The think radio is designed to disable all the buttons after a timeout period. This includes the Power button. The timeout is I think the same as the auto-dim time. Whether it's the power button or entering a frequency, you have to wake the radio from timeout first by pressing a button or tuning with the knob before anything works of you haven't recently pressed something. At least this is how my Eton Elite Executive version works.

Thanks for the review Gilles! I bought an older Grundig G3 Global Traveler. It has that same ports and same features. My G3 has fine tuning on a knob to the right. G3 volume is 2 buttons on the face. Nice to see design improvements over 10 years. My telescoping antenna mount is cracking from the housing so I keep it always tucked in. I did buy an AN200 antenna, like the one in your back ground, to start with. I plan to move to the MLA30 in a few months. Thanks for your recommendations on the live show last Friday. Your video’s have been very helpful in looking for a replacement to my Grundig G6. I like your 107.9 beacon. I live in Vermont just out side of Burlington and use 97.7 CHOM as a beacon and listen to 880 CJAD during the day regularly. It looks like you have a great classic radio collection. I like the Realistic Patrolman in the back ground.

Great review of the Eton Elite Executive (aka Grundig Executive Satelitt). This is the successor of the Eton G3 (aka Grundig G3) that I have. You mentionned that you have to push twice the power button of the Grundig Executive to work. I have quite the same problem with my Eton G3 (its predecesor) but with all the other buttons. It's very annoying if I want to enter a frequency. For me my Eton G3 became useless because of this problem. Besides, I'm glad the Grundig Executive has great sensitivity on SW. I saw your videos about this. And I like the new features they added on it compared with the Eton G3.

I had the same problem with my G3. Sometimes adjacent buttons would activate when pushing. Very annoying!

You have to push power button twice cause first push wakes up the screen feature any key is hot when radio is off.you can push any button to wake it up then power once and it will come on.but most to everyone will use the power button first and that takes two presses and seem's like its not right but it is for the design.

Thanks for the review. I came very close to buying this the other day. I opted for the PL-660. From this, and other people, I’m glad I did get the PL-660. ( The muting is a bit of a pain, but I’ve gotten used to it., with the XHData, and CCSKywaveSSB). It’s the MW. I was really hoping to see a great performance on MW. Oh-well. I’m glad I went with the venerable PL-660. 📻🙂

They're both very nice radios. I don't think you could have made a wrong choice, but as with any radio, it depends on how you're going to use it.

You're right, the power button isn't a glitch. Initially, when pressed, the power button wakes up the receiver and then if you want to actually power it up you can choose to do so by pressing it again. Thanks for the content lad.

The stitched case functions as a stand which is it's intended use as well as providing basic protection for travel. As far as zero beating this unit, it's no biggy on upper or lower ssb.

I’m am not finding anything speaking to me in the 100 -150 range ; thinking Eton executive elite but heard it’s very complicated. Ruled out infomate 837, XHData, CC Crane sky wave, and ETON E10, any other thoughts in that range??

I have the original release Eton Sattelite the chuffed tuning annoys me and the tuning dial broke over time but other then that it’s a great portable radio very sensitive receiver

Ever tried the Eton Field BT? I am thinking of importing one to the UK. It is quite expensive with import and duty, 150 dollars. I only want it for its FM capability, I have a Grundig G5 and Tecsun PL880, just sold my PL660.

Hello. Well i find this for this unit. I have had all 4 of this unit the only difference is as radio jay allen states. The only difference is 4 times they have changed the color of the case however they wont do a damn thing about the sync d. Which is crap but they wont do anything about it . go figure. Great video Gilles. I have this radio as well. I completely agree with your opinions on the Executive Satellit. I am a big fan of synchronous detection. I have a Sony ICF-2010 and ICF-SW7600GR. I think Sony has sync lock mastered. The sync lock on the Executive Satellit was unpleasant. Having said all of this, the Executive Satellit is a gorgeous radio and it works great on a long wire. But, PLEASE, PLEASE Eton, drop the Grundig branding. This is not your daddy's Grundig!

Jeff Barrett The current model does not carry the Grundig name. I’m guessing the licensing agreement has expired, as no current Eton radio carries the Grundig name. As you’ve implied, Grundig itself (which is now little more than a brand) hasn’t produced a radio in several years. All these more recent models carrying the Grundig name are Eton designs. The Grundig name era does now finally seem to be over...at least for now. Eton seems ready and willing to stand on their own name. Who knows if that will stand or if sentimentality and nostalgia will cause them or somebody else to want to go back and try to do another license agreement.

Jeff Barrett --- Eton is just an importer and rebrander of radios on the US. Grundig is a recognised name in Europe. Sure, Grundig was bought out by Philips and then sold on to a Turkish company, but they white goods are still recognised in Europe.

Liofa Eton was more than a rebrander / importer. They were known for their own designs following the demise of the Grundig world radio business. I realize things change. If these days they are merely rebranding, who is designing and building their current products?

Do you see any up coming shortage of Chinese made radios? Is Sangean made in Taiwan? I recently bought a Tecsun R9700DX, really like it. But also have a 25 year old Sangean 909 for SSB etc. But I'm always open to buy another radio.

Flat sound. Thought if it were a Grundig derivative, there would be a better balance of frequencies with a hint of Bass
