After both phases, Debi Thomas stood in 1st Place, with Tiffany Chin in 3rd, and Katarina Witt in 4th.

Only because Katerina faltered in her SP. Katerina won the LP. If she had skated a clean SP then the 86 World title would have been hers.

​​@@AT-jm4dl... Katarina was lousy at FIGURES. And she always skated the Easiest Triple Jump Combination in the SHORT PROGRAM which she badly fell out of. She also was behind, Technically, in 86 and Didn't have a Triple Loop........Also, in 87 Worlds DEBI almost repeated as Gold Medalist BUT she put a hand down in her SP on her Double Axel... otherwise Katarina couldn't have won back her title.

I know Ivanova was known for crash and burning but they should have said something more about her - I mean she didn't crash that badly until the free as she was second and coming fourth isn't really a total disaster - well unless you are Gracie Gold I guess.

Her SPs were usually pretty good. I only really remember her messing it up in Calgary at the Olympics

It definitely was, at least in the U.S. Frequently, “fillers” like athlete profiles and meaningless snippets from the competition took up most of the coverage and very few complete performances were shown, through the mid-1980s, especially on NBC and CBS. There were times when they only showed a couple of complete performances during an hour+ of skating coverage, while spending 10 minutes on featuring Elaine Zayak, asking her about how her foot got deformed…or a report on Tiffany Chin’s mother…
