Review of the Kriega R20 backpack 20 litre storage

Do i go BIG or SMALL?????
Recently purchased the R20. Wanted something not too big as have additional storage with the motorbike.

Looks like its going to be a good size.
BUT if you have no other way to carry your stuff then go BIGGER!!!

I bought an R20 for several long runs across Australia, west to east and return and bottom of WA up to Northernn Territory via the Gibb River road. On the west/east run and return the temp reached 47C in the centre and the hydra pack (3L) proved its worth as other riders were dehydrating and pulling into motel accommodation (scarce out there) as I continued to motor on. The pack is indeed comfortable and with the waist strap stays in place where it belongs. With the drybag sitting on the seat I can rest the back pack on top so feel no weight at all. Ideal. Last day on the road was 1700 km, the pack caused me no grief what-so-ever, only my sore butt did !!

No problem. I would add that IF there is any doubt whether the 20 litres is big enough for you(it is for what i use it for) and you are going to use it as a regular 3-4 day trip away kind of thing, then I would go for the 25 litre. I can survive on x1 extra set of underpants and x1 t-shirt. Others can't ! lol.

I've had mine for about 12 years, still works fine and not too manky. For commuting it swallows up laptop and essentials. On longer trips if I pack it full I simply strap it to the pillion seat, same as as US 20. Great bag. I've also never had a problem with things getting wet inside. Only a tiny amount of 'moisture' has ever got in.

Had mine since 2006,been great,only gripe ,wish it was more waterproof, however i always have a couple of carriers inside as a precaution.

Really good video with good information compared to others. Just a question do you think you could use this bag with a tail bag or would it ride too low on your back and hit the tail bag.

Good question . I didn’t in all honesty think about that . I guess if your bike has a forward lean, ie sports bike , naked , it won’t be a problem . Myself on my Africa Twin being sat upright may possibly touch a bag on the backseat but size would be the determining factor I guess .

Great review, how have you found it in heavy rain as it's not claimed to be waterproof like the R30?

How critical is the waist strap? Is the pack unstable or blow around without using the waist strap?
