Man, I clicked on this and saw 1:56 as the video length and thought this was going to just be another garbage channel with stock images and an AI voice reading the specs off a chart but this turned out to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. Straight to it performance comparison with an easy to understand graph and didn't need to watch 15 extra minutes of bedtime stories or sponsor blocks to get to the point. Well done

Best videos man. Thanks so much for doing what you do and not chasing the algorithm. It's sad that you don't get as many viewers as other big channels, when your concise and clear content is what others should strive for. Was looking at the ID A720, are you considering benchmarking that one soon?

Can you by any chance put the Thermalright Frost Commander 140 against the Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 V3 when you get the chance? Those are two coolers I've been having my eyes on, but they both seem really close to each other in performance from first glance.

I have read through some comments and understand you recommended the SE. And im torn between the two. I was able to locate static pressure ratings of each and wondered if it would create that much of a difference? EVO 2.89 static pressure SE 1.53 static pressure This is the only major difference I have been able to locate really and wondered how much importance should this hold in the decision? I appreciate any help you could provide especially on what a good static pressure even is. Thank you!

The percentage fan speed i think is semi optimal, since the evo runs 650 rpm faster. ofc it gets louder with similar fans on 60%, since it runs 390 rpm faster. I think i still get the evo for the V2 bearings and the higher cooling on max rpm. I like your quick comparisions though, it helped me compare all the different Phantom spirit 120 versions and them with other options. Edit: also not seeing the top of the chart is a little weird for top thermals.

yeah exactly, comparing % rpm noise when one fan has much higher maximum than the other, ofcourse its going to be louder but the EVO is much quieter on the same RPM

Thanks, this and hardware canucks video helped me make the best decision on a cooler for 7800x3d. Getting the EVO because 7800x3d uses lower wattage so it will be a bit quieter.

so the EVO is a couple degrees cooler sometimes but louder almost all the time?
@JonnyFlash80
@JonnyFlash80 3 ай бұрын
The fans on the EVO have a significantly higher max speed. You can set a fan curve to only go to 80% speed to reduce noise while getting only marginally less cooling performance. The fans on the evo have a revised bearing design, higher static pressure and airflow (possibly because they spin faster).

@@JonnyFlash80so is it better to get the evo? I like the asthetic of the evo better, but if it's that much louder than it doesn't seem to be worth it. In this video temps are pretty much the same above 60% fan speed for both coolers, but evo is on avg 3-5 dBa louder, I wonder if that would be noticeable.

I would expect it wouldn’t, but you’re not going to find a cooler that will perform much better than the phantom spirit so it should be a safe bet regardless.

EVO has 2150 rpm maximum as SE only 1500 so 60% for EVO (1290rpm) is much more than 60% for SE (900rpm), on same RPMs, EVO is much quieter

@clickbait0190
@clickbait0190 Ай бұрын
You shouldn't compare fan noise by using % of max speed. A fan at 2150 RPM is obviously louder than another at 1500 RPM, as long as both have similar diameters and are decently designed. Instead, you should compare both noise and performance at raw RPM and max speed. This way the results are automatically presented in a “noise to performance ratio”, which represents real-world usage.

I think the second set of charts is more relevant to what you’re looking for, with performance normalized by sound.

Please use actual RPM values to compare instead of % of max speed. Because otherwise when one fan works at 700RPM and the other is at like 800RPM making the whole test kinda pointless.
@pc_analytics

Thanks for your suggestion. However, most bios control on a % basis, which makes the charts more relevant to the users experience. The normalized by sound chart may be more of a focus for you given your concern.
@cryspin7
@cryspin7 3 ай бұрын
@@pc_analytics I don't think it's more relevant to users experience. Sure in the bios you have to work with percentages but the end result is still RPM. The problem is that some fans top up at 1500 RPM and some at 3000 RPM. Your first graph it not normalized to anything that can be easily compared and in result not very useful. If you were to normalize to RPM insted of % you would have all the information needed on one graph. No need to normalize by sound. You can use software called FanControl without having to go into bios. You could start at like 500RPM and go up in 200 increments.
@pc_analytics
@pc_analytics 3 ай бұрын
@@cryspin7I agree that some may find value in it. However, some of my first videos had it and I lost too much engagement after the % results were shown and while I was showing the RPM values. With that in mind, I may add this as an enhancement to the site but not in the videos. However, feel free to note it as a suggestion on my discord server in the respective channel!
