@WIImotionmasher one alternative is you could turn off mobile data for internet (phone accepts incoming calls only) and just connect to the display using Wi-Fi...I think he mentioned that navigation will still work as long as you have maps downloaded (offline Google Maps doesn't require cellular data, only GPS needs to be turned on)...so the phone and display are both not connected to the internet at this point. That said, the general consensus seems to lean on the side of "it's fine" for CarPlay devices. Something I read earlier: "Yeah. CarPlay just displays information from your phone. Think of it like a separate computer monitor for a laptop. Nothing is saved in the monitor. So while the device can conceivably see what you are doing on your phone, it's highly unlikely it has any way of getting that information anywhere. CarPlay is a variant of AirPlay screen mirroring. The device is shuttling the shared screen to your unit over wifi. But they'd have to do optical-character recognition or some other kind of analysis to actually know what you are doing. They can't merely get a string of text, for example..."

This seems like great value for money. The performance will be much better compared to cheap Android head units as it is basically running off our phone. Also very minimal qiring required to work with existing system.

Can you please share the compatible reverse cameras for Plimpton L1! I bought L1 2024 model in India and it doesn't seem to be getting camera input from 5 pin 2.5mm AV in. Would be really helpful if you can test and suggest a compatible camera for this! Thanks in advance, Sukumar

I have one of these, and for some reason, the connection for wireless Android Auto is really flaky. Sometimes it works right away, other times it takes repeated rebooting, disconnecting bluetooth connection, etc, to finally get it to work. If I'm just going on a short drive, it might not actually work before I arrive. Really strange. When it works, it's great, but often times I can't get it to connect.

I want to try one of these (there are many), specifically the ones with a dash cam built in. But like... I don't trust connecting my phone to them (you have to to get a data connection). They're all completely unknown un-popular brands. I feel like they're just stealing my phones photos and data.
