Very cool to find someone of a similar background. I’m also bass fisherman and Murse in Louisiana. Picked this reel up today

Awesome! Nurses, especially now, need our time to relax, and fishing is a great way to do it! You don't regret getting that max pro!

I too have this combo.I got it off of Amazon.Nice feel and all.My problem is...no reverse button.Say you wind your lure too far up and need to let some line off.Do i have to open the bail or am i missng the button/switch somewhere?
@TheAverageFisherman992 жыл бұрын
No, you aren't missing anything. Frankly, even if it had a reverse, I'd never use it. I just pull line off by hand if I reel up too far.

What do you you use for gear box grease ? I think I'm using something to sticky or dense. This reel is on sale right now at Canadian Tire ($54 reg. $79) in Canada

I use the BPS red reel grease or the Abu Garcia reel grease.

Can you do a reel servicing video for this? I found this reel paired with a 7ft ML fenwick eagle for $70 and it’s a pretty sweet trout setup for small jerkbaits. I’d like to add some grease like you did initially but I can’t find the schematics for this reel and the combo didn’t come with any info.

Yep. It's pretty easy to do. I'll put together a video on it soon...thanks for the suggestion :)

I’m looking at the same thing on sportsman’s 6’ 6 M fast rod with this reel size 20 for $75 comes with 3 Berkeley jerk baits too!

Fellow murse (FNP)! I watched both reviews but which reel did you prefer, the Max Pro or the Shimano Symetre?
@TheAverageFisherman992 жыл бұрын
The Shimano Symetre spinning reel is clearly of higher quality than the Max Pro spinning reel. The max pro isn't as smooth or as refined feeling when using it. The Shimano is smooth and silent with no dragging or rough shots during its cycle. I also really like the thinner wire on the bail of the Symetre, but it's prone to being bent. I don't like the handle on it though, it's kind of T-shaped and just feels awkward at times. The Symetre ROD however, is pretty useless. The maxpro would be better suited as a lightweight, light duty finesse reel.

I just picked up the max pro combo at sams club for $63. What line are you using? I’m thinking about putting 8lb mono on mine.
@TheAverageFisherman992 жыл бұрын
I use 8lb berkley Trilene XL or Trilene Sensation. The Sensation is way more sensitive, but is stiffer too. The Trilene XL is limp, but less sensitive. Currently, mine has 8lb Sensation on it. All my spinning reels get 8lb mono or 10lb braid. Only my Revo S has braid though...everything else is mono.

I just got the 500 size and was really disappointed. The drag was not smooth at all and the spool was really wobbly at a very light drag setting. The entire reel felt like bad plastic .. maybe its not, but i didnt care for the feel of it). I know its only 50$, but even the paint job seemed shoddy. I do have two of the Revo X in the 40 and 20 sizes and i love em, so im not just hating on abu. I returned it a couple hrs later. Ordered an okuma avenger.. we'll see.

That's weird, mine does not wobble at all and the paint on it looks really nice, perhaps you just got a bad one or something, they are just mass produced in China after all lol

I just bought this reel and the box says the drag is 7lbs.
@TheAverageFisherman992 жыл бұрын
The 20, 30, and 40 sizes all have 14lbs of drag. The 10 size has 7lbs.
