Why is it called Pub Battles?
Because this rugged and beer proof game is designed to be played out! Setup and finish a game in less than 1 hour. Perfect to play at your favorite park, restaurant, café or pub.
It is simple and quick enough to introduce new players into the hobby; yet it has the depth of strategy, historical accuracy and realism that veteran gamers will enjoy.

Glad to see another review! I was really interested in this until I saw the price. $87??? yikes, that is expensive; then they want another $27 for Pub battles measuring sticks. I'm all for supporting small game companies but that price point just doesn't work for me.

The little chains work better then the sticks in my opinion. Save the money on that one. Great games series though. I've been thinking about having someone from Command Post Games on my Live interview show.

Hey guys! I'm from the Command Post. We have been listening and we have some new low priced options out. You can get the battle of Monmouth for only $22-37. www.commandpostgames.com/product/monmouth/ You can get a paper version of Brandywine now for only $45! www.commandpostgames.com/product/pub-battles-brandywine/ We are also very close to releasing a new Ancients Pub Battles system. You should be able to buy these 1 army at a time for only $20-40 range. They'll be a great way of trying out the system without breaking the gaming budget.

Thanks for the review. Seeing this one set up, it doesn't interest me visually as much as the others you've shown (maybe I don't like the way the units are packed in together and wish units were smaller pieces that could show a larger command breaking up and routing ). I wish they would make Medieval Pub Battles, as I think the style of warfare then would translate well to a simple game with an interesting chain-based movement mechanism. Out of curiosity, do you think the maps could be held down with poster tack (those sort of rubbery/gummy/eraser-like things you buy when you don't want to put a hole in your wall to hang a poster) and have it easily pulled off - or would that get stuck in the map and not come off cleanly? It might be a good alternative to holding down the map without plexi, as I think it would be a shame to bury it under a plastic sheet. Also, if you have a wood shop you should make your own "Pub Battles Crate" - something that doubles as a flat-top podium on a table so you don't have to crouch in order to see your pieces, and that also can store your maps flat inside. You can still display the tubes on your bar, but they'd become merely aesthetic rather than functional.

I like your idea of the sticky tack. I think that would work great.

Actually, once out of the tube, if you just roll it the other way, it tends to flatten right out. While Brandywine is a great introductory battle, I find the chit pull mechanic really comes into its own with the larger battles (Waterloo or Gettysburg). If cost is an issue (canvas is the Cadillac version), you can get the more affordable paper map version that comes on high quality stock, but it won't have the durability of the canvas map for beer spills.

You might look at poster frames to help game with a map like this. You can get them at Walmart as well as other places: www.walmart.com/browse/home/frames/poster/4044_133012_672579/dHlwZTpQb3N0ZXIie

That they are. The canvas print maps bump up the price I think.

Are Judd or Greg gonna do a game review? I love you Chief, but... the last few games you looked at were... meh.

Lol...sometimes I bring the meh. Judd has plans to do some more reviews. Just a matter of scheduling with the holidays. Greg has not showed an interest as of yet.

Only played Brandywine and Little Big Horn. Liked Big Horn Better. My son really got into it as well so that was part of it. Seeing those Troopers get overrun really had an impact and it was cinematic too. Really enjoyed it.

Great Story. Getting your son into gaming and interested in history is fantastic. I love history and so many of the younger generation can't tell you who Americans fought for freedom in the Revolution, , Who was the 1st President, Who fought in the Civil War, Who Won. I saw a show where these question were asked of college age students could not answer these question and it greatly depressed and saddened me. Without knowing true history one can not know just how great America is.
