proform blaze 2 inch for no brush marks used that paint before but now I use wrx quick dry satin hands down easiest satin I’ve used to apply

If you want the smoothest finish without brush marks, then water it down for a thin consistency and do multiple coats. That's the trade-off.

Give it a key no matter what it looks like, give it an undercoat, water down your paint a little by about 15% and that will stop the brushstrokes... just painting this product direct with no prep may result in blistered paint after a few months.

How was the smell after? Just bought some metal drawers the previous owner painted with this stuff a month or more ago and it’s stinking out the rooms 😬 Would be less bothered but can’t imagine it’s good for a baby to be around

maybe you bought the johnstone hardwearing which amells , and not the quick dry

Usually oil based paint gives a superior finish applied by brush as the working time is longer, so you can lay off and avoid brush marks. It self levels as it’s wetter for longer…..it’s the main reason why lots of switched to spraying water based woodwork etc as the finish ain’t quite as good as oil based. Clean up is easier though.

Slow working time with oil based also means more likely for the paint too sag and get drips no matter how careful you are applying

@@keefykeef that’s why you lay it off and don’t apply it too thickly…when it dries quickly as it does with water based you can’t work it as much. I prefer water based myself, just oil is better for getting a nicer brush mark free finish. Unless spraying…or just use a 2 fussy blokes roller sleeve and be done with it🤷‍♂️

@@ScrubbersGhost yes, I am well aware of how to paint. The trouble is, most people don't. That's why when I moved in to my new house I sand all our doors because they were covered in drips. That's my point

What's with Johnstone's saying that their paints are 'Interior' on the front of the tin, and then saying 'also suitable for external use', on the side!?. I've just bought their white gloss, but it doesn't smell at all like usual gloss paints do!. I'm beginning to regret my purchase, and wondering if I should repaint the wood with a usual gloss paint...

I just use whatever paint I have painted the rest of the room with - so that my radiators match the rest of my decor. I have never had any problems with 'discolouration', and the radiator no longer stands out from the rest of the decor. And I usually wait till my heating is off (ie the summer) before painting them. Oh yes, I always use brushes rather than rollers, in my opinion the finish/texture is better, sure it takes a little longer but a wide brush on walls takes very little more time. In the end you are going to live with the finish for several years and the small amount of extra time you spend is minimal in the lifespan of your room. And I haven't used oil based paint inside since the 1980s.

@chazzyb8660 paints aren't as good as they were 20-30 years ago. They've all been watered down since this environmental business. As for alot of decorators, I have found that many don't bother preparing the wood work. Many are just slap on merchants when it comes to painting wood work.. It's all about getting the work finished as quick as possible, getting paid then onto the next job.

Buy good quality paint, it's just as good, if not better. I'm talking interiors here, I would still use oil based outside. Probably. Only go by recommendations, there are lots of good guys still out there. Preparation is all, I do agree.

I thought you had to use a specialist radiator paint for radiators? If you use a general Wood and metal paint won’t allow the radiator to heat up properly.

Blackfriars Radiator paint is the best water based radiator paint. The brush marks will smooth out as it dries some what. Harris is not a good quality brush and I see the Harris brush you've used was pure bristle (black bristles). Well you want to use a fine tipped synthetic brush. Purdy brushes are the best brushes on the market (and some of the dearest too unless you can get it in a deal, currently Dulux decorators centre sell a 3 pack for £23 reduced from like £38 RRP) - Professional decorator for 25 years

A mask is not needed and wont stop fumes anyway. If you have painted straight over oil based paint, no primer...it wont last

Strange color. Normally you use plenty of water-based paint when it is used. You also do not need to use a protective mask when it is water-based.
