When I was in my late 20s I realised that just because a film/ TV show has the same name as another film / TV show, plus a "2" and a subtitle, that doesn't mean it is a legitimate sequal. Rings of Power is not canon. Nor is any "Star Wars" product that Disney has made.

They could actually refer to that time when Saruman summoned some magic ultra lightning to crush the ice at the mountain the heroes tried to pass. But that would need explanation - who, why, how, when... Not like they could assemble 1-2 more short scenes that explain how, say, Sauron managed it to sabotage their path and set them back a few weeks. The screentime was already too packed with more important things, like walking.

He was wisely left out of the movies because he doesn’t really involve himself in mortal affairs, and as such, doesn’t move the story along in the way you need from a movie or show. Also, his right blue and yellow outfit would look out of place. Amazon just ignored the outfit and shoved him into their show doing out-of-character things, because they’ll take any opportunity to try to associate this dreck with Tolkien.

Some funny comments I have found on other videos - 1. Anya Taylor Joy looks more elf than every elf in The Rings of Power. 2. The actress who played Galadriel once described her character as older than moon. Someone commented "older than moon, but still act like spoiled teenager". 3. Peter Jackson hired actual elves to play elves. Amazon hired orcs to play elves and writers of the show. 4. Amazon is orcwashing the elves.

Here's a fun fact. At San Diego Comicon, Amazon premiered their Season two trailer in Hall H. This is a 5,000 seat venue. There were less than 400 people in the auditorium when the trailer premiered. Outside Hall H, they announced the start of the ROP event 3 or 4 times because no one was showing up. By the third announcement, the people mulling about outside of Hall H actually began laughing out loud. Anyone else a bit disappointed that Tom Bombadil wasn't played by James Cordon and didn't have a musical bit? What a missed opportunity.

The main reason why we hate Girl Bosses is actually pretty simple: They're not likable! The longer explanation is that Girl Bosses are a form of vindication and the need for praise for simply being a woman overpowering males. But it goes deeper than that, they want us to buy into it. They want us to believe that they're perfect and can do no wrong, that they are deserving to do anything they want to do because of how they feel. There's no humility or character development to help make them likable, because the way they are right now is the way how they're going to be till the end.

Brilliant. This video that is, unlike the billion dollar Rings of Dire. I just rewatched the Peter Jackson interview where he stressed they wanted to put Tolkein`s stamp on the movies, not their own, due to their respect and love for the source material, and that they were careful to find the right actors to play the roles. Turns out that worked rather well.

Exactly. In the chapter 'The Shibboleth of Fëanor' in The Peoples of Middle-earth, of Galadriel it states: From her earliest years she had a marvellous gift of insight into the minds of others, but judged them with mercy and understanding, and she withheld her good will from none save only Fëanor." RoP completely contradicts this and turns Galadriel into a pathologically narcissistic, arrogant woman who lacks any insight, understanding and mercy, and has serious anger and impulse control issues.

what is impressive is the huge lack of knowledge the writers have about the characters. I would forgive it if they at least wrote them accordingly with Peter Jackson's trilogy (They were perfectly written for movies that had to tell such a huge story lore wise.) Yet they simply ruin important characters that have a huge legacy. Galadriel is one of the eldest Elves in the whole story, instead she is written like a 20 yo college girl. Elrond who is from a great line of Elves and is known for his wisdom is written as a sceptic antagonistic dude that shouldn't have a thing to say to Galadriel. Sauron an angelic being of great might is simply killed by an orc in the most simplistic and pathetic way. Isildur who is known as a great warrior is reduced to some child that knows nothing of the world. It is frustrating. Never would Galadriel rush recklessly into anything, never would she ignore Elrond's concerns. Never would prime Sauron get outsmarted by an orc, nor would he ever need to be crowned/accepted by orcs. His might alone would grant him such an influence over the mind of these lesser beings. The show is written by people who are trying to transpose todays society into a magnificent story. Galadriel is the 20 yo woman, that needs to free herself from the shackles of the patriarchy and experiment the world by her rules. Elrond is the lesser knowledgeable male, that has no say in what is right or wrong. Sauron is the dumb and evil being that needs a powerful woman at his side to achieve his goal. It needs to stop...

Frankly, I couldn't care less about 'wokeism' or 'simping' or 'moody teenager' characters' or whatever. My biggest problem with RoP is how badly they butchered the 2nd Age timeline and combined a bunch of characters into the same time period, as well as putting so many things out of order than how or when they appeared, let alone bringing in the 3rd age events as well. I'm not even going to watch season 2. Season 1 was bad enough.

Is it just me or does the insistence on hiring as many foreign origin actors as possible make all these modern shows just look like a school play? I have literally no issue at all if Mica from Jamaica wants to play a medieval English Queen at the school play, even the town theatre. When someone is supposed to be a permanent visual piece of art and they completely undermine having realistic depictions of ethnic groups it makes what should be high art into basically a village pantomime that somebody recorded. House Of The Dragon managed to avoid the effect for the most part, though King's Landing having the demographics of London did break the suspension of disbelief quite often. These cinematic creations are supposed to be like windows into another world, but if you've got a group of medieval european knights and it's people from all over the world, the illusion is completely snapped and it's like watching a reenactment group on youtube or something.

Can we talk a little more about the part where they steal the “nameless things in the deep places of the world” bit? Like seriously they couldn’t help themselves. The “Nameless Things” briefly mentioned by Gandalf is one of the most fascinating things about LoTR and has inspired no end of speculation and discussion between fans. It did this BECAUSE there is simply no answer to be had. The mere suggestion that there are things down there bad enough to scare a Balrog, that these things terrify even GODDAMNED SAURON….was enough to give me chills when I was younger. The thing that makes it so interesting is that we have never had, and never needed an answer. It’s almost Lovecraftian in that sense. It is an unspeakable and unknowable terror we can only imagine, and pray we never experience. But for Rings of Power…..it’s a big slug worm thing that is easily dispatched by one Elf in order to make a joke.

I will just say it...the barrow wights shouldn't even exist at this point. In fact, their origin dates to the fall of Arnor, when the Witch king sent evil spirits from Angmar to inhabit the Barrow-downs. THAT is how they were created, so they shouldn't even be here, Arnor does not exist yet, the Witch king doesn't exist yet. And freaking Tom Bombadil lives in the Old Forest, which is very close to the Shire, not in Rhun for whiskey's sake. At this rate we might as well wake the Balrog sooner, so at least some of these knock off characters get killed off...

It's universally bad. Even a single scene - the fight at the end. Gal has five arrows. Fires four. Has five arrows when captured. It's a small thing, but emblematic. The showrunners either can't count or don't care to. Emptying her quiver could have pushed her to take more rash actions, thus leading to her capture. A single fight scene can use the three-act structure to give depth and meaning and stakes.

Can't wait for ep 5....Seriously if TCD review all of them like he did with Acolyte, it'll be a blast.

The only good thing about RoP is that it got me reading the books again, and I was watching Fellowship and Two Towers (Extended) yesterday for about the 50th time, and I noticed loads of tiny details in the movies that I'd never seen before, like little comments about Arnor. It was great to think that despite watching them so many times I still find little nuggets I'd skipped past before.

Hollywood took one of the most beloved books ever written and completely changed it to fit their precious narrative. Tolkien is rolling in his grave. I’m convinced they’re doing it on purpose. They want the youth to lose interest in any kind of story with a strong male hero who does brave things.

One of the wonders is that the heros are not strong and do not start brave.

They deliberately waited until his son Christopher Tolkien passed because he'd never let something like this show happen.

That is the truly sad part of all this. It’s an amazing story. If only they had just kept it the way it was written.

Their her-oes are not heroes either, they are villains who are treated as heroes by the plot which bends around them into a triple pretzel. In other words they are evil Mary-Sues.

When Guylandriel, discount Sam and Frodo yelled out: "free free Gondor", it was truely one of the greatest moments of our time! i'm litterally shaking.

Love the backsplaining about how Hobbits became less diverse. Lovely stuff. Makes so much sense. Thank you Amazon.
