IMPORTANT NOTE! OXI has *substantially* updated OXI ONE since this video was made - the layout has changed slightly, but more importantly, there are many, many new features. I hope to cover them at some point and if I do I'll pin a link here instead of this comment. Meanwhile, this video is a good intro guide but please check out the company's site and manual for all the new features.

@@loopop yea ofc, i am not suggesintg or saying its realistic with products that get firmware updates in general. however i'm talking about this specific case, when talking about a pre-done kick starter type product moving from pre funding to achieveing a certain level of maturity, not your standard product that gets constant updates. its not exactly the same thing. my point is for kickstarter type things and for this product in particular, a shorter update video or segment, even if just added to a vid of new product review of theirs, like the teased eurorack module (as you've done before with other things) might make sense

This thing has huge potential, and I'm pretty impressed by what functionality they've managed to get into such a small package. IMO, much more interesting than pretty much all the recent hardware sequencers we've seen lately. With the addition of some audio inputs, a MicroSD card slot, and recording functionality, this could almost entirely replace my DAW.

Re. comparison with the Deluge: also from what I see here you can set a different time division per track (per "sequencer" in the Oxi lingo), so have a different tempo per track, which is great for polyrhythmic stuff (not a lot of seqs have that. Octatrack yes, but besides?) You can't do that on the Deluge sadly, it's tied with multichannel audio over usb as my #1 feature request ^^. (Though on the Deluge there's a way you can hack around if you have an external clock and a track set to "Sync Scaling", but that's limited and not as powerful as just being able to have a different tempo per track. I never understood that "Sync Scaling" feature...).

@@loopop I agree that SEQ is simple to use, but constructing songs is exasperating. Polyend also seem to have called a halt to updating the firmware. I doubt that will ever be the case with the Oxi One, although its complexity is in danger of being off putting. I'm looking for a sequencer under 1k. I'm on the fence, but so far the Pyramid is catching my eye. I also plan on getting a NDLR when they get back in stock. I would love a Hapax, but they're in very short demand due to the world and governments like the U.S. being goofed, and being more worried about Putin than our own country, but I digress. I'm trying to find the right sequencer. I've looked at quite a few, and the Pyramid seems to be sticking out. I already own a BeatStep Pro, but I want something that's more advanced, but still user friendly, and most of all fun to use. So far I checked out the Polyend Seq, Torso T-1, Engine, and a few others. The OXI ONE is interesting too. It's definitely a possible choice, but it cost more than the Pyramid, and I'm not sure if it's really worth it. Any advice will be appreciated. I plan on getting something next week. I'm going to be using a midi/usb router, multiple digital/analog synths, MPC Live 2, BeatStep Pro, Launchkey 49, and Ableton Live 11/FL Studio. Thanks in advance!

Maybe so, but think about what you get for your money with the Keystep Pro. An amazing sequencer, 4 tracks, a ton of features and a 3 octave keyboard with pitch and mod. It’s not the best at anything but Arturia gives you so much bang for the buck.

Hi there! As always, nice and complete review! Thanks! But, from your point of view, is this device worth it compare (I know you mentionned it) the Arturia Keystep Pro + Blokas Midihub for generative music? Price side, it's quite the same, but, what about the possibilities? (I fear you make buy another piece of gear though!!!) Thanks again :-)

My pleasure - the best comparison to KeyStepPro beyond what I said in this video is to watch my full length review of KSP. MIDIhub is awesome but you have to program everything, so there's very little hands on control (unless you start mapping CCs and get an external controller)

@loopop - thanks for another great review. Can you compare the learning curve of this product vs say, a Digitakt? I usually come away from your videos with a clear sense of how the product works, but not this time.
@loopop
@loopop 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Digitakt is way harder to learn if it's your first Elektron Instrument, and way easier if you're familiar with the workflow from other Elektron gear because everything is in the "right place" according to their way of working. This is just a bit unrefined and not consistent.

Thanks for another great review. Is retriggering the same as ratcheting? The latter generally take one note and subdivides it. I think the former just splits the note into divisions but I'm not sure if it actually subdivides it in musical time divisions. Can someone clarify?
