With the last Asterix live action movie, I will admit that it is funny, but there are some of the running gags that i really hated, like Asterix trying to get a girlfriend, and the really weird jokes about questioning Asterix and Obelix's relationship. Like... "Oh man, two guys who're really good friends and who're super comfortable in their masculinity and who're super loyal to each other... THEY MOST BE GAY LOL!" that got really cringey

I agree, the humour is hit-and-miss in the last film. Those parts you mentioned were admittedly not very funny at all. The Vikings were probably the funniest part: they were great :)

I only saw it a few days ago for the first time. I'm a spanish-speaker and don't know a single word of French, so I saw it in spanish... and the dubbers apparently speak less French than I do because the dub SUCKED. For starters, "Gaul" was minstranslated as "Whales". Yes, it's THAT badly dubbed. They couldn't even get the country right. All that aside, the movie was a weird mix of 2 comics we already saw turned into animated films, and the plots don't mix well at all. Both animated movies are SO MUCH better.

15:34 "This is a movie. It's not your house." This is such a great statement for what many filmmakers forget when directing a comedy.

I get what you're saying about Asterix at the Olympics (I was pretty confused when I first saw it as a child), but I still have a lot of nostalgia towards it, because it was the first live action Asterix film I saw. However, no matter our opinions towards this film in particular, we can still agree, that the Chinese adaptation is going to suck even harder... Nice video overall! From an inner Gaul from Denmark

Asterix and Obelix- Mission Cleopatra was my first Asterix movie ever to watch, and I loved it. Then I watched Asterix And The 12 Tasks. When I found Asterix and Obelix Takes On Ceasar in a grocery shop, I just had to have it. I had such ahuge crush on Christian Clavier as a child. And OH, TEUTATES!! It's my favorite Asterix movie by far. Closely followed by the movie where Mirakulix, turned insane.

The best Asterix Movie will always be asterix and the twelve tasks. It captures the art form the books perfectly, the va performances are incredible, and its legit funny in a way none of the silly live action ever were, incredibly smart jokes. It really encapsulates what the comic was about.

I'm confused. When talking about mission cleopatre you say it steals from the comics. When talking about the Olympic games you say it didn't follow the comics enough. What would make you happy?

A good movie that follows the comics :)

I kind of enjoyed the first one when it came out. It was a bit weird, but had its charm. Then the second one came out and the Polish version was SO GOOD with adapting all the references for the viewers, and really funny in general, that it is still, to this day, my favourite... Of the live action ones, cause nothing can top the original animations up to and including "Asterix kontra Cezar".
@jshadowhunter5 жыл бұрын
1st Asterix movie is still my favorite or all, still have the original DVD.
@9Maciej3 жыл бұрын
No offence, but maybe the reason why the second movie stills so much from Cleopatra movie is because they both are based on the same story from Asterix comic? Unless the comic was a lot different in portraying those events.

This is really surreal to see French classics such as Astérix being talked about outside of France. The second can be cult only if you are French i feel, there is a lots of play on words that is half of the humor, pop culture refs are like 30%. But this review was pretty on point. The first one is still entertaining even to this day

i would go a little easier on Poelvoorde because he was actually forbidden to improvise out of the script he was given (which is his strongest point in most movies i enjoyed him in) and he hated working on this movie so much he went depressed and drunk for quite a few years after it. Plus while shooting he didn't know Brutus was to be the center focus of the movie.
@DisJunkTV4 жыл бұрын
MrCommedien Interesting. I didn’t know that. I can definitely understand being depressed by that script and having this much pressure. I have nothing against Poelvoorde, he can be pretty good, his character was just way too present in this movie. Not really his fault I’m sure.

As a kid I was very confused about Caesar in the Cleopatra movie. Why was he so young? :P He was NOTHING like the Caesar from the comics or even the first live action movie, for that matter! Everything in the Cleopatra movie just felt... cheaper. I'd say the first movie is still genuinely good. Kinda feel like re-watching it right now, to be honest! :D
@DisJunkTV4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I still wish Alain Chabat had played another, more appropriate character. He was funny but he is no Caesar lol
@brajeshsingh23913 жыл бұрын
in a sense the reviewer is right. some times the style over powers the movie but the major disappointment came in the end. just when we thought it was going really come with a solid final surprise it becomes very ordinary and uneventful. The kung fu fight scene at the end is really forced and conclusion is very contrived. They needed some drama at the end. Yes there are jokes and references to Hollywood movies but those are not done badly. As far Ceasar is concerned well he had a limited role. I did not think he did too badly. He played his part. In fact the cast was quite good. And it elevates the movie several notches.
@Alejandroigarabide2 жыл бұрын
My personal theory is that he, as director, casted himself as Caesar just to make out with Monica Belucci.

In Hungary I think the second movie is loved immensly mostly because the dubbing is all in rhymes and it's actually ingenius the way they managed to do it :D every single line ended up being hilarious and memorably bacuse of the wordplays and rhymes ^^

I loved the britian movie (sorry I don't remember the title in english because I've only ever seen it in German) andI adored Baer. Maybe I was having a little crush on him but he was super cool. Nothing will ever change my mind. Btw the German title is "Im Auftrag Ihrer Majestät" wich roughly translates to: "by orders of her majesty"

How anyonec an think the Britain movie is better than Mission Cleopatra is beyond me. Funny parts... but that's it. But great video overall. I love the two first movies!
@DisJunkTV2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't necessarily think the Britain movie is better than Mission Cleopatra, especially since it looks a lot cheaper, the humour is just more fitting with the vibe of the comics in my opinion. Christian Clavier is a WAY better Asterix, that's for sure.

Recently, a new live-action Astérix Movie has been released in cinemas: The Middle Kingdom, and... It's not very good and it fails in the same way that the previous two failed: Follow the Mission: Cleopatra formula with an almost parodic humor I miss a tone similar to the first live-action (it's my favorite of the 5), but it seems that I won't find that in live-action, but in animation What a pity

Since I gotten into Asterix this month, I do plan on getting some of the DVDS (if Amazon has any of them in English because I suck at French, horribly) I do also plan on finding and watching some of the live action movies, especially the first one!

@keskonriks7102 жыл бұрын
I absolutly love Asterix! I've read all the comics. I particularly like Asterix als Gladiator, though that might be due to nostalgia as it was the first one I ever read. Of the films, I think I've seen the first one once, but that must've been a long time ago, because I remember almost nothing about it. probably should rewatch it. Haven't seen the Cleopatra one yet. might check it out. Agree about the Olympic games, that one was terrible. Did you know there is a Asterix & Oberlix video game series called Asterix & Obelix XXL? Maybe you could make a review about at some point? That'd be really cool!

Thumbs up!

I'd say the Asterix at the Olympic Games video game was actually better than the movie. It's somewhat a sequel to the XXL games but it also features some live-action characters and Gexafix is a flat comic book version due to some trans-dimensional shenanigans.
@DisJunkTV4 жыл бұрын
I agree! I've been playing that game lately, it's very fun.
