The A-Trak Signature Edition of the RANE SEVENTY mixer brings a couple new features to the table… the most obvious of which is the striking new metallic silver finish. It’s not just a flat silver, but it has a bit of a shimmer that looks really classy when the light hits it.

In combination with the stunning finish, the new mixer sports aluminum-capped knobs, which aren’t super heavy, but have a good grip and weight that gives it a feeling of quality. These combine to give it a bit of the aesthetic of a classic rotary mixer, while giving you the functionality of a modern scratch mixer… including the same delightful Mag Four faders that come with the standard SEVENTY.
One thing that is different about this version vs. the standard mixer is the adjustment of sound curve and frequency response. According to RANE, they've added a "Signature A-Trak sound curve with custom low-end frequency response and industry leading signal-to-noise ratio of 114dB."
Finally, they added a new feature called "Fader FX", which turns your faders into FX controllers which you can use for your own creative expression. Probably the coolest way to use it is by picking one of its four different kinds of tone generators, setting the key and scale, and jamming out with the channel faders like you're playing an instrument. This is reminiscent of MIDI solutions of times past, but is built into the hardware.

Hey guys, this is one of the best if not THE best review of this piece, really love the audio examples / scratching, very useful! I know you are busy but would love to see the follow-up regarding the sound curve, you didn‘t manage to do that? I know you are busy with a lot of stuff, but the sound curve or whatever they did is really what it‘s all about with this mixer for me: I love the (transient) detail in the lowend, also you can literally mix without eq, as the two songs mix way easier with those slightly dipped lowmids, both baselines can be distinguished and don’t get mushy, it‘s so forgiving and crispy at the same time. Any chance to see that follow up or did you scrap it?

Yeah but only with the basic functions all DVS mixers will work with vinyl and no laptop but you won't get the FX and pads obviously...I would say if you intend it for that maybe look at something else as you won't be getting anything extra from it and the meat of this mixer is definitely when using software

There's no real 'better', it's a lot of personal preference. Rane and Pioneer have different sounds and feels. The S11 is closest to the 72 mk2 versus the 70 due to size and screen. The 70 is closest to the S7. This is still a 70, just a special edition with a few changes. I hope the faderfx make it to the regular 70 and 72 in a future update.

I've touched both 70 and 72, and at the end bought s11.The main problem for me was fx section on both mixers. On 70 i didn't understand why they put two separate depth knobs, but only one joystick for changing length, for me it's illogic and uncomfortable. On 72 the whole fx section is complicated and not intuitive. On s9 and s11 it's simple, intuitive and easy to use from first touch. And overall, yes Rane feels more solid, quality of materials is better than on Pioneer, but layout and ease of use are more important for me.
